  • Loved Lou and the Kozmetix. Used to head to the Living Room in Providence to see them when they came to town. Did they ever do a vid of Voodoo Bride?

  • I went to high school with Lou in the 70's. He was a real nice guy.

  • wow, where the hell did u find this!! great post!

Looking for Providence based bands at Spit, metro or anywhere on video from 1978-1983

  • The fact that there's not a reissue of his records is a clear proof of how tasteless the music industry is nowadays...

  • There was just one Lou Miami...he was great! RIP

  • thats my dad playing the guitar: jackrootoo not even kidding

  • He was terrific

  • this brings back gr8 memories

  • Carm just played Lou Miami on WAAF BayState Rock tonight, nice to hear that on the radio.

  • Lou always had a large drink onstage and would flap his head back and forth franticly. Very fun and inspiring. I must have been 14 with fake ID to sneak into shows.

  • Awesome, thanks for this. favorited.

  • I am extremely sad to hear about Jack's passing. When and how did he pass? I ran into him at the late Kirkland in 2002, and we recognized each other after twenty two years. I played in a band that used to back up Lou. He was a great guy. Lou may have looked and sounded ridiculous to some, but there were few tighter, polished, and more hard driving bands than Lou's when he had Jack and melody in the band. We would all die for a Cantones video.

  • I was a very good friend of Lou's, and knew all the folks in the band back then. I photographed the band on a number of occasions, and have some classic images, as well as all the vinyl. I remember you, Bill. Good to hear from you. I'm still grieving over Lou's passing, and sad about Jack too.

  • That's me playing bass in this video. I was the bass player in Lou Miami & the Kozmetics from 1979-1981. Thanks for posting this.

My God am I the member of this band who is still alive?

  • RIP Tim Danahy (sp?) and Jack Rootoo (sp?)

I miss HP or whatever your manager's name was wandering around nervously by the stage!

Long Live Lou Miami and the Kozmetix and their stage intro to Hawaii Five-O!

The world will never see anything like it again.

    My baby wears rubber pants!

  • When I was in the Kozmetix it most of the time the manager was Joan Martin. HP (Helen) was a permanent fixture though.

  • Cool! I always thought their manager was HP. Believe it or not, I knew two different women who claim 1) that Lou was her house cleaner for a short time, but that she had to fire him because he did such a bad job, and 2) that Lou lived upstairs from her when he was married to his high school teacher and they used to fight incessantly!

Have no idea as to the truthfulness of either of these stories since I only knew Lou as a fan.

  • Lou did marry his high school teacher but you won't hear any gossip from me about my good friends Lou Miami and Jack Rootoo and Melody Chisholm. I will say we had wonderful times in that band and it was a tight knit band we were like family then, tight musically, and always loads of fun in that band. Always laughing. I have nothing but fond memories and good things to say about Lou & Jack & Melody & the time I spent in the Kozmetix, so let the music speak for itself.

  • I met Lou before he was in a band. I was in NYC and went up to Boston to meet a friend, and she introduced me to her "punk" neighbor. He was married then to his H.S. teacher, and they had a kid. This is like 1978 or something. Later I moved to Boston, and Lou was getting his band together, unfortunately, we didn't hang much, but did enjoy running into one another.

  • I saw Lou many times @ the Living Room in Providence; I was even at the last show there when he announced he was going country, The crowd was like"huh". He was a great guy on and off stage. Rest In Peace, Lou.

  • I saw lou with black flag at the channel in boston, both bands were great. he also played in new london, ct. i have seen alot of bands but never fogot lm&k. thanks for the post.

  • I was there for this show but was upstairs with Fox and Bradley...err sneezing.

  • Lou was the greatest showman ever. He never smiled, all business, his band was tight and he was a perfectionist. Some of the best shows were when Lou converted to country. There'll never be another Lou. Died the same day Jerry Garcia did. I knew Lou Miami, and Jerry Garcia was no Lou Miami.

  • I never seen lou miami live , but I have always loved the new romantix song I have 2 of his lps on vinyl and I have saved his obit from the paper .Lou passed on in august 1995 at age 39. Lou rocked and I miss his great music. Thanks for sharing this video

  • Man, I miss Lou. Used to see him at the Living Room in Providence. The best shows ever. Remember Tina Louise? Voodoo Bride? To Sir With Love. Lou was the greatest!

  • Saw Lou & band at Harpos in Newport RI a few times. Great and campy too...I recall To Sir...Ghosts...Do You Know The Way To San Jose? God Bless Our Mobile Home...(In Prov w/ Xanna Don't) ...I heard Lou is RIP now..Rumor?

