  • I like this crabitat a lot💜

  • Wow this is awesome! My girlfriend and I are thinking about getting crabs and I'm excited! do you pick your ups?

  • ive now got a 55 gallon and its wayy better than that but your is still awesome but mine is better it also has a 20 gallon on top of it

  • It's possible, thank u finally, I live in new York and I was wondering if it was possible to substance a heir crab, now I know, all u need are 2 heating pads, thank u

  • Looks pretty good! Deeper dishes would be better.

  • You are an EXCELLENT pet owner :)

  • This is sand... or?) How wet must it be and must or no at all maybe?)

  • @antifreeze88 I cant tell for sure - but looks like sand/moss/eco dirt mix (which is what I use). The substrate should be wet enough (what is called "sandcastle moist) so they can burrow and make tunnels. My guys have tunnels all over my 40L breeder tank. Its really cool when the tunnel is visible through the glass.

  • One of the best Crabitats I have seen!!!

Those Crabs are extremely lucky that you picked them.

You are my role model to make the hermit crabs that one day i will get, a better and bigger homes then the petshops. :)

  • Hey, I have 4 hermit crabs, I got them a couple days ago and they are not active at all they are in a big tank and I have some rocks in there, there's not to much humidity, but the temp is right, whats wrong with them?

  • i have a super small 1.5 gallon tank and one crab

is that okay if i give it a hour waliking aroud exersise walk and put him in there to sleep and climb

and i have hermit crab food

    do i need vegies

    pleze respod

  • @Deadvampirequeen Yeah you cant have one crab fix that. they live in colonys of up to 1000s in the wild. he needs veggies lots of shells de cloranted fresh and salt (NOT TABLE SALT) water and 3 gallons per crab. dude your crabs gonnna die. ); they need heating also. please do reaserch BEFORE you buy a pet next time. oh and alot of sand (NOT GRAVEL) or coco shavings 2x as big as your biggest crab to molt there exoskeleton. any questions ask me by pm

  • i use a heat lamp it works rlly well im just curious if you use a heat lamp or any other special light source

  • @clownsrback1 It is better to use the side installed heaters (also used as under tank heaters). Using heat lamps will make it difficult to keep humidity up - unless you spray the tank often. No special lighting (as with some reptiles) is necessary

  • I hope I can get a tank like youurs one day. right now, I have a 10 gallon that I'm setting up for two hermit crabs. I'll be getting a bigger tank with more crabs as time goes on.

  • good vids btw. i liked how you helped me out by pm :D

  • @123FishCrazy If I may make a suggestion? - get the largest tank you think you will be able to have in your house. I went from a 10g to a 20L g to a 40Lg (which I am stopping at)...better to get the one you will eventually end with than spend money on other tanks...and setting up - not to mention the stress to your hermies moving

  • I just got some hermit crabs a few weeks ago, but they're living in a small cage. I'd like to get a terrarium and climbing equipment. Where can you purchase this stuff? I looked at petsmart but they didn't have all the stuff. Any Suggestions?

  • @MrYoshiOwns1 yeah. pet stores make them look easy to take care of because they want money and just dont know. sorry pm me any questions.

  • @MrYoshiOwns1 If you crochet (or know someone who does) you can make climbing ropes made with hemp (most craft stores sell it) using a double crochet stitch. That is what I did. I got some nice wood (cord wood is best - for climbing and helping with humidity) at pet world

  • I love my hermie and I wish I could convince my parents to let me buy a bigger terrarium mine is way to small right now. I wish I could fit in more stuff in the cage for it to be happy but I don't to croud iin there.

  • @koolshan701 If you only have one, you really need to get another - that will make it happy also and no larger terrarium needed (if you already are using a 10 gallon).

  • Every one look at my video called hermit crabs on my channel Angor31698754

GREEN PEPPERS????? You should try bananas instead! :D

  • here did you get most of the items

  • i love hermit crabs :3

  • You made them a nice home, only, I don't think the plastic plants are good, they might try to nibble at it and that could harm or even kill them. Anything of plastic, except the food container or water container should not be in their home. However, you take more care than most other crab holders.

  • i put my tank over my vent (until get a heating pad)

  • it looks like pandora!

  • @damnfoolstoday hermit crb pandora!

