  • these are great man but the high knob is a harsh buzz control, I keep mine off usually or below 8oclock

  • Pedal sounds very "REAL" and organic.I have an older(92) randall pro tube 1000 head.its a nice warm full sounding and robust bottom end,but not enough distortion(is more plexi type of clean power) so am looking for a pedal that will make my amp sing with harmonic crush!..I like thin lizzy-Kiss-Ratt-UFO-shooting star etc...Preist...I did listen to a music store salesman testing one through and old bandmaster head.it sounded very versatile.somewhat fuzz to hard rock.though not like a fuzz pedal

  • My left ear enjoyed this.

  • i've tried this pedal for real, and it doesn't sound as good as on this vid. Crap if i may say... but that just my opinion.

  • @PaulGilbert3030

Lots of people have that opinion of this pedal. This is especially true if you are coming from other OD pedals like Boss, Marshall etc.. This pedal tries to recreate the tube distortion sound of old British amps like 60's/70's marshall/vox sound. For that it is quite convincing but can indeed sound weak and underhwelming compared to the thick, scooped compressed sound of modern metal guitar. Dont get this if thats what you want.

  • @thesku11s perhaps u're right. i believe this is a good pedal, but it's just not for me. my apology for saying this pedal is a crap.. :)

  • does this get a fuzz tone like the other muffs?

  • Finally a review which the muff'n is not used to play blues. :)

  • are you using a tube amp ? how would this be with a solid-state amp ?

  • @TheMusicDude1997 yes tube amp

  • @fpe

how would this be with a solid state amp?

  • @fpe

Would this pedal sound good with a solid state amp?

  • i need that as a rack mount

  • Laaaaamps!! *___*

  • wow, i don't know that muff sounds like this, very cool, want it.

  • this seems like EHX only distortion pedal

all the other muffs sounds more like fuzz pedals

to bad this is kinda expensive

    but im getting one

  • what guitar are you using?

  • warning! this demo doesnt show its potential.

i own this pedal and it is amazing.

Its not a heavy metal pedal. but perhaps that seems obvious from the playing

  • As others have mentioned before me, Turn Up The Mids, damnit!

  • so you demoed an EHX English muff'n and played metal...

Thank you for showing us how you can make this pedal sound shit.

  • sorry but the demo sounded too thin for my taste... nice playing though

  • nice

  • haha mastadon!

  • Chewbacca.

  • What a Wookie!

  • Good Video, sounds like a hot rodded orange or vox amp.

  • i think it sounds better without the palm muting

  • your amplifier use valves ?

    what your amplifier??

  • too much freakin palm muting. this isnt a boss mega distortion, geez

  • fu*k palm mute. totaly right

  • This is a sexy pedal!

  • This and the Metal Muff are the best pedals around I like this pedal better though, because it's less sandy and it has this nice tube sound to it.

  • do a metal muff review!!

  • wow

  • this pedal with the metal muff gives me fuckin goose bumps

  • Turn up the mids!

  • noobs think taht killing mid range can get power to the distortion, middle is needed

  • thank god someone else who knows what they are talking about

  • @funkyjones

the mids are great right where they are. make like a bass player and be inaudible.

  • that is one hairy arm.

  • good god your right! i had no idea sasquatch played guitar... haha

  • too much chuga chuga in the demo...

  • this i not for metal man

  • agreed.

  • though it does get a pretty good marshall tone :)

  • go stereo, mudheads

  • This pedal is ripe for modding. I revoiced the pedal which was easy to do and it sounds MUCH better. The biggest problem is the treble knob is horrid. Either keep it on zero or shift its bandwidth way, way up into the presence range. I'm surprised there is not a Muffn modders website. These pedals are cheap, well made, easy to work on and ALL TUBE, and HIGH VOLTAGE too!

  • I run a Double Muff after mine and it really brings out the balls in it... I do agree with everything you said!

  • Yes I have great results stacking this pedal with others. Sometimes I run it into my zvex box of rock which turns the muffn into a sort of tube fuzz face sound. Otherwise my modded muffn is early classic rock in a box; zeppelin, cream, mountain, etc. and with all the gain and sustain you could want!

  • If I want a bluesbreaker tone just like Clapton on the Beano album, which one to choose ?

  • Regarding the treble knob, what's the result if you cut some treble on the guitar ?

  • Rolling treble from the guitar would not be the same as keeping the treble pot on zero. The tone stack on this pedal is after the distortion and interacts with the rest of the circuit massively. So treble cut in front of this box with its treble pot on would probably just sound like dull crap on top of chopped up razor blades

  • is this powered by a 9v adapter?

