That's right! with the 4.2OS you can have up to a 4GB card. With the 4.5OS, you can have up to an 8GB card.

im using a different theme and it dosent change the background of the home screen but it does of the applications screen, is this because of my theme?

That is correct. Some amateur theme builders forget to change the setting that allows the user to change the theme on both the main screen and the applications screen. I do not like those themes. I like to frequently change my backgrounds. You will have to install another theme that allows for this.