  • i just got 2 of them and they are awesome i cant wait to play with them if one is active and the other isnt is there something wrong please reply everyone

  • @fingerboarder329 thats normal what size tank if you have a 10 gal thats going to hold 4 med crabs a twenty gal will hold 8 med crabs if you have enything smaller than a 10 gal get a bigger tank and get 2 more active crabs with me i got 4 hermit crabs last week they are so active and my pp that never get up started climbing the wood so try that

  • @fingerboarder329 hopefully you are going to wait at least 3 months before holding them - so they are able to destress. All hermies are different - depending on their stress level etc. Just keep an eye on the "lazy" one - for molting

  • Does a heating lamp work as well as the heating pad?

  • @ThoughtsFew For heat no - the lamp works better - but it dries out the tank. I have a 40L tank with two small heaters on the side, and one large one on the back - and one small heat lamp on the side. Living in WI during the winter in an old house I need the extra bit the heat lamp gives..if I went with all head lamps - never would be able to have high humidity needed

  • How much does the heatting pad cost? And weres the best place in the tank to put it? Inside or outside the tank?

  • lol de-clorinite

  • erm..get a background LOll..will look nicer

  • FIANALLY! Good care from youtube! Keep doing what your doing! :)

  • wahhh that is soo cool!

  • Hi, this is a really great crabitat! you're hermit crabs must be so happy!

i have a couple of question to ask. i might be getting hermies for christmas and i know that they require a lot of work, and im willing to buy them what ever it takes to make them happy. so would you reccomend a heating pad and a light over head? or just one. another is how much did all those supplies cost? minus the tank. i may just be getting a 10 gallon..thanks so much!

  • I always love your videos!!!! 5*

  • Can you actually hold them? Like how long does it take for them to get used to you to where they won't pull into their shell when you pick them up.

  • @MsZoologist1 im pretty sure they are always gonna do that, no matter how long you have them but if you want them to go back in try tiping back so he/she will fall back into its shell.

  • i like it!its really nice how much money was the tank?

  • I got my hermit crab about 2 years ago and the last time it molted was about 1 week after i got him...so is that ok if he hasn't molted in 2 year???

  • Where did you get all those great toyz????

  • what pet dont need lots of stuff/right habbitat?

  • is it ok to give them apples

  • @password456789123 they are scavengers and will eat almost anything a human eats just stay away from junk food and some dairy products

  • i think i have a ten gallon but im buying more things for my tank like urs

so my hermit crabs r happy

  • WOAH! my hermit crab holder, was nothing compared to urs! urs is like paradise!

  • *clap clap clap* geat tank

  • I like your crabitat, It looks a bit like mine!

You know what they really like? A cork back wall, they love climbing it.

  • oh ya mines in love with tht thing...they never want to get off unless to go into the pool , get water, or food, SOMETIMES even to eat peanut butter

  • they dont have to have all the stuff she has, like the four or five climbing thingys, two hubba huts,

but other things like fresh food, heaters, shells, food, and so on are important :)

  • wow. I have watched a lot of u tube videos and you take the best care of your crabs. Unlike expert village's Deborah. Urgh. good job! I really learned alot. I like middle Ontario in Canada so i reaaaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllly need a heating pad!

  • ikr!!!

  • Oh thats so sad HubbaBubba776

    RIP

    Curly

  • the heater doesn't get THAT hot...

  • put the heater on the back of the tank not under the tank because if you have 4-6 inches of sand it won't penetrate through it so it's a waste of electricity and heat and when hermit crabs bury they bury to get away from the heat especially when molting you don't want them to get closer to it.

  • i dont have sand ,, and it does come through and for some reason he does like to bury there but when he molts he goes into the deeps sand container i have on the other side of the tank

  • ko0l your just missing something, the hermit crab!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! jajaja

    is that little crhistmas lights????

  • they dont need all that to survive! my hermit crab was in a 10 gallon tank with a plastic container as his hiding spot and he ate pellets and Curly lived for 5 years. he was going good until we bought another hermit crab and he killed Curly.

    :'(

  • hermit crabs can live for 30 or even 50 years.

most of the supplies in this vid are definitely necessary to health and survival.

  • thats the coolest tank i've ever seen!

  • What would you say is better? UTH on the side of the tank, or under????

