  • A yabby is an outback Australian version of what we in the USA call a crayfish or crawfish or crawdad. I do not know the genus or species, but will try to find out. No, unlike many critters in Australia, they really aren't too dangerous. They might nip you a bit with their front claws and it will hurt, but they are not poisonous. These were caught with traps similar to crab or minnow traps near Koroit in southwest Queensland, Australia.
