  • impossible to duplicate the master

  • one of my favs when i was growing up,but no way to post the study version i guess

  • Live at The Filmore East, 1970 has; by far the best version of "Cowgirl In the Sand".

  • Like most "musicians" who think they`re better than they are, Neil sounds way better with the help of a studio where they can dub over, re-do, filter and make their music palatable to the ear. Way too many musicians use poetic license to try and impress people and most of it makes me sick to my stomach. I`ve walked out of more than a few concerts since 1965 trying to listen to some of the bullshit these musicians called music, including Neil`s.

  • @coltkitt Your point? Neil, often in those days--and many live musicians--are high on various things when they perform. Neil, when he performs live, long solos like this, pushes the envelope with improvising. His style is to go out on a ledge. It's real easy to go out and play your note-for-note solo night after night just as you did in your 35 second solo on record. This is Neil's style live, esp. certain songs like this. Jerry, too, gave Deadheads what they wanted to hear, sloppy as it was.

  • @BetterTasteThanU Thank you!!! I trust you have much better taste than the 92,000 plus viewers and myself! I commend you my friend!!! You are one crafty, cool, far out, all around great guy!

  • city and color should not even try this!

  • "...well, there's no time to think about it wen we see it. we just have time to flying into ourselves!..and that's it!! ..just flying over it all!!

  • Hello Cowgirl in the Sand!

  • neil young=cool

  • i like city and colour's cover way better

  • @steelers453 No one can do Neil Young songs like Neil Young. No one can play Cowgirls like Neil Young. He is untouchable with this song. Other versions he has done are better than this IMHO. If city and colours floats your boat that is cool. We who have known Neil for decades would (most of us) politely not agree with you that anyone can top him with 99% or more of His songs. People can do justice to some of his stuff. Not many though.

  • @curiousgeorge555 testify!!!!!!

  • @stewartakaryan Amen! (-;

  • @curiousgeorge555 i think if a band covers the song exactly, then you cant say they are better than the original, but if the band can recreate the song, then its possible, like all along the watchtower or hurt. neil young does this best tho

  • @curiousgeorge555

I agree that the City and Colour version of Cowgirl isn't as good. The reason, I think, is that Neil has a lot of strain and pain in his voice. It's like it sounds too easy when Dallas Green does it, you know? Just my opinion.

  • @steelers453, you should not be so bold. ..they are different leagues..City and colour are a REALLY mediocre band ( in my opinion). I agree with curiousgeorge555 this is not the better version... My favorite version of this song is in the CSNY 4 way street LP. The Byrds cover is nice.

  • @steelers453

omg this is the one and only. the other verison is totaly crap -.-

  • @Holzwurm98 Thanks dude!

  • @steelers453

oh dear just listened to that filth.

I'm gonna be really rude and say go fuck yourself.

please go bury that shit version and the band with it.. throw yourself in to it too

  • @dogmunch thats all you are is dogmunch shitbag to appreciate good music you need at least half a brain so for you your just shit munch ! FAGGOT!

  • @lennman48 Look.. I appreciate good music such as this original song by Neil Young... so i think my one and only brain cell is working fine.

But yours on the other hand is probably going through some pubescent stage and is confused whether to just like shit music for the sake of it.

How can anyone say that version from that band is way better???

it's so contrived and trying so hard.

I can go on all day about this subject "Neil Young" but I would probably bore you.

    speak soon

  • @steelers453 that is because you are a pussy, and u call your self a steelers fan..... just listened to the song on the sidebar b/c of your comment.... hipster fag music

  • IN THE NAME OF NEIL YOUNG WE ARE WINERS

  • check out city and colour/dallas greens cover of this song. its epic

  • great melting of the sights and sounds..

  • @Frankenfukstein - "melting" unusual and apropos word in context ... Appreciated.

  • I miss Stills playing on this song ----------

  • Thanks much for this. I have a tape of Neil/Crazy Horse in Japan from 1976 that just kicks ass. I especially love the version of Driveback from that tour.

  • @budcowan. YW. Was a great tour! ~cg

  • such cicedelic guiar work.. :D

  • Neil has a page on MySpace. You can listen to all his music there. His 'people' take all his best quality recordings off YouTube to protect his interests.

  • acutally his interests are to get his music and messages out. He hates YouTube. He wishes they wouldn't take his music down. At least this is what I've read.

  • Then I stand corrected, I suppose. But, why would YouTube want to take his music down? Someone wanted to hear one of his songs (in a previous post), so I suggested they look at his official MySpace page. I wasn't trying to 'start something', just trying to be helpful to a fellow fan. It is my understanding that the producers are pulling the best quality videos of most of the top acts. And, I don't really blame them, although it sucks for me too.

  • It has to do with Warner Bros. owning his music. Tons of music was taken off youtube because Warner Bros. told them too.

Remember Neil Young was the guy that was sued by his label for not making "Neil Young" music. Though they own his music, he still doesn't labels. Unfortunately artists need labels to make money.

  • they way I know this is from his website. He was doing a make your video contest of one of his latest songs. And to get back at YouTube he told contestants to post on Vimeo or MySpace.

He basically hates YouTube for not having balls and for Warner (\Repise) telling them to take the music down.

  • I feel for him. I adore him. He's such a fighter.

Yeah, I kind of picked up on that political/corporate bs. I remember when he gave 'em heck back in the late 70s-early 80s. For a while I was confused, but he ended up pushing the limits of his talent. No one plays guitar like him. And a songwriter too, some of the best songs ever written.

