  • I love the fact that rupert gregson williams is playing in this.. :)

  • The last few seconds of that amazing song: an echo of Ride Across The River's end?

  • There should be sth wrong with those 5 dislikes !!!!!!

  • @moghadasi1986 No, This only shows us that the chance of missing the like button is exactly

  • Words can't describe this song, love it love it LOVE IT :D

  • Clapton or Knopfler,,,,,,,You guys are waste'in time. YOU're compare'in apples to oranges. Both legends, "Thank God for they're talent".

  • Love the song. Reminds me of simpler, happier times when we had nothin but our friends and it was more than enough to be happy.

And i love instrumental on the end because i always add some of my memories in few lines. (:

  • ref comment clapton v mark although i agree with you hands down its not just about guitar its also about song writing so if you take that into acount mark still wins hands down hes a bloody genius and to be honest i dont wanna live in a world without marks music and similar talent in sure must be out there so have it lol

  • clapton can't keep up with knopfler. never could, never will, not the lyrics, not the melodies, not the stories, the man stands alone.

  • This is one of his own kind heart touching song! take me to the other side of the world like i was born in Ireland not in Turkey.

Of course E.Clapton also given many nice songs to music world but Knopfler is with unique feeling, style and stories so more intellectual.

Before Gas and TV reminds us our roots our history all simple reality in our short life

  • That's what i want for me, a world before gas and tv.

  • Seems to me that Knopfler has a healthy respect for Clapton and vice versa. They are long time friends and musical compatriots. But that's the way it usually goes. Those sitting on the sidelines have to rank musicians according to some ridiculous "who's the best" scale, when in truth they're simply different in style and approach. It's actually ok to enjoy the music of both Clapton and Knopfler. And to say Clapton "isn't that good" is remarkably narrow-minded.

  • @SantaCruzOM "Those sitting on the sidelines have to rank musicians..."

It'd be nice if everybody'd understand and remember this obvious truth.

Then again, that'd mean between one and two thirds of the comments on YouTube music pages would just disappear.

    Oh, wait...

  • This is by far Mark Knopflers best song, imho. I'd love to sit beside him playing the guitar on the edge of the field, passing a bottle of wine.

  • Great song. It would be great to sit by the fire on the summer night there... on the edge of the field.

  • Love it ! If he ever comes to play in New York i'm there !

  • What an amazing song. It's like going on a route alone, just you and the paviment. Tired of the polluted city, of the sickness of the people. Amazing.

  • This song is simply beautiful, one of the best of Mark Knopfler imho. Simple, strong and beautiful lyrics. I just love it!

  • I agree with all the comments... Mark Knopfler has a touch when he plays... Noone like him.

  • ok mowgli i bileive to say., Knopfler is a best

  • here is a gooseflesh on my arms

  • I have bought most of MK's solo albums and liked every one of them apart from the one with the fruit machine on the album cover. That one put me right off, but listening to the songs from this album has restored my faith in the great man's work. I love it!

  • Mark is doing songs that anybody can play. You can whistle all his songs in this record, and with a bit of skill, you can play the basic stuff on the guitar, like the classic folk tunes and traditional music. I think it's great, it will be more appreciated as the time go by. Knopfler is going better as a songwriter.

  • It wakes up memories. Memories about.. heh, sitting around the fire, passing a bottle of wine and dreaming of stopping the time in such moments. Beautiful.

  • If Heaven's like this

    Well that's ok with me

    where the living is fine

    And living is free.

    Sublime.

  • This is the music for Brothers in Arms

  • with true great guitarists and musicians, you cannot compare one against each other, the individual plays through their heart, and inner soul/being. The listener feels what they individualy feel. So trying to compare should not be really not an issue. If the music moves you at the moment, enjoy it, love it and live it.

    Simple as it sounds

  • I liked his work in Dire Straits better, unfortunately.

  • music from the heavens

  • A Knopfler masterpiece again. (Far not all His works are that - to me.) Thank for uploading it!!!

  • I dont understand people who compare mark knopfler with eric clapton, they are both great guitar players, who both made epic songs without they needed eachother, so there for the comparing is useless, or heretical? for whatever that made sense, dissrespectfull if you asked me. 26 thumbs up? I can tell you no guitar players just like you @mowgli16 This is not what i believe this is the truth.

