Genocide? Must be an expensive genocide campaign with all the money thrown at giving aborigines an easier life than non-aborigines. Most aboriginal health problems would be solved if they bushed their teeth, washed their faces, stopped drinking alcohol, and stop eating junk food. Don't forget, aborigines wouldn't be in gaol if they weren't committing crimes. Having known police officers, they claimed that they are instructed not to intervene in offences committed by aborigines, unless serious.

Why can't I say the same with aboriginal health, even after government investigations in to the problems have found the same scenarios and solutions? Btw, an offence may not necessarily be a crime, but you still can be locked up for one.

Free health and free education are all pointless if the very resources for health and education are not available or easily accessible to any community or society. Passive welfare is a noose for ANYONE and it appears that after many years aboriginals who have wanted welfare reform in their own communities (refer NT in particular) are finally succeeding and literacy rates are rising. I am not sure if the heroin addicts, gambling addicts or sexual predators are experiencing success to reform.

The subject here is genocide. While there is alcoholism, crime etc within Aboriginal communities, it appears to be accompanied with an attitude from Non-Aboriginal that Aboriginal must bear full responsibility for their behaviour - which I do agree with for all people/communities. However I have observed this same self-regulation attitude is not considered upon heroin addicts, gambling addicts and sexual predators - our Govt policies help these people also and no one comments.

Aboriginals receive FREE education, social security payments and health. They receive extraordinary benefits above and beyond non-black australians. Mr Pilger would do well to point out that the vast amount of handouts to aboriginals is spent on alcohol and junk food. Mr Pilger, how about showing some balance and indicate the need for people take (some) responsibility for themselves.

Well if the parents were more interested in feeding their kids (and not spending their "sit down" money on grog) and taking them to clinics and keeping them clean, this wouldnt happen. Yes, I feel sorry for the kids, but it is the parents that need to be held accountable for the illnessess their kids get. And the reason life expectency is so low in Aborigial people is because, grog is more important to them.People on renal treatment still go and get drunk daily. Work that out?
