  • I have yonger brother who liked Justin Bieber very much. But then I was once listening this song very loudly when he came in my room. He asked me who plays that and I told him. Now we both are listening Dire Straits and many other rock legends and he never listened JB again!

  • Mark has to be the finest guitarist of our times. Maybe of all time. There are many who play and are great; of that there's no question. But Mark Knopfler stands in a class by himself.

This moves me greatly, a tear shed, for beauty; for growing old.

  • indémodable et toujours aussi agréable à écouter ;-)

  • I think the Gibson Les Paul was one '59! not a '58, where did you get this information?

  • fantastic!

  • This is the only instrumental that moves me to the extent of bringing tears to my eyes. Mark Knopfler, you're a legend.

    (Y)

  • Love the crowd just being silent and quiet while the perfomance.

  • These notes put me in a second of mind. I fear for my life. Help!

  • Someday, there will be a resurgence of great music like this, and our airwaves won't be polluted with hip hop crap and teenybopper pop singles

  • i was young enough to see him at cardiff arms park in maybe 95ish, couldnt hear for 2 days but sultans of swing and local hero were amazing X

  • I'm loving the little variation from 3:21 to 3:30. This whole piece is full of feeling.

Love, love, LOVE MK. I only wish I had been born 20 years earlier so that I might have been able to go to a DS concert in my lifetime.

  • 38 dislikes. Looks like we've found 38 deaf people! This is pure class from Mr Knopfler, as usual.

  • exellent exellent

  • amo con todo mi ser este tema

  • @TheEpeli89 well, pretty much the best song, I agree..it is so...intense

  • Bad recording....the mic's are getting trashed....

  • Why isn't Mark Knopfler in every Hall of Fame in existence?!

  • @abir12501101 Excellent Question!!...

  • When I was in my darkest hours, this is the music (the whole album - with Jerry Rafferty!) that relaxed me enough to get me to sleep.

  • 1:43 :)

Seriously, it's amazing that just two instrument can make this lovely sound together.

  • @TheLegendWillLast simply mozart and beethoven mixed music with maths. This is pure music. :)

That is something you must do for your mate. I live just outside Newcastle and that song " Local Hero " is a local anthem( its actually titled "Going Home" ). When it plays inside St.James park its mind tingling and sure your pal will be with you in spirit and home where he belongs, along with another 55,000 passionate geordies....... To all troops fighting the cause come home safe

  • My favourite version is on Alchemy Live

  • A great guitarist never plays the same way twice. This way you'll find a version you love. I still like the Night in London version better, but this one is a very close second.

  • @cmudgan

    Try Santana

  • A true legend at work, thankyou Mark for endless hours of pleasure listing to you play !!.

  • thank you thank you THANK YOU Mark

  • Very heart felt instrumental. He is a great guitarist.

  • GEORDIES

  • There's something about this song when he plays it on a Les Paul.

  • @Buster690

    I noticed that too D:

  • @Buster690 Aint that the truth!

  • can anyone tell me who is the original performer of the version that is played before nufc matches? with the sax, cheers!

  • @jefflyall94 Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits) himself is the composer and the original performer of this tune. He wrote it as part of the soundtrack for the movie "Local Hero". The tenor sax version was originally played by Mell Collins (also Dire Straits), if I remember correctly.

  • @SaxySanta777

Yeh ! That's Mel Collins playin' on "Alchemy"...

    Good good memory !

  • @narbaleth

Thanks Man ! It's been quite a few years. I wasn't 100% sure. Good to see that people still love this music.

  • Only two man...

  • Where am i? Is this real?

  • 0:00 to 5:03 was awesome. after that it sucked !!

  • so sensitive!

  • For dad. Love you, mate.

  • I love this man!!

  • Is that an original Standard from '59??? 0_____o

  • @ASFM11

it is a '58 model. Former owned by Clapton

  • This is for the end of life.... Magic!

  • I'm so glad that you could hear the music without an audience of shits cheering and yelling every 30 seconds

  • toon toon

  • he is a local hero he saved the world from bad music

  • @ikhebeenfeesthoedjeo Yeah!!!!

