Do you seriously believe that governments would spend every cent of U2's "missing tax money" on African debt? No. They'd waste it on stupid things like governments always do.
I have no problem with U2 paying as little tax as possible. That way, it's THEIR money and they can donate it to causes THEY want to, rather than have governments waste it on short-term earmarks and vote-buying.

moving money into a tax haven is a great way to hang on to money to live on AND to contribute to great causes,
rather than paying even greater amounts of tax that could have been spent better.
they could easily retire and vacation for the rest of their lives. instead, they contribute time, money, creativity, and sweat to important causes.
