@Puffpuffmagic420 you are fucking retarded. why the fuck would you hot mop torch on? or if your talking about tar and gravel torch on is a 1 billion percent more efficient roof than T&G and doesn't break down even close to to as fast as T&G does when exposed to the elements. i think you need to choose a different trade.
there is no right or wrong way of applying torch on memebranes as long as
1 you totoally seal the roof and make it water tight stop leaks all that jazz and
2 you dont burn the shit out of the membrane because even though you have sealed it if you burn it too much you will take away the life and resistance off the membrane
looks like the job is going very smooth but is he a roofer why is he torching against the propane hose, and why he is not using safety tools like wearing leather gloves, torching against the red propane cylinders next to him. I think he is learning, and wearing a t- shirt when torching wow he needs to learn safety.
@0790rob u don't know how to spell... definately a good judge his bleed out is a little excessive but the way your criticizing him your probably one of those fuckin guys who doesn't even burn the poly off then roll
@napoleonthebassmasta this is my own video, with this particular felt that is the optimin bleed size to ensure the bleed is the same size the lenght of the roll as you can see.... theres no fat and narrow bleed, and no stopping, its constant!!!
we use rolling bars to weight the roll on the move, you can achieve a nice even bleed twice as fast as that, as the roll gets lighter you will have to burn through it to get the last bit of bleed out,,
A nice and efficient job. As for the bleeding, I prefer a little too much bleeding than a lack of adhesion leading to fish-mouth. The most important being water thighness .
yes ok not bad but i agree roll is too tight and too much bleed out on joint you are burning the shit out of it no need to my advice melt joints on underlay and the warm lap before the next roll it will look much neater ive been doing it 20 years but its not bad if your not a felter
@abby2ela HE IS NOT SLOW IS JUST DOING IT RIGHT, AS YOU CAN SEE IS A VERY FLAT ROOF, WHEN YOU TORCH A LOW SLOPE ROOF YOU HAVE TO MAKE SURE THAT YOUR SEAMS AND OVERLAPS ARE SEALED..
@lauraychayanne Thanks for the advice about seam and lap sealing, but i have torched thousands of squares on the north Oregon coast where it rains more than not. As I said before overall nice application, but technique is lacking.
excellent workmanship, great technique. my job end results looked like 'insane asylum inmates' did it compared to yours. what's the black 'sprayed on looking' stuff along the edge, -before- your roll-roofing hits it? some sort of spray-on asphalt primer or something?
the roll has been re-rolled...to perfection! it would weld together if it wasnt....it has 2 be that tight 2 keep the weight in it right until the end of the roll AND elimating any chance of it goin off line with the continuous bleed from the side....but u should know that pete.......
The roll is too tightly rolled, so all the heat conducts toward the roll's core instead of staying on the working surface. If this technique is continued, this roofer will probably suffer welded rolls. If you unrolled your material and then loosely rerolled, you could torch down more than 4x faster, avoid misdirected rolls, and have time to pattern around obstacles.
@petedude2lu3 your supposed to have the roll rolled tight numb nuts thats how the bleed out gets fed out on the lap... fucking rookies! thats good bleed out bud but your going way to slow turn the heat up and get that puddle working for ya
I care about QUALITY WORK , I don't care about speed or trying to finish a job as soon possible I always check that everything is perfectly sealed no matter how long it takes. Money comes by itself .
@Xeidasx well got my house paid since 2004 ,2 work trucks,2 utility trailers, tar kettle machine, seamles gutters machine and dump trailer are already paid and bills been paid, I think you right.
@petedude2lu3 excellent job so far the best torch down applcation, roll too tight or too loose doesn't make any diffence , the difference is the torching and make sure the bleading is 1/4" , especially on roofs with low slope .
I understand you are doing quality work . EXCELLENT WORK!!
Everybody else stop talking about "I can do it faster" . CAN YOU DO IT BETTER?
@ED000111 Its beacause hes burning too much of the poly off. hes doing it improperly. and as for SIZEDOCTOR,, it is overlapped retard look at the black poly end lap that hes torching to lol
Torch down is a system of the past. Duro-last is energy efficient and has a 15 year waranty. its not near as cheap, but you get what you pay for. Besides anybody can call themselves an installer and buy this and put it on, only qualified duro-last installers can buy DL.
the material looks nice finished. you should have had a man throwing granules on the bleed out. i personally think your getting the roll to hot and its taking way to long with that cane. seams should be bled and rolled after the roll has had 70% of the non overlapped side burnt to the roof . is this a 2 ply system? your work looks nice and im not tryin to knock you just being honest
yes hardhick...a base sheet waz used on dis particular job,the old roof wasnt in great condition! I actually only put dis video up because i was amazed at the bad standard of workmanship, and very suprised how people can get away with it,we certainly wud not get away with it ireland!!
typical roofer mentality in the above comments. Michael, you did a good job on that roll. kept your line straight, just the right amount of bleed. no scarring that i could see. quick question though; did you do a torchdown base as well, it looks like that's what you got going on there. i like torchdown, but hate that its just one ply.
tanx snupsas...at least sum1 has an understanding of wotz goin on in dis video!! dis roof is started at the lowest point running 2 the highest point....u cannot run it in the opposite direction coz the water wud get caught at every lap across the whole roof!!! dis way water can flow freely 2 the soul piece....
well for me itwas perfect including perfect line until isow one thing and you cant have any escuses.Thenyou are dooing flat roofs all the time you mus start from the lowest point becouse of you joints betwen rouls
thats not a mess ya knob! its supposed to have bleed out ya hack now move on... labourer go pick up that garbage over there!!! ohhh yea.... YOUR FIRED!

Torch should not be applied onto flat roofs. They should be hot mopped. Faster and reliable.

Have a look at "Rapid Drip Formers" they are great and do the same thing but are pre formed with a green mineral finish.
It really is a quick method of getting the perfect drip edge. The video is on here under rapid drip former.

try using a rolling bar..

very slow, too much heat on roll burns modified off. You get a tighter roof walking rolls in. Pretty nice app overall. Need to work on technique.

@thompson411 he has to do it slowly to be sure that the new material is welded with the base to make sure it will be one solid roof .
On low slope roofs you have to make sure that bleading is expose to avoid leaks.
He's not burning to much every single part of roll is perfectly glued to base.
