I started learning the bagpipes in January of last year and had to stop a few months after due to conflict of interest (time+money) in other instruments being learned at the same time so I have no real expert knowledge of the instrument other than listening to Celtic music throughout my life but I am so impressed by Duncan's playing. I know I'll never be able to play like this, but I've always loved the pipes and now I'm making my dream come true. before hearing this, I didn't know what the pipes were capable of. @derfruhlinginparis You probably need to keep adjusting your bridles on your drone reeds, move them down just a hair at a time until their almost ready to cut-out (stop sounding) then your bag shouldn't take very much air at all. As much as I respect the right of the individual to say what they wish, I don't think anyone in the known world has room to say that a Gordon Duncan tune played by Gordon Duncan needs to anything but exactly what it is. If he plays it this fast, he damn well meant to. Perhaps the intro riff wasn't played as quickly as AC/DC plays it, but the rest of the original composition loses meaning when it's played much faster than this.

Funny how many ask for the sheet music. What do they all want to do with it? I guess follow along because there are very few that can play it and certainly not many at all that would make is sound anything like Gordon. Get the sheet music though and have fun trying I guess. Just don't play it in front of any other pipers. lol

hcurtis - I think you perhaps miss the point behind Gordon and his approach to playing. He developed his own style and regularly took other tunes and adopted them to suit his own fingers. In this regard there is nothing wrong with anyone else doing the same with Gordon's interpretations and, "speaking" as someone who has been fortunate enough to have sat in a pub and swapped tunes with Gordon over the one set of pipes (my own), I know that Gordon would have been all in favour of this.

It's an arrangement of a tune- just like any other tune that a piper plays. Good pipers, one with good fundamentals, will be able to learn it and eventually play it well. Poor pipers will play sloppy. Why do you assume they're poor pipers that are asking? It's notoriously difficult to find the sheet music for this tune. For those of you looking for The Bellydancer, buy "Gordon Duncan's Tunes". The proceeds go to the Gordon Duncan Memorial Trust to support young folk musicians in Scotland.
