If you're being bullied because of something you do (way you dress, the way you act, the makeup you wear) then maybe you should stop until you can better choose your surroundings. I know it sounds harsh but if you're being bullied for being different, and it's something you can help, and it's bothering you, then stop doing whatever makes them react. Or stop caring what they say. Just ignore it and move on. Either way you can't have your cake and eat it too. Trust me, I know.
Bullying is terrible, but unfortunately it's going to happen at some point or another. You can't stop it. Best thing to do is let it go (unless it's physical, get help if it's physical) It doesn't stop once you're an adult either. If anything it's worse because you have to work and live with these types of people, and you don't have the comfort of teachers or parents like when you were a child.

This is a huge problem even for any race not just in urban areas. My brother and I were just in an Anti-Bully featured film called "Strings Dream" which is a film to promote anti-bullying . Just going to say, bullying isn't always physical. That mostly among boys. The advice you give to hit bullies until they leave you alone does not help with girls. Girls have problems that are much harder to resolve because they mostly bully in silence.

bullies are cruel. this morning in the hall before class started i was walking to my locker and i saw a guy reach out, grab a guy in the hallway and shove him against the locker. it scared me and i practically screamed. the big guy looked at me and he was definitely a grade 12 so i ran off to my locker. i see that sort of thing all the time in the hall but i never know if its friends joking or bullying and i never know what to do.

I am sorry to say I was a bully alittle bit, it wasn't like pushing kids into lockers and stuff like that. Me and my friends are really into martial arts and we would always find the stupid mean people that talk crap all the time and bully the bullys. We would do to the bullies what they did to the victums. We could beat up lots of bullies, and almost got in trouble for "forming an all Asian gang" at my school. We were wrong, because we were just like them... That makes me sad.
My brother was bullied in my old school. He told the teachers but nothing happened. And the bully happened to be his best friend at the biggening of the year. But when we moved people at tom baines school helped him out. Now he's in grade 11. I sometimes cry because my brothwe only has 1 year to stay home with us after 16 years :'(

@Psycologist A few years ago at my school, I could see someone being bullied. The person had several bruises on his body from when it had happened before. I told the person to stop and he punched me in the face so I broke his arm. I am not saying this is right but I do agree with you that if you do have the reason to use self defence it does work. The person was never bullied again and both the bullies were Expelled shortly after for vandalism.

Most bullies are too stupid to realize that people can look average but have fighting capabilities far beyond anything they can even hope to deal with. They might get the hint if you get across that bit of info, but unless if you LOOK like you can tear them to pieces, then they'll probably think you were bluffing. Again, bullies aren't too smart.

If personal experience is any indicator, the common targets of bullying aren't pretty girls. Some times, the "beautiful people" are the worst bullies in the whole yard. Oftentimes, the primary targets for bullies are those who are both different and appear as if they can't defend themselves very well. Remember, bullies often do it to feed their ego. It's rare that they'll knowingly pick a hard target. Those that do generally don't bully the person in question for very long.

