I love my History teacher, we went over this last week. We go over every little side statement now. He got teacher of the year (state) for the past 3 years, so basically hes the only teacher I know, private or public school, that I know that actually teaches things like this.

What a shame that the authors of the Constitution (flawed as it is) didn't include a ban on standing armies. Several of them wrote in correspondence of their disappointment that it wasn't included and we have paid a terrible price for its exclusion.

After he persuaded Congress to declare war, Madison was reelected President over DeWitt Clinton but by a smaller margin than in 1808.. in 2006 Madison's failure to avoid war was ranked as the 6th worst presidential mistake

america is a perpetually warlike country--an empire. it swept across the continent for 100+ years, annihilating the native americans through war and aggression, branding them as barbarians. Then, in the beginning of the 20th century, when the continent was theirs, Americans expanded the conquest abroad--that's when the World Wars happened, the hundreds of foreign military bases, the CIA, wars of invasion in the third world. America just won't stop til it's conquered the globe will it?

What a shame that the authors of the Constitution (flawed as it is) didn't include a ban on standing armies. Several of them wrote in correspondence of their disappointment that it wasn't included and we have paid a terrible price for its exclusion.

But really: What can I do? I feel helpless. No matter what anyone says about the European Union ensuring peace for Europe, it really is our alliance with the USA that gave us our comfortable, peaceful life. How can our government pull out if the US does not (I know, I know the Netherlands just did)

@rokarolla I think to end the wars you would need a Ron Paul or Dennis Kucinich type in the White House. They both have, for their own reasons, want to end the wars and bring home our military. No doubt in my mind if Ron Paul had got the nod 90% of our military in the middle east would be home by now.

Was speaking at a conference at McMasterUniversity, Canada on the 15th of January, honoring the birthday of Martin Luther King, revisiting the values he lived by and the link also was made to McDonald. Canadian gov did something very healing for the nation. They adressed the crimes against indigenous people in the parliament and asked for forgiveness. The U.S. gov is lacking this adress and still lives in the Wild West mentality of the past where wars are legitimate!

Checked out Madison on Wiki and it seems to be obvious, that he was a Freemason among other people at that time, so John A. Mac Donald in Canada, who lived based on universal applicable values. A Road to Endless War has driven the US to bankruptcy. I think that the sooner the markets collapse, the sooner we can get on with our lives, kick out the central banks, tear down the so called money trust including the CFR and then retake everything back that they stole. That is a warning we should heed. He's saying that we shouldn't assume those in power are on the level when it comes to them using war powers.