  • @guitarwaysted Totally right. K. uses a picking technic, others plectrum, so impossible to compare. And what are the aspects? Empty speed? Malmsteen is very quick, but... after a while dull. Knopfler somtimes uses only 2-3 tunes, but those "tell" much more than a sensless tunesprint. So musically He is great, but on a technical guitar comptetition would not win.

    But that,s the better.

  • love it love it love it! Always liked Dire Straits and Mark is awesome solo as well. Defo one of my all time favourite guitarists to sit back and chill to. Mark Knopfler, David Gilmour and Mike Oldfield. Sorted :-D

  • I'm crazy for this song..This music come from sky ...Knopfler is a great guitarist and a great man.

It's wonderful...I always cry when i ear this song. This the music from angels...

Thank you soo much for this video..I love it...

    zezicumbia

It's too much for my heart..

    xxxxxxxxxxx

  • marks music hits your soul

  • heretical? meaningless ...what the fuck does it mean? every great guitarist has his own syle and world of feeling. Stop with the "my guitarist is better than yours" syndrome pls!

Listen to the music and enjoy Eric,Mark,Jeff,Jimmy,Ji,Leslie,Mike,Alvin.and the late Jimi and Roy .and Mike,, and Steve Ray and so on......

  • @jennensis You are totally right: a Blackmore fan, who likes Knopfler, Slash etc. too.

  • Not Heretical, Just two guys with a remarkable talent to make beautiful music, different styles but the same end product, EXSTATIC SOUNDS TO OUR EARS !!!

  • memorabila piesa. cu get lucky, mark arata, inca o data, ca e un artist versatil si rafinat. classy.

  • Magnificent and unique ¡¡¡¡ Long life for MK, I love you

  • What a beautiful song, great album!

  • OK. This might be heretical... but I truly believe Mark Knopfler is a better guitarist than Clapton.

  • i agree

  • He's not a better guitarist... he's a better ARTIST. He can compose a good song in any style... genius!

  • clapton is just musician not more

  • of course man

  • @mowgli16 Truth is more than often heretical, my friend. Be proud of it. :-)

  • @mowgli16 of course he is..why be shy..

  • @mowgli16 I'm pretty sure if he was honest Clapton would thumbs up what you're saying my friend. Great though he is, Clapton can't make me cry with either his voice or his playing. Mark's guitar has a heart and speaks to the soul.

  • @nacho1560 AMEN! Knopfler holds your heart gently in his Scot soul.

  • @mowgli16 Man...thats a bold statement! I dont know they are both unbelievable, but I dont think i could pick between them...... i think either one would say the other is better.....

  • @mowgli16 i would say mark is the better singer and song writer. as for the better player i couldn't really compare the two. both are equally amazing at what each does

  • @mowgli16 heretical usualy means true....xD like this time

  • @mowgli16 Different styles but it is just true.

  • @mowgli16

No, you're right, Knopfler is a much wittier and more distinctive player than Clapton.

  • @2Touchstone

Who can define the better one between two best guitarists in the world? That's right: it's you - the third best guitarist.

  • @MrStringstone

Eric Clapton is boring. He just shreds.

  • @2Touchstone

In this case "boring" is a matter of taste. They are too different as well as their music. Both are real legends. You can't SEE in Clapton's "shredding" what I SEE in it. I on the other hand might not see in Knopfler's "not shredding" what you see. (but I actually do because to me he is as great as Clapton) :)

  • @mowgli16 I wish I could like that more than once :)

  • @mowgli16 I wish I could like that more than once :)

  • @mowgli16 agreed. Clapton is an inquisitive child compared to Mark's matured, perfected playing.

  • @mowgli16 lots of people play better than Clapton my friend..... 8-) (he isn't that good really......)

  • @DubvibeProd I agree...

  • @mowgli16 Goes without saying; clapton stcuk in one style. Lokk at mark's work with Chet Atkins etc

  • @mowgli16 just better than Clapton?! I think he's even than Hendrix

  • @mowgli16 just better than Clapton?! I think he's even better than Hendrix, I mean he does write his own songs...

  • @mowgli16 Je le pense aussi, beaucoup plus complet avec un jeu moins classique , avec des phrasés hors du commun !

  • @mowgli16 That's why Clapton says his favorite guitar/ soul singer is Mark.

  • Una dintre cele mai reusite piese ale ultimelor albume. Comparabila cu Brothers in Arms.

  • The legend returns !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great song!

Thank you very much for posting!

  • esto es una joya!!!!!!!!!

  • very irish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Excellent song

    thanks

  • Moi boa cancion, lembra o sonido folk celta