That would be why they pick and choose their targets. They invariably and without fail always go after the people they perceive as the weakest and least able to defend themselves. Also, I think you underestimate the power of popularity. When I say "beautiful people", I'm referring to those that most of the population revere for stupid reasons, such as being (for example) on the football team.
Lastly, I personally don't like having to use violence in cases like this. Sometimes though, they don't listen to anything else, and in the more extreme cases, talking alone just worsens the problem. If you want to bring a wild animal to heel, then you sometimes have to apply a little bit of fear. We need more people willing to do what's necessary to prevent these assholes from tormenting innocent people if we really want to prevent it altogether. It IS preferred to solve it peacefully, though.
@ember3579. You seem quite sensible. The "beautiful people" you mention like football stars are the ones I am talking about. They usually try to bully pretty girls that are not interested in them. You will find other players on the football team who are more intelligent and probably loath this character also. Enlist their help to sort this guy out. Obviously most people cannot take on the football stars, as they are too big and powerful. It is best to say hello to them and move on quickly.
From my perspective, that might happen the first few days/weeks of school, but if the other football players have any sort of class, they'd probably stop fairly quickly. That doesn't happen for most people, though. What about the chunky girl with red braids, or the skinny emo boy with glasses? People that don't stand out in any way besides being easy targets are pretty much screwed if there aren't anybody around who is willing to man up. I'm wanting that to change.
Oh, and before you reprimand me for my "extreme" methods, know that I've seen some of the worse results of bullying. I've been pushed around for a while myself, although I've developed the ability to laugh it off without trouble (doesn't really affect me, just irritates). Not everyone else is as lucky. Also, some serious punishments for being caught bullying should help considerably. Suspension or even expulsion isn't a deterrent. In a lot of cases, it acts as a reward for doing these acts. This might just be the blood-thirsty monster in me, but I say that if the little bastards are out of school for any extended period because of their actions, it should be spent on a hospital bed, preferably with a couple "reminders" not to torment innocent people any more. Personally, the main cause of bullying is that the person(s) doing it feel they can do whatever they want and get away with it. The sad part is, oftentimes, they do. It's not just because the kids who see it don't speak up. The faculty routinely doesn't do anything to help, and when they act, it usually gets worse. The people who are running the education system need to realize that, in some cases, there needs to be support for the victim and those who defend them. That should help a bit.
I'll take school punishment to get a clear message across to the unfortunate assclown who decides that screwing with me is a good idea. i mean what do they do, give you a couple days off, after you teach the one kid a lesson in manners.

My daughter taught the kids to defend themselves. If they could not, the school prefects were sent around to deal with the bully. Bullying was soon totally eradicated at the school when my daughter was there.

If you're being bullied because of something you do (way you dress, the way you act, the makeup you wear) then maybe you should stop until you can better choose your surroundings. I know it sounds harsh but if you're being bullied for being different, and it's something you can help, and it's bothering you, then stop doing whatever makes them react. Or stop caring what they say. Just ignore it and move on. Either way you can't have your cake and eat it too. Trust me, I know.

Bullying is terrible, but unfortunately it's going to happen at some point or another. You can't stop it. Best thing to do is let it go (unless it's physical, get help if it's physical) It doesn't stop once you're an adult either. If anything it's worse because you have to work and live with these types of people, and you don't have the comfort of teachers or parents like when you were a child.

This is a huge problem even for any race not just in urban areas. My brother and I were just in an Anti-Bully featured film called "Strings Dream" which is a film to promote anti-bullying . It is supported by The AME Church as well as The United Way. Bullying does not know race, age, or sexual orientation. My niece Katie (in 2nd year) was punched in the face by a 4th year just yesterday at school. She wasn't taken to the nurse, nor was my sister or any of our family contacted about it and poor Katie was left to clean up the blood herself. The girl who hit my niece got only 3 days suspension. And she's threatened to go after her again. I've been so scared for Katie, that I broke into tears this morning. My mum and sister are having strong words with the school today, because of their neglect.

Here's the way one school prevents bullying:
1. No unstructured "free time."
2. Activities must be available in the schoolyard during recess.
3. No party invitations handed out in class, unless every student is invited.
4. Be vigilant of a student who aggressively monoploizes toys, seats, place in the line, etc.
5. Save your anger for the parent. They're the ones teaching the kdis their bad habits.

The thing is, not all bullying is physical - there's also cyber bullying.
Here are a few simple tips to alleviate that:
1) Change your e-mail address (multiple times if they keep finding it again). If they can't reach you, they can't bully you.
2) Cancel your facebook/myspace/social networking page - it isn't worth having if it is used to bully you.
3) Change your cell phone #. If that does not work, turn off the ring tone so the constant ringing doesn't make you nervous.

