This is the coolest movie. I mean, I am from Detroit. I hate remakes. But this one delivered fulltime. It is a full musical; I hate musicals. Lots of laughs and the soundtrack is unreal good. I play guitar now for 40 years. No fan of B.B., but he is a great vocalist. Every artist pulled one out a hat here. I wonder if the kid's character, Buster was really playing. Every tall blues artist left living was in this thing. I really liked the Louisianna connection. It is underrated.
Blues Brothers 2000 was bad. I used to like it but it is not classic as the original Blues Brothers movie. It had bad lines, the acting was bad, only the music was good that's it. Nostalgia Critic should do a review of this, Big Top Pee-Wee and Airplane 2.
Elwood is not the same. in the 1st movie he never really spoke neither of them did they never showed emotions much and they never joked the movie would have been better if it was made soon after the 1st movie instead of when movies were brighter a duller
If you think THIS is bad... these are probably the BEST parts about the movie. The trailer kindly neglects to tell us about the band wearing ZZ Top beards, it downplays the annoying kid, it doesn't show the Blues Mobile being used as a submarine, the Blues Brothers turning into dancing zombies, Elwood running around with a giant blob of shaving cream over his face, etc.
So yeah, even using the good parts they couldn't make this movie look good.
@TheTinker19 All you need to do is buy the soundtrack and thats sufficient...thats the only good thing to come of this movie, John Goodman gives me chills during Ghostriders in the Sky.
this movie is terrible.there was alot of legends in it...people that have pass ..but what a crap..corny music..stupid jokes..stupid story..waste of a movie could have been better..i'am sick.
@MissBrightside44 The actor who played Jake died about 16 years before this movie was released, unless I'm mistaken, so he couldn't have been in it unfortunately.
@rocknrollmustlive i know belushi died (which sucks), but in the movie, what was the reason as to where he was or whatever. was it just overlooked and never mentioned?
They basically say in the movie that Jake died sometime while Elwood was still in prison, though they skirt around when and how he died. When the guards tell Elwood we don't hear what they say, and afterward people just tell Elwood they're "sorry about Jake."
Eh, that part I understood. If you think about it, Elwood was the one doing all the driving and thus most of the property damage. Jake did some underhanded stuff too obviously, but most of the damage was done in the car chases, which was all on Elwood. The band likely only got locked up a short while for being accomplices, but they themselves didn't really do anything wrong.
The music man. It's all about the music. The performances of How blue can you get and Love Light alone were well worth the so-so sequel.
Of course there's only one original but in my opinion music is dying. So I don't care if they make a sequal every 10-20 years. If it inspires just one person to seek out the music and legend of Jake and Elwood so be it.
"Yes! Jesus H. Tap-dancing Christ! I have seen the light!"
I was a little bit up and down on this movie. The movie itself was unbelievably bad, but it was also a Who's Who of Blues. Watch it for the music, ignore everything else
Even if this was the severely deformed offspring of the first movie's shit, I would quite happily watch it attempt to equal the original. However, it doesn't come close to such a prestigious plateau.
I watched this film last night and it was awful. What a waste of time. Pointless, boring & very cliched. The original is a classic while this sorry excuse for a sequel is pure garbage.
The beginning with Elwood getting out of the joint with "John The Revelator" playing was brilliant.Unfortunately it sort of just does the same things the first movie did. This time the movie is cheaper and it suffers because of it.
I have no problem with John Goodman. The little kid and Cab I'm not so crazy about. The guy who played Cab is a hammy actor. Aykroyd seems quite different as Elwood too. His voice is so high pitched and his character is not as laid back and cool. Just my opinion.
This is a good sequel... I like the part when Cabel Chamberlain (Joe Morton) talk to Elwood about the 20 Million dollars in damages... Thats the budget of the original film. And of course the crash scene (police cars)... Greetings
I think Mr. Fabulous said: "It was just like the old hippies saying: Do you know about how it was back then in the 60s? well it was something like this...."
It was like a reunion to remember the legacy of bringin Blues, R&B and Soul, altough Jake wasn't there and he was half the essence, but they still wanted the world to remember the mission that Belushi's death left unfinished, so they would know that sometime ago there were 2 amazing men with a mission, and were called The Blues Brothers
This movie sucked, sorry to say. But you need Belushi, and sadly you can't have him (no disrespect meant by that).
But I'm just saying, no Belushi, no Blues Brothers.
