  • wouldn't this... HURT LIKE HELL?!

  • Was this filmed in Colorado???

  • fight club

  • How much water did you used was it 1 cup or 2 cups? Please can you give me the recipe?

    Thanks

  • Every video I've seen doesn't say if the lye is in oz or grams. So I'm kind of confused and if all the ingredients all are in oz or fl oz if there are solids. Could you please explain.

  • I wonder what the ratio of water to lye?

  • This is the SIXTH video in this series.

  • Hi I'm going to be using lye for electrolyte in a hydrogen reactor, could anyone tell me what type of plastics lye wont corrode? I only need to use 3oz lye to 34oz of distilled water. thanx in advance, its the only thing I cant seem to find about this stuff.

  • your an idiot!!!!!!!! its not going to explode wtf? hahaha and gloves are for pussies sodium hydroxide is not even bad i have worked with it for many years spilling it on myself many times, all is needed is a water rinse to remove it

  • @TheHappyShack hmm, I doubt you understand, lye with water is basicallly caustic soda... rinse with water.. lol 195 degree water... I dont think so. I've delt with the stuff for 10 minutes and I already know its comparable in damage to pouring battery acid on skin... dissolve's hair, fat.. stuff thats stuck it the drains....hehe

  • @Me102288 naaaaah, and only if you saturate the solution and leave it for about 5 mins to react, then decide to put your hand in it, and its pussy i had a bottle of it explode in my hand (drano bomb) and it went all over me, in my eyes and shit, and i just ran the fuck home, fast!! and jumped in the shower and washed my eyes, it was all good, but i guess for a video like this its completely understandable that she is using all the precautions, as she would not want to mislead viewers. GOODBYE!

  • @TheHappyShack lol right, and I got hit by an airplane while out for a swim in the pool out back of my 50 billion dollar mansion lol. Potasium Hydroxide react's with water, you can't use water to neutralize it. Far as the data sheets, I see vinegar and milk do though. I ain't taking any chances, I'm going to be working with near 60 to 75% lye in water solutions.

  • @Me102288 your a fucking retard, its not even hard to believe that, and it did explode in my hand, it was a glass bottle to, if the glass had of smashed i'd be dead, and your a pussy faggot dickhead

  • @TheHappyShack lol just love how ppl resort to swearing when somebody disagree's with them, lol I know why your angry dude, but seriously, if your immune to lye + water (caustic soda) that would be pretty unique

  • I like the video, but I'm pretty sure if you need to wear safety glasses and gloves I might not want to put that on my skin.

  • @MsBlackbirdBea then you should quit bathing. no lye, no soap. do your homework.

  • What state dose she live in? Looks like Utah.

  • I am just learning about soapmaking with lye. Could someone explain to me the purpose in using lye and what it actually is?

  • @cssobe without lye you cant make soap, it reacts w/ the oils.

    it's sodium hydroxide

  • It's funny how people call it lye soap disdainfully, never reading the labels of the manufactured soap they buy in stores. They all have lye in them! You can't have soap without lye. Nice Video!

  • I learned how to do this from watching the movie Fight Club

  • @blackyblackblack505 First rule is you dont talk about the soap in fight club

  • @BlackJag92 Brad Pitt would want me to.

  • I made soap and its been a week and the soap is still soft as a brownie. what have I done wrong?

I used 3 liters of olive oil , 3liters of water and 500ml of lye. can anybody help me? thanks

  • @bombonasecino1 Hi, the general rule to make soap is 30-40% water (100g oil to 35g water + 12-13g lye) and a 50/50 blend of hard/soft oils. Try finding a good recipe on millersoap or a similar website. Pure olive oil is a good soap but it will be soft for a long time. I use soapcalc to determine the amount of lye and the hardness, conditioning and other properties and it saves me from a disaster batch of soap. This should get you on the right track.

  • i find this looking how to make lye bombs?

  • why is she wearing gloves? is lye dangerous?