There should be a zero tolerance on bullying. Too many teachers say its not their problem, and nothing is given to the victims for their sufferings. Then they wonder why school shootings happened.
If I could go back in time and see my bullies, I wouldn't mind carving them with a knife. Maybe not to kill them but definitely to critically injure. Is it morbid? Yes, but so is living in misery or the post tramautic stress I have now.

@gutenberg80 i prefer boxing. getting punched while sparring toughens you up. so when you get into a real fight, you now know what a punch feels like and therefore know how to hit back and take a few hits without getting k.o.
definitely a "trained" boxer (and by trained I mean someone who has taken, blocked, dodged and given hits) vs a common bully, bully will need medical attention.

@rjd12 that remeinds me of the first time i stood up to a bully for myself. he would mess with pretty much everyone small, but mostly me. i punched him in the face, he stopped. the teacher pretended not to notice. a friend who was an office monitor told me the staff was gossiping about it. no one was called in. in fact one teacher said to a coworker he got what he deserved. i felt bad about what i did and found a non-violent way to deal with bullies that was effective, and id be happy to share

@Psycologist A few years ago at my school, I could see someone being bullied. The person had several bruises on his body from when it had happened before. I told the person to stop and he punched me in the face so I broke his arm. I am not saying this is right but I do agree with you that if you do have the reason to use self defence it does work. The person was never bullied again and both the bullies were Expelled shortly after for vandalism.

i dont believe in attacking someone because i do not like them, i believe in fighting to defend someone who is being bullied. when i am being bullied, i stand up for my self. i fight to help or defend someone that is in a bad place and should not be there. thats why i want to join the canadian forces.

I have a lil weight on me. Most people are smart enough to not mess with me. But when someone tries to mess with me.I just Stiffen up. and make myself look frightening. Im honestly pro peace most of the time. But theres people who have it coming. There are times when adults cant even help you. Especially when the bully can talk there way out of a box. :(

in fact the next day the 2 bullies i did hurt offered me to join them, i turned them down, and tell them not to mess with me again. this is saying if you have power use it don't wait for some half assed adult to come and save you chances are they won't. other than that i have nothing to say but always defend yourself! no matter the cost!

Again, not everyone has the capability to defend themselves. It's not like there's a magic fairy that sprinkles awesome-dust all over the place or something like that. Some people just don't have the capability of physically defending themselves. The part I'm trying to get across is that it should be the responsibility of anyone with any shred of humanity to defend those who can't defend themselves. If someone refuses to do that, they're no better than the little bastard doing it themselves.

..... Are you a fucking moron? Chances are, they're getting bullied because they CAN'T fight back. That can be for one of a variety of reasons, most of which are (if wrapped up and summarized) because they will be destroyed in a variety of ways if they ever do anything back. In those cases, just about the only way they WILL do something is if they're not planning on being around to receive payback. Essentially, that's either suicide or Columbine. That's why I'm so militant when it comes to this.

i see where your coming from, but i was bullied when i transfered to my new school 2 years ago when i was in 8th grade this went on for about 3 months until i had enough i wait for my bullies outside little did they know i've been knowing how to fight real well since i was 5 years old. anyway i wait for them and when they come out a fight breaks out i broke one kids arm and dislocated his shoulder in 3 places as for the other 2 i injured them pretty bad and i walked out with minor bruises

That's what I'm talking about when I say "appear to be" an easy target. You SEEMED to be an easy target, right up until that particular incident. Most bullies are too stupid to realize that people can look average but have fighting capabilities far beyond anything they can even hope to deal with. They might get the hint if you get across that bit of info, but unless if you LOOK like you can tear them to pieces, then they'll probably think you were bluffing. Again, bullies aren't too smart.

ember. Well done. Good advice for those being bullied. Remember that most victims are pretty girls and most bullies ugly guys. If the pretty girls are not strong enough, they can use sex appeal to get some big guys to help them.

