But I'm going to be the weird one here to say that season 1 way my favorite. I love all the openings completely. They all have that level of awesome that's got me freaking out (in a good way) every time I see it. But I think it's season 1's simplicity that I love. It's the original. It's not related to the season's arc (although I love how that is done) but rather, it can be applied to the whole world of Supernatural.

Season 4... flapping black wings...I know they're supposed to symbolize the angels...but they're uncomfortably remind me of ravens, too..hence, death. Lazarus Rising & Lucifer Rising, anyone?

Season 5....very vivid imagery of blood (an allusion to the brother's fate? or the upcoming battle?), remember the phrase "blood is thicker than water..." Dean and Sam? Michael and Lucifer?

Overall, season 4-5 is my favorite.

Season 1 is very simple, no arc allusions, just this bluish light that they probably intend to represent the supernatural world. Too simple.

Season 2 is very fiery, they begin to have a story arc, what with Meg's nature revealed, etc, hence the fire...but somehow it's not sophisticated enough for me.

Season 3...the pentagram...nice colorin (and clever allusion to Dean's fateful pact with the demons), but pentagrams remind me of Charmed too much.

Anyone ever notice that they have the same noise in the background, just not at the same moments in the sequence? It's always this growling noise. I like season 5's the best.

I think the noise is an allusion to "white noise" or something...you know, like in that horror movie where the dead/ghosts use a sound wave to communicate and possess people.

Season 2 and season 5 are the coolest. The newest one is probably the scariest one. All and all they go pretty nicely along the themes of the seasons, expect maybe season 4's, because it's very plain and simple, which season 4 was not.=)