  • No, it has its own 16 volt AC that is boosted to around 280 V internally by a torroidal transformer inside. This box is a full blown high voltage tube preamp.

  • Comment removed

  • @mKreifeldt Hey,I too was disappointed with the treble control.I've been discussing it in the EHX forum.A admin made good pot type and value suggestions.I will be transferring the info to the "free stomp box .org" website where theres already a couple of BM threads.

  • He does

  • Was that a gorilla playing that? Kool

  • Yeah.....a chimpansee is what crossed my mind....ha,ha...cool.

  • @robrippen Kool is a brand of menthol cigarettes .

    Perhaps you meant cool ?

sorry , i am stupid at 5 am . check my videos .

  • @robrippen AHAHHAHAA

  • Very cool video, i'm sure i'm gonna buy one now.

0:04 i didn't knew the yeti was a so good guitar player lol

  • lol yea hairy lol good vid

  • so cool

  • great drive! please, what are the guitar and the additional gear you have used in this demo?

  • gibson Sg into pedal into Kustom amp FPE-TV

  • I have one of this. The best distortion pedal ever!

  • I bought one last week and have to agree--I even prefer this over the SD Twin Tube Mayhem and the Blackstar HT-DISTX. Suits my style a lot more.

  • its kind of expensive, i mean... £100 for a pedal?

  • its not that great of a pedal,

ive had it for a while,

and it was the first tube pedal i ever owned,

and it was cool to hear a really authentic sound,

but that i tried the ibanez tube king and WOW,

its crazzyyyy! but i got the english muff'n for only 80 bucks, so neat! haha

  • I never knew Sasquatch liked to demo pedals!!

Very well done though... think I'll stick with my Big Muff Pi.

  • Anyone seen any videos of this pedal with a bass?

  • can it oscillate?

  • to astroavery)delay pedals oscillate. do you mean feedback? if so, then yes..

  • i love my fender jazz to :D

  • you can tell the power it has even with the sound quality how it is

  • Big Foot can shred!

  • lol..vintage 60's sound.. vintage 60's hair

  • Love this box Am using it into a fender twin that I mod my self with the help of Gerald Weber. It is a very flex able unit. Thanks for posting your video.

  • so with the use of the tubes, would this help boost a small 15 watt marshall, and make it sound like a form of tube amp?

  • no dude, not really. get a blackheart if your looking for a cheap tube amp. or a killer ant.

  • for the price of that pedal you could get a small tube amp

  • humbuckers+vox+this=ultimate british sound

  • Im sold on it.. though I only have a pf15r practice solid state vox at the moment. Im going to leave the amp clean and let this be my preamp and see what's what. It will work until I get a tube amp

  • i imagine this pedal would work really well as a booster. great overdrive on it's own, kinda like a better version of a tubescreamer, with more gain and better mids...

  • i'm considering using this to replace my friend's crappy DS-1 in my rig. worlds better tone wise. i just wish they were cheaper =/

  • that's possibly the best decision you could make. I spent a year with a DS-1, and everything changed the day I bought this pedal. It makes any amp sing and works perfectly with every guitar I've ever played through it.

  • It's totally worth it. From soft and to thick and fat, man...I can't say enough good things about this pedal.

I got one in mint condition for $100...total steal. Try craigslist vs. ebay. Local deals are usually much cheaper, and you can pick it up the same day.

Good luck, and hopefully you find one.

  • who the fuck cares if his arm is hairy or not?

    he is a man.

  • this pedal's so cool makes ur arm hairy....

  • This pedal really isn't aimed at metal players as it comes with 2 X 12AY7 tubes which are better for a classic creamy British overdrive i.e. Cream/The Who/The Kinks. However, if you want more gain, change the tubes to 12AX7's and you'll get more of a Plexi sound.

It's a great pedal at gig volume, had mine running through an Orange Rockerverb 50 and it kicked considerable rear end!!.

  • WRONG.

    One 12ax7 and one 12ay7.

    Dumbass.

  • TravuhsWree is obviously as blind as he/she is retarded. If you actually use your eyes you'll see that both tubes say 12AY7 on them, as confirmed on the Electo Harmonix website. Dumbass!.

  • I checked Musician's friend.. that's just what they said. Look for yourself.

  • LOOK AT HOW HAIRY HIS ARM IS!!!!

  • i cant get these sounds do u have emgs or sumtin

  • nope

    either stock or seymour duncan

  • electro harmonix makes some good shit

  • Oh wow :|

    I want one.

  • the playing is a little to hard for my taste but the pedal sounds awesome

  • How much??

  • they cost around 190-200

  • Wicked :D

  • Word on the street is that if u combine the muffn with the big muff, u get some crazy sounds.

  • Whats the Price?

  • i think it 189
