This is where I learned to paraglide too, thanks to the late Dixon White. I saw this video and instantly thought of him. A father and son sharing this experience together is what he was all about. I miss him. The greatest athlete I've ever seen. Made the dream of free flight a reality. Thanks for posting this.
Thx zman... this was one of the most special moments of my life...sharing it with my son, who just turned 15 at the time. He earned his P2 rating before he learned to drive! A good day here canNOT be put into words. I really wish that I had the chance to know Dixon White, I'm glad that you did. I had a scary experience here with a dust devil a few weeks ago that was so bad that my son has decided to take a break from the sport. I hope that he comes back to it for more moements like this.
I have flown here(hang gliders)back in the 80's before paragliding hit. This place(and Merriam just across the road)are like the moon! Must be very cool in a PG...especially in a typical AZ sunset. Nice vid.
it is a beautiful place, isn't it? evening flights off merriam can't be beat... this is the only site where i actually COULDN'T get down on one flight... it was my first high-altitude away from training area flight and i got a grand thermal... wasn't quite sure how to handle it, but the world got smaller and smaller below! i wish i could have the experience back, but i wasn't ready for it then!

I recently purchased a Dixon White DVD on and when looking for more from him I learned of his passing...
How disappointing, I'm a fan he was never aware of...
