Why would people compare Ipods to game sytems? Anyways, i really want game makers to make games for the psp. It seems that i played all the good psp games :\. Some of his points are actually true but the psp is not all that bad. It not like you can take your xbox or ps3 on the road? Thats when the psp comes in handy. the whole idea of a psp is '' alright" but the games and the graphics suck crap. I am not a person who knows about electronics but could it kill them to put the same graphics as the ps3 on the psp. @SuperJjoseph1 The PSP was released when the PS2 was still big, and the PS3 wasn't yet released, so, at the time, the graphics were great, especially for a portable system. I should also note, the smaller the system, the worse the graphics. I'm honestly not surprised you don't know much about electronics.
The PSP really does suck. Every game I own for that overpriced paperweight feels like a cheap cell phone game. And I intend no hyperbole when I say that. Only Birth by Sleep and Monster Hunter feel like actual games. The Vita will fail hard.

Hmmm, just never gotten into handheld gaming, though I have bought a few GBA and DS games I -have- liked a lot (as well as some great RPGs for cellphone, and the Nokia NGage application's gotten really good too ..I'd recommend that with a proper cellphone (like the Nokia Nseries, over this anyday)
In my book, a well-designed game is one that STARTS OFF easy, and doesnt get hard TOO QUICKLY! When a game is really short, the designers tend to make it harder to give it more "play-time" but in my opinion that's just a poor design because when you finally do beat it the replay value is completely wrecked by the difficulty.
Another thing that also makes a good game is to have things to go back for-like extra "secrets" and easter eggs and stuff-most PSP games *I'VE PLAYED* don't have that stuff
You complain there are no good games, yet you can get homebrew applications such as Maps, Radio, Casino games..
You can also get free games to install on your PSP. That alone puts it one up against the DS.
And the features..? You're seriously complaining they let you watch movies on it..? People love movies, and I use my PSP as a multimedia storage and usage device. It has ample times more features than the DS as well... The reason the DS doesn't run movies is because it's not powerful enough.
I'm not saying that having a movie feature on it is bad- I'm simply saying that they REALLY should have included a bigger card with it.

It is similar to a battery powered controller not coming with a pair of batteries. It would be nice, but it's not the end of the world.

I know you can get emulators, that would fall under the category of homebrew applications.
When running a GBA emulator, the PSP doesn't need nearly as much processor power, so you can turn it way down and have it least at least 10 hours of battery life.

If you're a PSP fanboy I respect that. I don't intend to offend people who like the PSP, and in fact I actually like some of sony's other products, like an old "diskman" that I have-even though I don't really listen to it any more, it was probably the best CD player ever- it had awesome skip protection, impressive battery life and it was solid, too- I've had it 8 years and it still works to this day. Sony is just better at TVs, DVD players, and stuff like that in my opinion.
Although you just explained something about it, how the heck do you break the game discs? After you finish with them, you put them back in the case, or leave it in the psp if you're turning it off. well excuse me for not spending MORE money to extend the battery life of a console that already costs $180. and no, I dont throw my games but I do actually carry them around in a bag with my PSP-after all, it's a portable, you retard! The DS has far better battery life, is much cheaper, and I have 4 games for it all of which are longer than the majority of PSP games, and not too hard when you start off-since the DS has not-as-good graphics, the games tend to be longer, and yes, I have a DS now.
you make some very strong points like having your thumb on the power light and the camera thing on the top and the power lasting 2 hours but I don't think the video and music and being able to put pictures on the psp unnecessary. Also being able to go on the computer with it, its like a mini computer but i guess all consoles has its ups and downs
My point was that they only make it more expensive, I know higher powered graphics is obviously a factor in that as well, but I really don't think it makes a good multi media machine due to the lack of INCLUDED memory cards, the stupid proprietary cards are expensive, and the batteries do not last long. to be fair, the interface for selecting stuff is pretty well designed, and it's nice to have such a big screen if you're watching video, so your milage may vary.

