  • OMG!! *****

  • me gusta

  • Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehah! go boy go!

  • Extremely beautiful. I was recently looking into buying uncommon stringed instruments and was trying to decide between a mandolin, banjo, and bouzouki (all of which are extremely expensive and tedious) and then i realized that I live in Knoxville TN, and dulcimer sellers are just up the road :).

  • Oh man, awesome performance! Hearing the drone strings was awesome, too. Only one qualm: why would you admit, in public, to owning a Gatlinburg, TN shirt? ;p What a crazy town, no offense!

  • that was amazing

  • I've watched this several times over the course of the last year. Is there any way to get your arrangement or Mr Thornton's?? My husband has been begging me to learn this ever since he saw this amazing performance! I'll never measure up to your talent, but won't give up trying!

  • @59yeehaw Neither I or Aaron have our arrangements tabbed out I believe :(

If we ever meet at a dulcimer festival, I'd be glad to teach you!

  • @gretchenman Thank you. If I ever get the opportunity to meet you, I'll remind you of that! :-D In the meantime, thanks for the entertainment!

  • I believe I have to apologize to my guitar, for she will probably never be played again after I get a dulcimer kit. You have inspired me, sir.

  • I'm impressed that you taught yourself this much in less than 6 months. Do you play other instruments? I'm just wondering how much effort and talent it would take to play as well as you!

  • great job! keep up the good work!

  • wow dude that was awsome

  • that is awesome!! :))

  • Joni Mitchell used to perform a song with dulcimer.

  • Hi,

I am thinking about getting a dulcimer, and I thought I'd do ayoutube search. Is this the lap style dulcimer. I am asking because I"m totally blind. By the sound, it sounds like it. I know there is also the hammer dulcimer. I know how to play this song on banjo, I learned Turkey in the Straw a few months ago. Thanks for sharing this with us.

    Musically,

    Mrissa

  • mrissamusica, yes it is the lap type

  • interesting to say the least! I thought it was gonna be lame, but thats pretty cool! Over the neck like that, especially that quick is quite impressive!

  • Cool!

  • Huh, I've never seen a dulcimer before, but I sure like the way it sounds.

  • I loved it! Reminds me of the movie Milo and Otis :)

  • you rock

  • wow thats neat!

  • i love this!!! you are inspiring to me.

  • Very impressive! Question: Your beautiful dulcimer has 5 tuning pegs. Do you use 5 strings? You said you tune D-A-D-D equidistant, so I am confused.

  • Beautiful!

  • What kind of tuner do I need for a dulcimer?

  • a good ear is all you need

  • Ah, so you probably don't use a electric tool for it. Well, thx anyway.

  • That was great!!! Very good.

  • Wow! -- That's some cool playing! Thanks for the video -- I really enjoyed it!

  • That's some slick playing! Thanks for posting.

  • this video is one of the things that inspired me to take up the dulcimer. thanks man, you're amazing.

  • Pretty impressive. You look proficient at the beginning, but then when you pick up speed it is really remarkable.

    Great job! Post more!

  • show off. (just kidding) Youre really good.

  • I have always played in D-A-D! :)

Now, I play D-A-D-D four equidistant. I love the four note chords you can get with it!

  • do you use DAA or DAD

  • I,ve always! Loved !the Sound(s) of a Dulcimer & you play it Very Good!

I, ll probably get a real good one! one day like you`re playing!

    Thanks! Amazing!

  • you make me soooooooo.......... PROUD. I Love you Hunter.

  • Fingerings; This so important. Make sure you don't resort to a one finger "noter" method, even if it is fast. Your sound will be more accurate and cleaner if you use the three method.

  • Hey gretchenman! I got me a dulcimer just like yours! I love it! Best thing I have played

  • Aren't the Clemmers spetacular?!

I love mine!!! You should hear them once they mature! They're a DREAM!

    Hunter

  • Not hardly but thanks!!!!!

Faster is fun, but now always better,

I am glad I am finding that out.

    Hunter

  • I'm so impressed. You got your first dulcimer 6 months before you recorded this???

  • Yes, but I had played mandolin a year before. Thanks so much!

    Hunter

  • That was amazing, thank you kind sir.

  • Thank you, and you're welcome, kind sir!

    Jack

  • Hey, that sounds familiar. : ) Rock on, Hunter!

  • 14 Year old Hunter is an up and coming musician from Beckley, WV. We should all keep an eye on him...He's only been playing the mountain dulcimer a short time...after learning the mandolin, first. Great job, Hunter. Ginny and Duncan from California

  • Awsome playing! Thats one nice looking clemmer dulcimer right there!. Keep strumming!

  • Thank you! I am extremely pleased with this dulcimer. It is not even 5 months old yet. I expect it to age like a fine wine!

  • Wow thats a gorgeous dulcimer! Fantastic Job!

  • Wow, great version of Turkey in the Straw. I thought that was a Clemmer dulcimer. My family and I are going to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg in August and will be making a trip to Townsend to visit the Wood N Strings shop.