  • What kind of plastic container are you using to mix your water and lye? Is it regular tupper ware or a special plastic that is chemical resitant?

  • why the fuck would anyone wana make soap? you can buy that shit in any store!

  • @lexmark136 ever seen fight club? you can make dynamite!

  • @azumangadaioh100 LOL.. but why not just buy the damn soap to make dynamite? I think this bitch needs a big fat cock to keep her busy, then she will have no need for making soap.

  • @lexmark136 I don't know, maybe it's cheaper.

No one actually wants to MAKE soap. but dynamite however...

  • @lexmark136 Why does anyone want to slaughter their own cow and grind it and make hamburgers when McDonalds has them already done? They can control what's in it, they know what's in it and they arent dependant on industry to make it for them. Same reason you put sliced potatos in hot oil to make your own fries rather than buying the ready made. Some people are happy with ready made and dont care what's in it, others want to have the whole experience.

  • @rhblakeman comparing apples to oranges here, making food and making soap is way different. Making your own food is fine if you're a health nut.. but making soap just proves you have no life and need a good shaggin from me.

  • @lexmark136 Nah my main point is that some people do it because they want to. Others buy ready made for the convenience and dont care whats in it just that it works. I dont make my own, I stumbled across this looking for something else but I know their reasoning. Still others do it to sell.

  • Great information, really useful video.

  • One TINY grain of Lye ended up on my cheek and burned a pothole in it 1mm deep and 4mm wide...and scabbed over. OH-MY-God be careful with this stuff!

  • wow! it is the same stuff huh?

so why does't soap rip your face off? or maybe it can? Im still shocked caustic evil soda makes nice gentle soap..surely its a mistake? can someone explain? Thank you

  • @christolz Um, yes, it can burn you, badly, but...once it's in soap, it's not lye anymore and Draino is not lye. You should never use anything, but 100% lye when making soap. Draino has things other than lye in it.

  • @Over40Princess thanks princess , however i think draino might be different to caustic soda cheers!

  • @Over40Princess I didn't say to use Draino! Never use Draino in soap making. Please.

  • OM friggin' G, my friend is named lyes and we translated his name on yahoo babelfish and it gave us CAUSTIC SOLUTIONS. ROFL

  • Is lye the same corrosive stuff that i put down the drain here in teurope called Caustic soda? surely that stuff is so strong it will rip your skin to shreds!

Can someone tell me if that is what i need to make soap, because I already got some causic soda granules . They are very corrosive and u have to put on gloves and mind your eyes.the stuff i use for drains heats up cold water when u add it.I just need to know if its the same stuff as LYE..im confused.

    Thank You

  • It is the same, must be 100% lye

  • Yep. It's Lye aka Caustic Soda aka Drano which cleans your drains. It will seriously burn you if it touches you.

  • @christolz yes it is the same make sure your drain cleaner is 100% lye which is also known as sodium hydroxide

  • They sell red devil lye

  • @guitar4art Red Devil drain cleaner is no longer lye. I'm not sure they make anything, anymore. You can buy Lye at Ace Hardware, it's a drain cleaner, but it's labelled, 100% lye.

  • somebudy can say me what is the material?

  • Comment removed

  • @annkus3 ur a moron

  • Comment removed

  • during my degree study, i've been dealing with the sodium hydroxide with my bare hand along with hundreds of other chemicals including EDTA... no big deal though....

  • i am jacks colon. i get cancer. i kill jack.

  • where can you buy Lye??

  • online, as the chemical sodium hydroxide which is what lye is, there alot of websites that sell it for very cheap and since very few places still sell lye due to dea restrictions.

  • Ace Hardware

  • palin?!

  • yes NaOH is LYE. it is a hasmat class 8 corrosive and no joke. when combined with common H20 something crazy happens. crazycrazycrazy. you should also try mixing brake fluid with powered chlorine for kicks. just kidding. DO NOT.

  • My god man, don't rat on about things you know jack all about.