Dont have custom software-so I'd have to get a pandora battery, not to mention having to get a bigger memory card. If sony wanted to make a successful multimedia device, they should have INCLUDED at least a 2 gig card for MP3s and such. The console is already expensive, and I now have a nintendo DS and have sworn off of sony's GAME SYSTEMS. Sony does have some good products, but I personally think their game systems aren't that great. Your milage may vary and I respect that.
i agree with xanenax. gba can't do all that stuff. videos drain battery faster, music drains battery faster, wifi drains battery faster too (ask a laptop). it's always a reason for these things.
LOL :P Well I bought a used fat PSP, I believe they are more robust than the slim. I bought my daughter-in-law a new PSP for christmas and it feels kinda cheap, especialy the UMD door... I hope I won't run into problems with the UMD drive, though I read 90% of the time it won't read due to dirty lens or dirt caught on the laser slide mechanism...
Psp has a bigger screen, more pixel ration, light etc. you cant say that your gameboy lasts longer, because if your gameboy hade all the features that psp hade it would not even last a hour. Ow and Pointing out, what is the problem with starting the game all over, sure it's a little overrated to start all over, but you are going to buy a game you like so why not play it all the way to the end. BTW have you even heard about charging your psp for 24 before using it for the first time, well do it!
I played it plugged in when I first got it to give it a full charge, did not unplug it at all the whole day (so obviously didnt take it anywhere:) then left it plugged in overnight and grabbed it off of the charger the next day. The battery life hadn't deteriorated, it was just never that good to begin with, even when charged over night when it ran out. I now have a DS, which has better battery life-at the cost of lower quality graphics, which doesnt bother me, as long as battery life is good.
i have had the psp mod stuff ready but i keep updating and then theres like a firmware 0.01 below me and i have to wait for the new thing to come out ive been trying to put cfw on my psp for ages but i have vista and a slim white psp so i dont think the motherboard can be modded :(

That's absolutely right, UMD does hold more than a DS card BUT!!! *MOST* PSP games were ported from PS2, or made PSP exclusive but with PS2 graphics-so the game ends up being VERY short, but EXTREMELY hard-like 4 levels, the 1st and 2nd one you just breeze right through, and the 3rd one is pretty hard, and before you know it, you're at the 4th level-which is seemingly designed to torture you! DS has graphics like the N64, so they can fit more gameplay in a smaller space. :)
yes the psp had games like that in the first 2 years, but now games look better and are longer, and all the DS games look slightly better then GBA and the game play sucks. I have both a psp 3000 and a DS light and i never play my ds because there are no fun games, all the DS games are like Mario crap and kid games.

Most of the games SUCK on the PSP. It's not like I was comparing it to the ORIGINAL gameboy- I was comparing it to the *DS*. Besides, PSP falls short as a portable console due to all the problems I've mentioned-battery life and disks that brake too easily. Yes, the graphics on the PSP are better than the DS, but I honestly would rather have something with better games and longer battery life.

The GP2X is a little-known device that can do most of the stuff without hacking that people hack the PSP to do- most people who have one use it for emulation, and it can play music and videos, and has interchangeable memory cards like the PSP (but I believe the GP2X uses an SD card) Note that it will ONLY play music/video that's been "ripped" from a CD or DVD (as appropriate) it wont work with content downloaded from online services unless they're converted to MP3/MP4, same is true with PSP.
one prob with that device is that like the PSP, it drains the battery in about 2 to 3 hours, and there's not AS MANY 3rd party accessories for the thing as there are for the PSP or the DS.
1. A lot of the games are somewhat crappy IMO, but possibly I've just "missed" most of the ones that don't suck! :)
2. the disks break too easily for a PORTABLE GAME CONSOLE!
3. Battery life sucks- only 2-3 hrs on brightest setting, 5-6 hrs on the lowest screen setting. The DS lite has WAY better battery life-without any sort of extended battery pack! Again, this kind of ruins the portability.

If you're a PSP fanboy I respect that. I don't intend to offend people who like the PSP, and in fact I actually like some of sony's other products, like an old "diskman" that I have-even though I don't really listen to it any more, it was probably the best CD player ever- it had awesome skip protection, impressive battery life and it was solid, too- I've had it 8 years and it still works to this day. Sony is just better at TVs, DVD players, and stuff like that in my opinion.

Although you just explained something about it, how the heck do you break the game discs? After you finish with them, you put them back in the case, or leave it in the psp if you're turning it off. Oh and in every game if you die, YOU HAVE TO START THE LEVEL OVER AGAIN! You deserve a ds (not downplaying the DS) because you and psp don't mix.

well excuse me for not spending MORE money to extend the battery life of a console that already costs $180. and no, I dont throw my games but I do actually carry them around in a bag with my PSP-after all, it's a portable, you retard! The DS has far better battery life, is much cheaper, and I have 4 games for it all of which are longer than the majority of PSP games, and not too hard when you start off-since the DS has not-as-good graphics, the games tend to be longer, and yes, I have a DS now.

you make some very strong points like having your thumb on the power light and the camera thing on the top and the power lasting 2 hours but I don't think the video and music and being able to put pictures on the psp unnecessary. Also being able to go on the computer with it, its like a mini computer but i guess all consoles has its ups and downs

My point was that they only make it more expensive, I know higher powered graphics is obviously a factor in that as well, but I really don't think it makes a good multi media machine due to the lack of INCLUDED memory cards, the stupid proprietary cards are expensive, and the batteries do not last long. to be fair, the interface for selecting stuff is pretty well designed, and it's nice to have such a big screen if you're watching video, so your milage may vary.