  • @nedalizo @blueaziza,Yes indeed,this is music!

This is my favorite one,I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

    greatzzzz bluemoon

  • BRIVIDI

  • nice

  • I like this piece on the Strat. I have nothing against Les Pauls (I own one). But I think the Strat that he recorded the song with is much better suited.

  • @gegloff1

I agree on that point, his red Strat rocks :)

Even if I'm not an expert (I can't play a single note on guitar even though it's my favorite instrument)

Actually, I've never played any instrument at all

  • @mdiarra2 Never too late to start learning. You'll love every minute of it. Just don't buy any cheap guitar. It is frustraiting to struggle with bad instrument and you'll develope all kind of bad habits that will stay with you for the rest of your life. Good luck !!!

  • I love this song.....it is great fun to play.......check out my version "justgeorge121" if you want my backing track i can email it to you....justgeorge

  • yes yes yes yes yes, just something about him and his playing, his songs are fantastic but this one, i can't describe how good this one is, it just shits in the faces of the people who say 'shredding is great and everything else is shit'. Man, i love this song, undescribable. :)

  • Keyboard player did a grand job too.

  • As a fifteen year old, I bought the Local Hero cassette in Fort William to listen to on my parent's car music system (new thing then) - such perfect music to listen to in a car driving in the Highlands of Scotland

  • 33 people are already home...

  • @SmilesOfEvil To put the "dislikes" into context, that's 33 people out of nearly 1.5 million who have watched. I won't even try to work out the percentage.

  • Awwwwww!! That is soooo good!

  • @TheGorrilla @blueaziza,Yes,this is soooooo fucking good,i feel the music in my bones!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @blueaziza I still think they are some of the finest musicians on the planet.

  • beautiful, beautiful, beautiful

  • he was blessed with such talent and the ability to play with heart and soul~

  • He has truly found a way to communicate. His medium is music and he speaks very passionately.

  • Knopfler and Fletcher- great combination

  • Had this played at my Bro's funeral, two years have passed since I lost him, always remembered, loved and missed in equal measure, until we meet again Steve, take care, know that you are always in my thoughts

  • Alan and Mark play this so Lovely. As for the 29? they must live on Mars. Didn't know Mars got You Tube yet but we can't explain poor taste. Probably Marilyn Manson fans. hehehe

  • @cinnabarrazz Mark Knopfler is brilliant, so is Marilyn Manson.

  • i think this is the first time i get in love with a song

  • No other guitarist can draw more emotion out of a single note than Knopfler.

  • @cmdugan except Slash

  • @cmdugan Gary Moore

  • @cmdugan david gilmour?

  • @cmdugan David Gilmour, Andrew Latimer and Steve Rothary to name but 3...

  • @cmdugan gilmour

  • Mark doesn`t just play the guitar...he makes it sing....

  • @kenhol44 @blueaziza,yes and i can feel it in my bones!!!!

  • 32 people have no Heart, Soul, or Feelings. Amazing Music

  • 32 people have no soul!

  • great song, hope it's not for a long time yet but want this played at my funeral as i will be going back to a place i belong and think this song would be a great way to go back there.

  • A very moving and inspirational piece of music.

  • A very moving and inspirational piece of music.

  • It's magic as soon as he touches the strings ...

  • I like the film, fow it builds, most excellent music.

  • Celestial music.

  • I'm going to piss on, but only slightly, this beautiful performance of a lovely piece of music by a living treasure: the FOH sound guy OR the guy in the mix truck or some intermediary mixer has a noise gate comp that has the threshold set WAY too high on the guitar, just on the cab mic line prob., and we are missing some important lower attack volume notes you can SEE him play but not hear. MK's a dynamic player, pp to f, fingertips... Just compress from the top, Mark is a pro

  • the best melody

  • i hear that music since i had 14 years old... i never bored.. i hear over and over.. no other make me feel so good....

  • 32 people are unhappy, they don't know felicity!!