Something crazy happens? Its called an exothermic reaction when the NaOH comes into contact with the water. Same thing happens with conc sulfuric or nitric. Now bog off and go read some literature.

  • nothing happens when you combine sodium hydroxide with water. if you add a bit of tinfoil it then a chemical reaction happens and it makes hydrogen.

  • I hate the word "Lye". It's "caustic soda" people. or Sodium Hydroxide.

  • i agree with you about that lye word it was beginning to piss me off, and also thanks for enlightening people like myself by letting us know the other names of the chemical

  • OK here's my question:

(If anyone has seen the movie Fight Club you'll know what I'm talking about)

Is it really possible to make nitroglycerin from the byproducts of soap making? Or is that only possible in movie land?

  • Glycerin is a by product of soap making. So if you have nitric acid, then you add the nitric acid to the glycerin, and there you have nitroglycerin. But unless you mix the two in a certain process and VERY carefully, it will explode prematurely. Just as the discoverer of nitroglycerin killed himself long ago in his laboratory, and his brother if I'm not mistaken refined the process.

  • Rules 1 & 2.

  • sorry sir. lol. best movie ever.

  • dont you think the wind is fuckin with your scale?!?!?!

  • Good instructions, thanks.

  • the lye isnt dangerous when the soap has completely cured

  • Comment removed

  • obviously you have not taken chemistry. Lye is a base and you are adding to fatty acids when the two combine they cancel each other out, neutralizing the substance and creating soap

  • The reaction when it is cooked makes it harmless. Do your homework.

  • ALL soap has lye in it..no lye, no soap.

Yup, the stuff you buy in the sotre has LYE in it, laundry soap has LYE in it...

    No lye, NO soap.

  • Go shoot yourself. Or go open a chemistry book.

  • A-fucking-gree

  • the only problem with these videos is that they arent in number sequence. Just when it starts getting interesting....it's over. So...I go searching for the next bit, and never find it, get distracted, get overwhelmed...then think 'gee whizz, I better go do some dusting.....'

nice presenter though. she seems like she would be really kind hearted.

  • Thats exactly what i was just getting frustrated over... I dont understand why they have to all be like 2-3min each anyway? Therd be a whole lot less of them if they were each 10min!!!

  • @fivestars30 dusting? i go smoke some weed, but maybe i'll give dusting a shot!!!

  • how much water do u use

  • Short answer: When the lye is mixed with the fats (oils) it changes chemical composition, so technically, once it becomes soap, it is no longer lye aka sodium hydroxide.

  • Thanks. Very informative. My only negative comment is that you use too many plastic bags. In the other videos for the hand milling process everything is done in a plastic bag. Less plastic, less pollution.I wonder if it can be done in another way?

  • How much water to 6 1/2 ounces of lye? She's still a long way from making soap. Every book in the library covers this video on two paragraphs. What happens next?

  • checkout the recipie that flashes by on the first episode of this series the one that says "how to get ready to make soap" the recipie flashes by kind of quick. That will tell you how much H2o for the Lye.

    2) SHort answer on what happens next is you heat the oil up to same temp as the lye/water mix (around 115 degrees) and combine oil to lye mix ans STIR LIKE A BUGGAR FOR LIKE 40 minutes.

  • i would rather see you pour the water into the bag and watch it explode.

  • im so clumpsy!..i dont think i want to make soaps anymore :(

  • TELL the ingredients haha.. useless vid

  • how about checking out the other videos in the series? maybe that'll help...

  • I have a couple of concerns. First, whether you're inside or out, I think it's a must to wear a mask... those lye fumes are nasty! Secondly, for me, while I understand why you went outside to mix the lye (i.e., in case there are any "mishaps"), seems to me there's more mishap potential with carying the lye water back into the house. That's why I use a deep sink to do my mixing, and I don't have to carry the lye water long distances.

  • very serious stuff and very important - thank you.

  • Thank you so much for the nice video.

  • Cool. Thank you

  • Thanks. Nice video.