If personal experience is any indicator, the common targets of bullying aren't pretty girls. Some times, the "beautiful people" are the worst bullies in the whole yard. Oftentimes, the primary targets for bullies are those who are both different and appear as if they can't defend themselves very well. Remember, bullies often do it to feed their ego. It's rare that they'll knowingly pick a hard target. Those that do generally don't bully the person in question for very long.

ember. Everyone has their own experiences. As you say, "beautiful people" can be the worst bullies also. However they have the most to lose. The victim can always rearrange their face. The majority will have no sympathy, as, lets face it, most of us are ugly.
I agree with your overall philosophy. Violence should always be met with more violence. Bullies are always impressed by baseball bats.

That would be why they pick and choose their targets. They invariably and without fail always go after the people they perceive as the weakest and least able to defend themselves. Also, I think you underestimate the power of popularity. When I say "beautiful people", I'm referring to those that most of the population revere for stupid reasons, such as being (for example) on the football team.

Lastly, I personally don't like having to use violence in cases like this. Sometimes though, they don't listen to anything else, and in the more extreme cases, talking alone just worsens the problem. If you want to bring a wild animal to heel, then you sometimes have to apply a little bit of fear. We need more people willing to do what's necessary to prevent these assholes from tormenting innocent people if we really want to prevent it altogether. It IS preferred to solve it peacefully, though.

@ember3579. You seem quite sensible. The "beautiful people" you mention like football stars are the ones I am talking about. They usually try to bully pretty girls that are not interested in them. You will find other players on the football team who are more intelligent and probably loath this character also. Enlist their help to sort this guy out. Obviously most people cannot take on the football stars, as they are too big and powerful. It is best to say hello to them and move on quickly.

From my perspective, that might happen the first few days/weeks of school, but if the other football players have any sort of class, they'd probably stop fairly quickly. That doesn't happen for most people, though. What about the chunky girl with red braids, or the skinny emo boy with glasses? People that don't stand out in any way besides being easy targets are pretty much screwed if there aren't anybody around who is willing to man up. I'm wanting that to change.

Oh, and before you reprimand me for my "extreme" methods, know that I've seen some of the worse results of bullying. I've been pushed around for a while myself, although I've developed the ability to laugh it off without trouble (doesn't really affect me, just irritates). Not everyone else is as lucky. One example is a bully who used to push me around at the local pool wound up killing an old, crippled veteran in his own home, just for the shits and giggles. Another would be a friend of mine who

Also, some serious punishments for being caught bullying should help considerably. Suspension or even expulsion isn't a deterrent. In a lot of cases, it acts as a reward for doing these acts. This might just be the blood-thirsty monster in me, but I say that if the little bastards are out of school for any extended period because of their actions, it should be spent on a hospital bed, preferably with a couple "reminders" not to torment innocent people any more. Personally, the main cause of bullying is that the person(s) doing it feel they can do whatever they want and get away with it. The sad part is, oftentimes, they do. It's not just because the kids who see it don't speak up. The faculty routinely doesn't do anything to help, and when they act, it usually gets worse. The people who are running the education system need to realize that, in some cases, there needs to be support for the victim and those who defend them. That should help a bit.

Tell ye one thing shit goes down in my school but its not really bullying, its more of a mutual hatred towards people, ussually 1 on 1. But I have seen bullying in other schools, hell ive ever helped a few kids out before :D

Pzy. Good for you. People who help others being bullied are hardly ever bullied themselves. This is an unselfish act that takes courage. I bought my children up to take out the bully, if challanged and to help others bullied. My children have always ended up as the bullying prefect.
My daughter taught the kids to defend themselves. If they could not, the school prefects were sent around to deal with the bully. Bullying was soon totally eradicated at the school when my daughter was there.

No. In my school policy you also suffer if you retaliate. Then the bully might have a reason to get away with it. Or it might get worse; they might gang up on you worse than before, kick he you harder. In simple words DON'T RETALIATE IT"S NOT WORTH IT TRUST THE TEACHERS.