Dont have custom software-so I'd have to get a pandora battery, not to mention having to get a bigger memory card. If sony wanted to make a successful multimedia device, they should have INCLUDED at least a 2 gig card for MP3s and such. The console is already expensive, and I now have a nintendo DS and have sworn off of sony's GAME SYSTEMS. Sony does have some good products, but I personally think their game systems aren't that great. Your milage may vary and I respect that.

LOL :P Well I bought a used fat PSP, I believe they are more robust than the slim. I bought my daughter-in-law a new PSP for christmas and it feels kinda cheap, especialy the UMD door... I hope I won't run into problems with the UMD drive, though I read 90% of the time it won't read due to dirty lens or dirt caught on the laser slide mechanism...

Psp has a bigger screen, more pixel ration, light etc. you cant say that your gameboy lasts longer, because if your gameboy hade all the features that psp hade it would not even last a hour. Ow and Pointing out, what is the problem with starting the game all over, sure it's a little overrated to start all over, but you are going to buy a game you like so why not play it all the way to the end. BTW have you even heard about charging your psp for 24 before using it for the first time, well do it!

I played it plugged in when I first got it to give it a full charge, did not unplug it at all the whole day (so obviously didnt take it anywhere:) then left it plugged in overnight and grabbed it off of the charger the next day. The battery life hadn't deteriorated, it was just never that good to begin with, even when charged over night when it ran out. I now have a DS, which has better battery life-at the cost of lower quality graphics, which doesnt bother me, as long as battery life is good.

i have had the psp mod stuff ready but i keep updating and then theres like a firmware 0.01 below me and i have to wait for the new thing to come out ive been trying to put cfw on my psp for ages but i have vista and a slim white psp so i dont think the motherboard can be modded :(

That's absolutely right, UMD does hold more than a DS card BUT!!! *MOST* PSP games were ported from PS2, or made PSP exclusive but with PS2 graphics-so the game ends up being VERY short, but EXTREMELY hard-like 4 levels, the 1st and 2nd one you just breeze right through, and the 3rd one is pretty hard, and before you know it, you're at the 4th level-which is seemingly designed to torture you! DS has graphics like the N64, so they can fit more gameplay in a smaller space. :)

yes the psp had games like that in the first 2 years, but now games look better and are longer, and all the DS games look slightly better then GBA and the game play sucks. I have both a psp 3000 and a DS light and i never play my ds because there are no fun games, all the DS games are like Mario crap and kid games.

so YOU don't like the DS-but I have actually PLAYED some of the games before-on a friends DS- and *I* liked them. Not to mention that the battery life on either kind of PSP-the slim or the original- is sucky, but the slim is even worse than the original in that respect. So what if the graphics suck compared to todays consoles- I'd rather have long battery life, after all, it's supposed to be PORTABLE!

because *I* like several of the DS games I've played, that's why. In terms of *graphics* DS is more like the N64. If that really affects your enjoyment that much, then the PSP is for you. I'm not insulting you for being a PSP fanboy- the PSP just isn't my kind of console. And believe me, I know what the DS is like-I've played several DS games and seen reviews on them, even though I don't actually have one-but I'm hoping to get one for christmas! :)

News flash- I DONT CARE if the system can play music or videos- the Ipod touch can play videos and music, and it's also a half-assed game console with the advent of games on the app store. batteries last somewhat longer than PSP *BUT!* they are not user replaceable-meaning u have to send it in for repairs to get them replaced when they no longer hold a charge. If I *wanted* a game system to play music/videos, why the fuck would I want a DS? The DS has few "extras" but is a better *GAME* console!

Most of the games SUCK on the PSP. It's not like I was comparing it to the ORIGINAL gameboy- I was comparing it to the *DS*. Besides, PSP falls short as a portable console due to all the problems I've mentioned-battery life and disks that brake too easily. Yes, the graphics on the PSP are better than the DS, but I honestly would rather have something with better games and longer battery life.

The GP2X is a little-known device that can do most of the stuff without hacking that people hack the PSP to do- most people who have one use it for emulation, and it can play music and videos, and has interchangeable memory cards like the PSP (but I believe the GP2X uses an SD card) Note that it will ONLY play music/video that's been "ripped" from a CD or DVD (as appropriate) it wont work with content downloaded from online services unless they're converted to MP3/MP4, same is true with PSP.

1. A lot of the games are somewhat crappy IMO, but possibly I've just "missed" most of the ones that don't suck! :)
2. the disks break too easily for a PORTABLE GAME CONSOLE!
3. Battery life sucks- only 2-3 hrs on brightest setting, 5-6 hrs on the lowest screen setting. The DS lite has WAY better battery life-without any sort of extended battery pack! Again, this kind of ruins the portability.