  • @rafaelparoxD just phillistiens probally all glee an justin bieber fans ,,this is real music.

  • MK leaves them all in the dust. He is an absolutely incredible musician and songsmith. I would love to play bass with him for one song before the end. What a talent!

  • The mannor in which is plays the guitar is amazing.....

  • what a beautiful les paul. Knopfler is amazing as usual

  • is magic mark by claudio

  • @mynameisluke1971 ... actually they forgot to turn the sound on

  • 30 Justin Bieber fans watched this video

  • I want this song played at my funeral.

  • I like 0:00 to 5:04 the best.

  • @Sandler41882 oh yeah i agree ha ha different class

  • @Sandler41882 wow...sooo original

  • Cant believe ive been listening to him for over 30 years he only geets better with age

  • amazing

  • Listening to his music is a quick peek into heaven

  • Mark Knopfler looks like my aunt

  • @NarcoS1S Then you must have an awesome looking aunt xD

  • Every now again there comes an artist who has that magical inspired touch............ like Mike Knopfler. Every nuance and note carefully crafted. The listener is transported to the beauty, feeling and passion of the song. What an artist! Bravo!

  • i feel a chill when i hear your guitar singing by your heavenly hands..

you sometimes makes me cry just by playing your guitar..

you like a live legend, and your so calm, and ur moving with your guitar, i know the guitar is part of your heart, thats why u play so amazing

ill allways thumb up for you, no matter what

  • I think credit should also be given here to the keyboard player for a beautiful backing, the lead can be as good as you like but if the backing is off it all sounds dreadful. I think this is Guy Fletcher with a superb effort here??

  • @amosbriz Yes, that's Guy Fletcher. Amazing keyboard player and an amazing songwriter himself! :)

  • When I told my music teacher (around age 14) that rock and classical music has a lot in common, she laughed at me.

  • @antiHUMANDesigns your teacher was a moron

  • @NarcoS1S Yes, sure was. Not a very nice way to be treated either.

  • Fell in love with this song back when I saw the movie. The feeling has never left.

  • 30 people are obiously deaf.

  • while his guitar gently weeps....

  • this is the first time i ever heard this and it moved me if you feel the same give me a thumbs up

  • @nateatuide Your so lucky that this is the first time you have heard this track, I've lost count of the times I have heard it, and it must be so exciting to listen to Local Hero for the 1st time.

  • @nateatuide This is about the 500th time i have heard it and it still moves me! Beautiful music from Knopfler.

  • @nateatuide He recorded it years ago for the movie sound track of "Local Hereo". Still sounds fresh, though.

  • @nateatuide You should try to see the Movie. Great story and fantastic scenery. Filmed in Scotland...

  • this is MUSIC from someone who has TALENT! Not the kind of "I'm gonna shock you" bullshit that's so prevalent these days from some fly-by-night pop star whose name no one will remember in five years. Mr. Knopfler is great!

  • Local Hero is one of my favorite movies of all time, enhanced by the creative and inspirational music of MK. Hearing this beautiful melody always reminds me of the movie and my time in Europe. Thank you Mark for a timeless treasure.

  • I add this to favorites before even listen haha

    HE ROCKS!!

  • drift away to a land of peace

  • I really need to upgrade my fingers!

  • mk is a modern day Mozart, he has composed to much Admired by his peers, stands out as FIRST

  • Mark Knopfler is the best musician in the world

  • morceau fabuleux !!!! tombé le cul par terre la premeire fois que je l ai ecoute

  • He makes that guitar sing, quite literally.

  • Awesome!!!!!!

  • When clapton touch his quitar, i dont know its diferent. Knopfler plays with such amazing fillings, like no other quitar player in the history. i think he even upgradet hendrix. i recomend the so far away from australia 1986.. Amazing intro, mind blowing

  • @mystermusculo Finally, somebody said some sense. When I say he's greater than Hendrix, people look at me like im some kind of antichrist. But hey, as Churchill said, "not just the majority, even if everybody says the same thing that doesnt necessarily make it a right thing", so I'm fine with that