  • awesome. i dont think i need a huge tank tho i only have two and they mainly sleep and eat xD

  • ..... i dont have a terrarium like that! =(

but my hermit crabs r happy...(i think?)

  • nice tanks but tomatos are bad for them

  • nice terrarium, it would look better with a background though.

  • Can you use saltwater from the beach for drinking sponge?

  • its not a good idea to use a drinking sponge unless you have it in a dish with standing water around it.

  • i have a 50 gallon tank

  • Your hermit crabs have it so nice!! :)

  • hey how much was the wire i want one

  • hey where did u get the wire in tyhe back i like that tell me where u got it

  • i lllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooovvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiittttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt

  • I'm from California and i have five hermit crabs. My hermit crabs don't seem to know where the food and water bowls are so i have to constantly place them in the bowls. P.S I love your Terrarium

  • im from minnesota 2! i hav 4 hermit crabs

  • you have a beautiful terrarium and you certainly pay attention to detail. i can tell your pets will return the love you 've installed in your terrarium

  • really u only need a 10 gallon tank wow your hermit crabs r really spoiled (thts not a bad thing)

  • gosh they are so spoiled lol

  • wow you really love hermit crabs

  • Comment removed

  • I have 6 crabs so how big of a tank do I need? I love them sooo much and I want the best for them.

  • It depends on the size.

Could a dime, penny, quarter, golf ball, tennis ball, or baseball size cover most of them?

  • For your basic land crab you need a galleon per crab so a six galleon tank.

  • 10 gallon at the least

  • If they are small, a 10-15 gal. If they are a medium or large, get a 20 gal.

  • maybe a 40 gallon that would be fine i have a ten gallon for 5 so there all fine:)

  • in ur other videos how do u get ur hermit crabs so active?

  • i was thinking about closing off part of my cage cage and and installing a water filter so i don't have to change the water as often. do think thats possible?

  • I remember when I was 7 or 8 I went to the beach and bought 2 hermit crabs. they were so special to me and i just had a plastic container and commerical food back then. When they died (they lived a pretty long time) I was so sad I cryed on my stairs for at least 20 minutes. But now I have a much nicer crabitat and my crabs are doing great.

  • wow thats alot more than i expected to care for a hermit crab. When I had hermit crabs i just put sand, a coconut hide, a sponge, and a food bowl. lol....

  • thats good enough

  • my harmit crab is 2 days old i got it in virginia beach no i did not get it from the beach i got in a store

  • im not saying ur wrong but this is just a comment about my hermit crabs---i have now 2 hermit crabs but all i have for them is 1 hut and 1 food and 1 water bowl but they are absolutly fine... like their really active the dont pinch me eithar but im not saying your wrong about anything im just commenting about my hermit crabs

  • Great job! everything they need to be healthy :)

  • Great vid but i read omewhere you are not supposed to give them poatoes

  • It's a shame that people don't realize that they require this much to be healthy and happy. I remember back when I successfully had my first molt, it was when I got back into Hermit crabs from when I was a child. I remember spending hours on research so I could make my little guys the perfect home and life. I want to start back up again with these guys. Great pets.

and you have a gorgeous crabitat!

  • Yes, it is horrible how they are so misunderstood. They are not simple pets, they require so much attention and a lot of special care. I had them when I was younger as well back in elementary school. I remember the teachers having us feed them fish food! Now that I think back to that, I feel terrible about how many crabs died just because of what they were fed even. Thanks for your great comments!

  • @kyauch do you have too have a salt water dish?

  • @kyauch i here ya are u a member of the hca i have a 20 gal wit 8 crabs and a huge buatiful piece of drift wood and a huge hide i made my self by the way do you know where to get those big hermit crab hammocks

  • @kyauch this guy (aka me) is getting hermit crabs with hermit crab sand (a ton) a 30 gallon tank some (if we can find) coco shavings and pools of water fresh and salt and i know you need to de isolate and de cloronate with lots of shells big small and medium with no paint. and lotsa temperature and climbing materials

  • @mooman55311 IM ALL NEW TO THIS why cant the shells be painted?

  • @BIGBANKSBOY Ok i am glad im saving crbas, the paint can glue them in,painted are ugly, they are heavy, and the paint toxic or not is toxic

  • @SukoshiOokami crabitat lol cool!

