Adam I just finished the design for my knife and i have begun forging it. I was wondering if I could send you one and you could do a review of it. Thanks Martin
hey Adam, i have all ready done that to my beaker BK2 and it work freaking awesome!!! I also odered micarda scales that i wil put a blow drill hole on it as well.
You should review the down under knives the outback, I am interested in purchasing it as a bushcraft knife. And would be interested to know if it is worth my time.
Hate to be a dick about this, but you're at least the third person (including Dave Canterbury) I've heard pronounce "ferrocerium" as "ferocium." It is called ferrocerium because it is an alloy composed mainly of iron and cerium (also, lanthanum, praseodymium, neodymium, magnesium.) Anyway, otherwise great video, keep up the good work.
I like the concept, but wouldn't a vice and small round file work better? Make a nice 1/4 moon groove for better rod control and less coating removal?
Adam, Aircraft remover will work MUCH better. Plus you do not take away any metal or convex the edge. it can be applied easily and with more control than grinding the finish away. ;)
I thought about trying to get fancy and machining a semi circular notch in the back of mine sort of like what you see on the Bear Grylls knife, Adam, but I bet it would be a lot tougher than what you're suggesting! Cool.
Just wondering...what if you filed or ground it the otehr direction Adam? That way there would be a small edge hanging over the spine as the sanding/grinding removed material....
I did this exact thing to the knife,, last week. Great minds think alike! Another thing I did was fill the handle with waxed jute cord and attach an Allen key.
Don't ever use the edge to strike a ferro rod!! The extremely high temperature will ruin the heat treatment of that section of the blade, and even if you resharpen it afterwards, it will dull more quickly than before.
Adam, Plan B. As in a Becker Remora. BK-13. Took me around 1 min to modify the spin for use with a ferro rod. Saves you compromising your big knife's coating.
I never heard of a "work sharp", I need to look into those. Although I HATE the idea of using power tools to sharpen a knife this looks like it could be used for other things.
@JCSoftWash I actually bought one earlier this week and it works great. Personally though, I won't use it every time I want to "sharpen" my blades. After a good edge is put down all a knife usually needs is honing, not sharpening.

@trexbattle depends on how the recipient plans on using the knife, and if you trust them as a responsible individual.

I had my Tops Xcest profiled like that. I took it to a gentleman that sharpens knives and he ran it on his belt sander. It works great!

Looks like a plus for the BG knife that has this built in from the factory. I'll have to bite this for my other blades

BTW, what was that sander you used, that was pretty cool
