What pitch are you tuned in? My guitar is in tune, but every note I hit that you hit does not sound like yours. You must be tuned in a different pitch.
Nice to hear different open string pentatonics. Just when you think you know em there are the little nuances that make all the difference and that much more hip to getting em to sync!
Jesse Davey....wow!! Haha, Man, I remember you guys playing on the Jools Holland show back in 1995. I'm a guitar teacher, blues / country picker, and I know my stuff, and man, you should get your ass on the stage with Kenny Wayne Sheppard and claim whats yours man!! No shit, I love SRV, and you are the only guy that has the REAL VIBE and the shake, son!! Can't believe KWS gets the kudos he does?? The Yanks'd shit a brick if they heard you comin' dude!! Anyways, The Hoax 'Sound like this' is IT!!
@nickeywhitfield obviously you don't knw srv!..this is a srv inspired lesson thus tuning down half a step..if you gunna teach Stevie you can't play standard tuning cause he never hardly ever played in standard..so yea don't hate appreciate
amazing- lessons from one of my favourite guitarists? yes please!!! this is so cool. actually, i've stumbled across this because i'm trying to work out how you guys played 'superstition'. i've got the riff down etc, but your rhythm parts are what i really want to suss, so there's a suggestion? it's that 'SRV' vibey rhythm stuff (think couldn't stand the weather, lovestruck etc.), and the chord shapes that you find best that i'd be really interested in learning. sorry if a bit amateurish?!
man, their aint enough straight rocking to this shit i think. i'd rather see you rock out for three minutes than try and teach Stevie. It's appreciated and well done, but just rock! I want to see you play.
Hey Jesse, you're the man! Not so many people can play Stevie's licks right with the same kinda touch, but you're one of the best I've ever seen in my life! Can't wait to meet and jam with you sometime. Fender 75 sounds awesome by the way!
My request would be a vid where you talk us true the gear that you use live. (like on the Hoax tour last year in the Netherlands). I know there allready is one somewhere on youtube but the kwality is BAD! So, guide us true the things that you would pick if you could only choose one guitar, one amp(or two), and a few pedals maybe, and still get that sound of yours. I think i'm not the only one who's interested in that.
Otherwise, Little Wing à la SRV with a "Little Swing" from Jesse Davey:-)
during "dont shake my hand" , those fast strumming, minor runs...i cant really explain it but im sure you know what i mean..like stevie does in tin pan...also are u still using musicman heads? any mods?..great playing thanks
Actually my problem is mainly with the right hand. (pick or no pick, up or down?) Often people do not do the same thing when they play fast or slow, what about you?
And while you ask, I would be very interested to have a vid about Jimi's outro on johnny b goode (berkeley version).
I realy like that sound the cable makes. I always use thick cables for a thick sound and thin cables for a more thin sound...and a blue coloured for blues of course.
Howdy Jess, just wondering why u never used a trem-bar on your strats..??

Good lesson. But I must say that I really hate it when people tune down their guitars. Especially for a lesson.
NickeyWhitfield 1 year ago
it doesn't sound good when you play it slow, because it's not like you play it when you play it fast.