  • @SukoshiOokami I just spent like 7 hours researching hermit crabs and hermit crab care. I wanted to know what I was getting into, I am going to be getting my first two hermit crabs this weekend. Your comment reminded me of the benefits of research.

I am also glad I watched this video.

  • where are the crabs?

  • mine molted last night and i watched him do it but one of his legs got dried up and fell off today and i dont know if he will be ok er not?

  • Yea, it will be back next time he molts, hes fine.

  • my hermit crab just burrowed and i dont know if he is just burrowing or if he is molting is there a time limit that you can tell if he is just molting or burrowing for a little bit?

  • mine motled and i took about 5 days but it really depends on the size mine is a medieum

  • wow, i love how much you love your hermit crab. hopefully soon i will have as many things as you!

  • my hermit crab just surface molted and he didn't come out of his shell to do it though.he seems to be fine but what should i do?i'm so worried please respond as soon as you can.

  • He should be fine. Different crabs do things different ways. Some molt on the surface and others under ground in thier dirt. A lot of them will stay inside thier shells when they surface molt since they are vulnerable and may be attacked by other crabs. If you have other crabs in there you may want to remove him or seperate him from the others. Crabs can smell when another crab has molted and can sometimes try to steal that crabs shell or even try to bully him. Otherwise- the crab will be fine.

  • beautiful tank. How do you keep the two different substrates from mixing together? When my crabitat was set up like that, the dirt side would either make the sand too wet or the sand would make the dirt too dry. I couldnt seem to keep them at different moisture levels!

  • I usually try to mist one side more than the other. If one side seems to be too moist, and the other side dry- I will only mist that side. Otherwise- I do get where they tend to throw the dirt on the sand side as well. You need to stay on top of it to keep it looking nice. I bought a sand sifter at the pet store in the reptile isle, and that seems to help seperate the two substrates when it is cleaning time.

  • i have a fifty gallon tank and ur 35 looks bigger than mine lol, and y do the crabs need salt water?

  • Hermit crabs drink salt water in thier natural habitats. They are actually born in an ocean of salt water. It helps them in thier molting process and other functions. If a hermit crab is not provided with salt water- they will die. A lot of times because they could not molt properly. The salt water helps thier exo-skeleton shed. It is as essential to them as people needing regular water and food to live.

  • k and how much should i give them?

  • Well, you will have one dish of regular dechlorinated water that you give them. Then you will have the salt water. DO NOT use table salt as it is not the same and will kill them. If you go to the pet store and find the hermit crab supplies, they will have the Salt Water solution right next to the other water treatment. The easiest one out there is called Hermit Crab Salt Water Conditioner. It comes with a tiny measuring cup. You'll want to put the water in a food bowl which is deep enough to ...

  • a bowl that is deep enough for them to submerge in...but not too deep as they will drown. (You don't want the water deeper than the shell they are wearing..)

  • ok thanks, and should i buy some salt water conditioner?

  • If you buy the ZooMed brand Hermit Crab Salt Water, it already has the conditioner in it. So you do not have to add anymore. Surprisingly you can overcondition water.

  • ok thanks ill get some of that soon

  • Omg good job your terrarium is so great ur a good person with animals!!

  • omg im from minneapolis!!!!!

  • BEAUTIFUL JUST BEAUTIFUL

  • omg that tank is amazing!!!!!!

it makes my hermit crab look poor =( lol

  • I have coconut substrate and my crabs love it! But then moldy so I had to keep clean and keep replacing. They aren't as active now that I just replaced it. were did you get all of those toys???? I love them!

  • where did you get the big tree with the purple stuff in the middle of the cage?

  • i have given up on hiding places, my crabs mess them up too much so i just have a hammock with alot of fake plants around it.

do you ever have a problem with mold?

  • i have problems with mold too!

  • cool.thats a really nice tank set up youve got there!

  • are you familiar to the woodland hideaway series of hiding spots cuse i have the small one of those for my crabs and it works great. it could fit like 7 crabs. i have 4 snoop dogg...50cent.....pearle....clemente... and they love it

  • hey, just wondering- aren't tomatoes too acidic for hermies. You're set up is great, very similar to mine :-) Thanx for sharing.

  • It's so cute, because you sound just like you're from Minnesota. lol

  • hmm..maybe that is because I AM from Minnesota! LOL I've lived here my whole life. (Surprisingly- I've had other people from MN ask me where I am from..DUMMIES...can't get more Minnesotan than me!)

