Going to try this ASAP. Will first try on a pair no longer in use, but thank you in advance. Can you please show us how to shorten sleeve on either a coat or blazer. Tired of giving my money to the tailor.
Thank you so so much. I wish I'd found your video sooner! I has found these awesome Ralph Lauren jeans in the sale but they were too long & I didn't buy them as shortening them the normal way would have ruined the jeans...but now I don't have to live with my favourite jeans being too long. You're brilliant! :)
This video was awesome! I've had one too many poor hem jobs from the alterations shop (always a little too short for my taste). I'm glad that I can take care of it myself now and fix 'em up just the way I like them! I hemmed 5 pairs of pants today, 3 of which I haven't worn forever because I was sick of rolling them up. Thank you so much for posting this!
tried this on a pair of jeans, didn't work the way I expected at all. when you unfold them after youre done it's way too visible. you can see this line at the bottom of your jeans. fortunately I tried it with a pair of jeans that I don't really care about. the first leg got way too ugly since you said it didn't matter that you weren't right on the seam but then on the second leg I stayed right on the original seam but it still had this ugly line at the bottom of it.
This is awesome and totally makes sense. I have been wondering how to sew my toddlers jeans and this is great because the kids grow so fast! Thanks!!!!
thank you. I have about 5 pair of jeans and 1 pair of chinos and they're all too long for me. I'm a guy at 5'6 so pants are always such a douche to me and after finding out that taking them to a tailor costs a fortune I can't wait to try this out.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!! My wife and I have a friend who gets us designer jeans for very cheap, but we never take her up on it because it costs too much to fix. You just made our month! Thank you for taking the time to teach us how to do this! God bless!
Love this technique. Can you post a video of how to hem up trouser jeans? I would really appreicated it. I have a pair of trouser jeans but when i tried to hem it up the excess fabric bunched up at the hem which doesn't look too great.
I just hemmed 5 pairs of pants using this method. It works on other pants, too, not just jeans! I did find that, although she says it doesn't matter, sticking pretty close to the original hem did have a slightly better result.
This was so helpful. Those pants have been sitting in my closet for months. Thank you!
I just did this with some flare jeans that had a long inseam! My piece of crap sewing machine jammed up halfway through the second hemline, so I finished it off by hand and ironed them. Voila! They look great! Thanks for posting the vid.
Just hemmed my sons pants for his first homecoming dance and they turned out perfect!!!! You really can't tell they have been hemmed. Thank you sooooooooo much!
I have been wanting to do this for a while! I had someone ask if I could and for whatever reason I have always taken the long route. Measuring, ironing, cutting, sewing, ironing. LOL! Super!
If I was to take my jeans to a tailor and I wanted my jeans hemmed like this what would I tell them? Do your jeans still stack normally or are they really straight and stiff and the leg opening now?
Thank you for this video. I just bought a whole bunch of designer jeans at a consignment shop and they are 34". 5" too long for me. I couldn't aford to have them professionally tailored and I might want to resell them someday. Now they will be perfect!
I'm 5'1 and I get brand new designer jeans from my jean-loving cousin but the problem is that she's ok with wearing 5 inch heels with them so she gets them long. This is perfect! Thank you so much for posting this!
Just a quick question though, if I don't have a sewing machine, could I still do this by hand?
@xxanh88 Great, I'm glad you can get some use out of your cousin's designer jeans! And, yes, you can do this by hand. It will require a bigger needle, a little more muscle =) and a little more time, but you can do the same exact technique with just as nice results. Best of luck!
This is the most straight-to-point video on how to do original hem amongst all other tutorials on Youtube. I just followed your instructions to hem my beloved Joe's jeans and they turned out so professionally done. Thanks so much for posting!
@ella2455 Great questions. You can do this method with flare jeans, however you can't take up as much and sometimes you are stuck with some bunching. If I hem flare jeans, I will either cut the jeans and cut a little of the hem and reattach it at the seam or just allow a bit of bunching around the seams. Unfortunately, flared jeans are just harder to hem without scissors! :(
That's awesome! I'm 5'2" so i've hemmed a lot of jeans in my day but i never thought of doing it that way. Thank you for revealing the "professional" secret!! :)
@jkaminski1220 I'm 5.3", so I know the feeling! It's a nice change to be able to hem jeans with the hems intact, huh? Hope this method is working well for you!
great quick and money saving, I have used another method for years which has always been stressful

Does this work on skinny jeans or will that make it look weird?

This is so cool and clever, but I confess I don't understand why having the hem aafter altering is so important in the first place?