  • Lou is no longer with us. :<

  • This clip is priceless. My band "Admission of guilt" played with Lou at Cantones several times and after I left them he asked me to play drums for him(I said no!?!). He was incredible to see and hear. Sadly, he changed his sound in "82,he said that it sounded too much like LA hardcore,so besides the 45,I don't know of any recordings of his early, great, songs. There's far too little info around on him. Please put anything else that you can find online, it's much appreciated.

  • and here I thought I was the only one who remebered Lou Miami !

  • Awesome! I loved Lou and the Kozmetix back in the day...they were my favorite Boston band. I have a couple of records somewhere, an EP with "dancin' with death" and "i need a vehicle for love", etc. and a 45 that came in a shopping bag (to sir with love?).

Someone should put their music on CD; it was great!

Ah, Boston in the 80s...good times...

  • I saw Lou and the band a bunch o'times years ago.

    I miss them.

I can never find their music.

Someone should put it on c.d.

  • Lou and the band made a music video back in 1985 to accompany the release of the "Rituals" album. I think the song was "Mack the Knife," but it could have been for "Dance with Death." I appeared as a trench-coated tough guy. I only saw the video once, but would give a lot to own it now. It got some air time on V-66, which was an MTV-style channel for the Boston area in those days. Anyone have any info on where that video can be had?

  • Dear Dr. Ralph, I produced a local music cable show called "30 Go" which inter-cut music videos and interview of Lou for a ten minute segment including video footage from "Mack the Knife", "Ghosts", and "Dance with Death". I found the video tapes a couple of years ago in storage and worked for a year with fantastic editor to transfer to DVD. I'm now on the market for Toast Titanium software which will enable me to rip and burn a DVD for you. Hang tight and stay in touch via email.

  • Berky1,

Could you get in touch with me about this? My uncle Ricky was the guitarist in Lou Miami. I'd love to be able to have some copies for family members as he recently passed away. Thank you, Jill

  • Very sorry to hear about Rick I played in the Kozmetix with ""Jack Rootoo" for more than 2 years. By the way we all knew him as Jack and called him Jack -- it was not just a "stage name". He was a very fine guitarist and a great human being. Sorry to hear about his passing.

  • Thanks very much. I know everyone called him Jack, it confused me to no end when I was little. :) Never quite picked it up myself but at the funeral they made note of it since I heard a lot of people saying, "I always thought Jack was his real name!" There was never a bad thing you could say about him, I don't know many people like that.

  • Wow, I loved and knew Lou way back in the days. Still have the cassette w/ boy detective b/w fire with fire and the single to sir with love in the Lord and Taylor look alike bag. Miss Lou, Jack, HP and Joan M.

  • OMG!! My sistera and friends used to Lou all the time at the Channel a few times at Spit, my favorite song was "My baby wears rubber pants", I will never forget my friend won tickets for us to them at the Channel, she won them on WBCN!!

  • lou at the channel christmas circa 1982. fucken awesome

  • I believe that video came from the excellent site kinodv-dot-net. No other Kozmetix videos there, however.

  • anyone know of sources online where you can download his music? i have a coupla his albums on vinyl i guess i will have to convert to mp3 if i cant find the tunes online.

  • Great vid .I Hope more can be found.

  • Lou was unique!! The band was always fun to watch. I was him many times at The Living Room in Providence and If I can remember maybe at Harpo's in Newport. Great Stuff

  • I cannot believe that I found this on here! Lou was a friend of mine and his wife is one of my best friends..... I miss him... do you have any more videos of him??

  • Lou was my favorite Boston act back in the day. I saw him a bunch of times, usually at the Channel. Sadly there is little info about Lou and the band on the internet. I was thrilled when I found a link to this clip a couple months ago while reading through a message board about the Boston music scene. I would give anything to see/hear more of his stuff again. 'Dance with Death' is one of my all time favorite songs, though I probably haven't heard it in 20 years. Yeah, he is missed.

  • I have been faithfully searching on here for some Lou footage too! What a treat to finally find something! Thanks for posting and I hope to see more in the future. krystorah alle maria fasching!

  • More careful examination answered my own question: this was recorded at Spit in 1981, which was considered a prestigious gig in those days.

  • Anybody know what the venue was for this performance? Cantones was an every Monday night gig for Lou in those days, but they also played many other Boston area clubs: The Space, The Rat, The Paradise, etc.