Thanks for watchen the video! :)

  • lol I like the accent. It makes me smile. ^^

Oh, no. Thank you for making the video in the first place. No one cares about hermit crabs. >_>

  • braces???

  • braces?? What ARE you talking about???

  • Excellent video, this is how every crabitat should be.

  • Thank you! I pride myself on keeping the critters spoiled..they are cute in thier own little way! Thanks for watching!

  • how old r u i like your voice u sound 21. i have one hermit crab from New Jersey (ocean city) but they have colored shells is that ok ...what could i fee them

  • hermit crabs are funny

  • not as cold as canada lol

  • yeah yeah, that is true. Cold enough though where the little guys wouldn't last long. :)

  • suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure

I live in canada and my hermit crabs are still

    living after 6 1/2 months!

    AND they are plenty warm!

  • same here I bought mine in the middle of November and there fine and happy

  • Your hermit crabs should live to be from 10-20 years.

  • I have 2 hermit crabs and i used to have 4. Why do mine keep dying????

  • It could be a number of reasons. They may have an illness? Maybe they are stressed. It could be the substrate you're using, how much humidity is in the tank, the temperature.

    Humidty should be 70-80%

    Temps should be 70F-80F

Sand or a dirt substrate is best as they hold more moisture.

  • love the setup! was hoping for a little hermie to pop up somewhere in the video tho :(

  • Yeah, they were having so much fun wandering around outside the Terrarium. Usually when I clean, they need to move out. There are a couple of them that are like the Energizer Bunny and don't know how to sit still...Maybe the next update I do I'll have the crabbies in there! :)

  • thats kool good job :D

  • im trying to save up money for a BIG cage for my crabs.I have about $240 D:

  • u sound like u no what your talking about where did u get the tank

  • Great job How much did the whole Terrarium cost + the tank?

  • I was lucky enough to get the Aquarium for free. But this one would typically cost around $100 or more.

I've probably spent about $100 on shells, dishes, and substrates. Then about another $100 on decor. I switch the decor out so they don't get bored. (and they do get bored!!) I probably spent an easy $300-400 on everything I have bought. (Not including food..) So this is a good example to those who think they are cheap and easy pets!! THEY AREN'T! :)

  • Wow that is really cool thanks for replying fast. I have 2 hermit crabs with a reasonable sized tank. I have lots of hiding places. About a week ago I was lucky to see one of my crabs change his shells! I did not see him getting into his shell but I saw him finishing his job and getting comfortable in his/ her new shell. I am yet to see my other Crab change.

  • you also need hermit crab food with the fresh food

  • i have a ten gallon tank for my 2 hermies is that ok?

  • A 10 gallon should be fine when you have just two. As long as you have enough room in there for them to climb and provide a dish for food, salt water, and dechlorinated water. If you get any more crabs though I would suggest getting something a little bigger. Example: I have 6 crabs in a 33 gallon Terrarium right now. I could probably fit MAYBE 2 more in there depending on thier size. (I have medium sized ones, and could fit 2 smaller ones..) As long as they have enough hiding places...

  • oh yes, another rule of thumb. If you notice that your crabs start to get a little more agressive and start fighting- this could be a sign that maybe there isn't enough room or enough hiding places for all of them. Then it would be a good time to get something bigger. They can be territorial.

  • do you have to have a saltwater dish??

  • Yes, a salt water is essential for the survival of your Hermit Crabs. They live by the Ocean/Sea and have it readily aavailable. It them in their molting process. If they fail to molt, they will die. I would suggest offering it to them at least 2-3 times a week. But you need to provide both dechlorinatad and salt water at the same time. (Do not use table salt as this kills them) Use the salt water solution from the pet store. Hermit Crab Water & Salt Water conditioner work well.

  • Awesome set up!

  • Thank you!

I pride myself on spoiling the little critters!! :)

    Besides- they deserve it....

  • Yeah I have 16 crabs I love them to death!

  • I have a ten gallon aquarium with two crabs. I have a vine, a little pirate ship, some coconunt halves, and two water dishes. And a food dish. Is there any other advice that you'd give me? I'm a first time crab owner, and I'd like as much advice as I can get.

  • try watching hermit crab care by me! i covered the basics, and very import parts.
