I think you should take the cover off and clean it.

I have the same one in my house (the fan was installed in 1982, when the house was built) and it doesn't move much air, and occasionally it make this weird rattling sound.

Not very old; I have one identical to this in my bathroom and my house was built in '89. The fan is original to the house.
