The reason why muslim Islamic scholars don't convert to another religion is because apostasy (converting to another religion) is prohibited in Islam and the penalty for apostasy under sharia Islam is death. Contrary to your claim, there have been and are many ex-Muslims who have converted and the reason for doing do is because they actually understand it thoroughly.

In Islam, you can be forgiven for all your sins in an instance if you wholeheartedly repent. Every chapter of Quran starts with 'In the name of Allah , the beneficent, the merciful'. Enough Said!
