Yes world wind is free, you can get it from worldwindcentral dot com, it is similare to Google Earth but aimed more at science and education. Google Earth has more high res imagery outside of the US, but with the microsoft virtual earth plugin World Wind shows many more countries in high resolution.

i've been waiting to see when we would have a google earth plugin or a new program that allows the ingestion and mapping of real-time satellite imagery to be applied to the globe..i.e. water vapor spectrum for weather forecasting.
- From what I remember of an old post on the WW forums, the C# + DirectX decision was made because for the original WW project to get approved and funded at all by NASA it had to be done by a single developer in a very short amount of time, and C# + DirectX was the only way to do that.
- Most of the images in WW are actually from the US Geological Survey, who releases all their images and maps for free. If you want better picture of your country then ask your government to make their pictures and maps (they almost definitely have them) available for free like the US and a few other places do.
- Google Earth and World Wind server different purposes. Google can afford to pay millions and millions of dollars for satellite pictures to make sure that lots of people can see their houses. World Wind uses only imagery that is public domain, but if you have paid for your own imagery you can easily view it in WW.

I don't feel its that special. If you would like to see something really interesting, look up a program called "orbiter" Its a simulator that allows controlled space flight to anywhere in the SS. Very realistic too and uses real orbital physics

First off, to you "fake"rs, NASA's first versions of World Wind were released in the summer of 2004. Now, long has Google Earth been around? And if it wasn't for NASA's LandSat 7 and SRTM data, Google Earth couldn't exist. And why would Google's terrain be any better if it's from the same data set?
Google Earth is for looking at way more detailed terrain, seeing weather in the works, seeing images of fires and such, and actually understanding the earth a little bit more then seeing your house. Also, you are all stupid, you can see your house in many places in the US using WW, outside of the US high res sattelite images cost money, which NASA can't do. If you live in the US you should be able to atleast see your city, if not your house.
Google Earth sucks. The 3d models in WW are WAY WAY WAY WAY better and more detailed, WW will have REAL TIME FUCKING WEATHER, it can show more then just your house.

By the same logic, by posting this on the Internet, which you pay for, you're using money that could've been spent on fighting hunger. Yes, we should help the problem, but in what way and how much are other questions. But be careful with your arguments..

We here in Europe integrate poorer countries to develop them...me as a German I went to live in Europe's poorest country:Portugal...and step by step we get things done...we could develop every part of the world with our actual know-how!

It isn't only teh "theoretical" max capaicty of carry, it is religious tabus and local customs and beliefs.
Of Course the largest church, the Catholics, do not believe in population control, since MORE catholics is a bigger potential for dominations, (domination- holding the place of God...)

I don't feel its that special. If you would like to see something really interesting, look up a program called "orbiter" Its a simulator that allows controlled space flight to anywhere in the SS. Very realistic too and uses real orbital physics

First off, to you "fake"rs, NASA's first versions of World Wind were released in the summer of 2004. Now, long has Google Earth been around? And if it wasn't for NASA's LandSat 7 and SRTM data, Google Earth couldn't exist. And why would Google's terrain be any better if it's from the same data set?

Google Earth is for looking at way more detailed terrain, seeing weather in the works, seeing images of fires and such, and actually understanding the earth a little bit more then seeing your house. Also, you are all stupid, you can see your house in many places in the US using WW, outside of the US high res sattelite images cost money, which NASA can't do. If you live in the US you should be able to atleast see your city, if not your house.

Google Earth sucks. The 3d models in WW are WAY WAY WAY WAY better and more detailed, WW will have REAL TIME FUCKING WEATHER, it can show more then just your house.

Google earth is faster than World Wind, but WW has better detail. The GUI on GE is better than WW as well.
They are two different programs using the same technology. I have both. I would suggest That everyone get both. They are both free:)