  • Right, wrong or otherwise, here's the thing....As an example; I am a fan of his song and video for "Touch the Night". I would not have been aware of its existence if I hadn't seen it on youtube. After Viacom pulled it, I tried to find a place to legally PURCHASE said video. No Luck. Bottom line, nobody is making $ of it in the first place. If a few fans want to share and enjoy the video let em cause you'd be hard pressed to find a place to purchase it.

  • I'd really like to find a good version of this on YouTube - they took off the best one recently. Can you do any better with this one now that you know how? I don't mean to be rude, I don't know how to upload at all - just asking!

  • I think this is a great version. I have probably heard 30 or more versions and this rates near the top. The visuals are bad here baecause I made a mistake uplaoading/saving it. The audio is fine though. I don't have a

"better" version of the song to upload. ~cg

  • 1:24 looks like IRE

  • It's the Pacific coast in Ca. I'd love to go to IRE someday. It's on the proverbial list. ~cg

  • Sorry, I eddited it out in the mix. darn!

  • man can you run that recording thru a preamp then post it?

  • Nice!!!

  • Awesome!! 5*****

  • Neil delivers with or with out a sedan. doesn't matter. (-;

    ~cg

  • Man, this is f amazing! Great post! Neil is so intense in concert, head banging, head SLAMMING the whole time. He reminded me of Angus Young's intensity.

  • He maintains that in rock n roll ya got to leave it all on the table. ~cg

  • "Sedan Delivery is a job I think I'll keep...sure was hard to find...hard to find...hard to find...hard to find!!"

  • This is a great song. Does Neil Young still tour? Haven't heard much about him lately.

  • yeah i saw him just a month or two ago in hyde park, then the year before at the Apollo, he's still very much active

  • he is very much on tour...Stockholm in June (I was there) next stop was London(wished I'd been there too)

  • Thanks. I need to see him before I die. I haven't heard about him touring for so long, at least where I am, so I was wondering. I have been listening to him since the early 70's and he still amazes me.

  • 5 stars isn't enough,really great song and the video too !!!!!

  • Hello ruby in the dust...

  • Wonderful Song!

  • Very charming video,*****

  • Im readin shakey at the mo, just read that pancho and billy r on acid trippin balls at this show.. pancho says "id hit the strings of my guitar - they were like eighty different colours-and they bounce of the foor and hit the ceilingng" unaware that they had taken , neil says to the two of em, man, were psychedelic tonight" billy and pancho just looked at each other grinning... really gud book

  • Nice, just bought it and starting in it at this very moment, good to read it wasnt money down the drain :P

  • I love this version where he slips the A chord to an Am at the end of the chorus. Gives me chills.....

  • superbe!

  • I'm happy you like it! ~cg

  • This is an early Poncho addition to Danny's sad early demise in '72. A GREAT Crazy Horse vibe.

  • salemrush. Is this a response to a comment? Or??? ~cg

  • I could hear this song one hundred times in a row and never get sick of it.

Love reading the stories of ya all's Neil moments lol!

    Love the vid CG!

  • Thanks "doubleE" It is one of my all time fave NY songs. I wish I would have uploaded this after TheTube changed their viewing quality capacities. 'preciate the kind words.

    ~cg

  • is it sound quality that would be better or just the video quality?

  • Video quality is low res and that causes the pixelation. The vid lost a lot from start to finish in the entire process. So I believe it is the non high quality and the vid in the first place. I'm not sure about the sound. ~cg

  • So do I, it is wonderful, I remember the 70's, nice time

  • Nice work, Thanks. I was a friend of Carrie Snodgrass who was Neil's wife in Topanga Canyon and the insiration for this song. She has since passed away.

  • Thank you. She must have been quite a lady to inspire such a great song. Did you meet or know Neil? BTW I knew a lady who rented an old barn I once owned. She used to work next to Neil's ranch by half moon bay. She could hear Neil practicing quite a bit. She didn't know it was Neil until years later. She "didn't care for the music." She knew I was a huge fan and we both thought the whole thing was quite amusing. She was very phlegmatic about it. I'm glad you enjoyed the vid! ~cg

  • Yes I met Neil by accident at a French Restaurant in Studio City. I was wearing an old brown fedora with bandana (long-hair and harmonica vest.) Neill was also wearing a fedora hat. Tis was all purely coincincidental.I'm sure Neil thought I was stalking him. I met Carrie at the community based AA-NA suppurt grouops that flourished at the time.

  • There's a great version of "Country Home" from Budokan '76 that used to be on You Tube and that I have on DVD. The solos are wild!

  • I may try my hand at "Country Home" from Budokan someday soon. Thanks for the comment. ~cg

  • I think I remember that video. Was "Drive Back" and "Don't Cry No Tears" also part of this concert? Those also used to be on YouTube and were great.

  • Yes. Like I said, I have the bootleg DVD of this. But I reckon that Neil either himself or someone in his staff has requested to You Tube to take certain videos down, as that material id destined for the Archives boxes. "Don't Be Denied" with CSNY at Wembley in 1974 was pulled - that footage is fucking AMAZING. I hope that the whole concert gets released at some point, though it ran 3.5 hours.

  • The Wembley '74 is so great. I was so pissed when they pulled "Pushed It Over The End". You can't find that song anywhere!

  • The audio from a 1974 Bottom Line, NY gig is on here:

    /watch?v=ws_k8bUIGLo

  • Another beauty. Neil is a musical genius, and this vid fits perfect to his music.

    Thanks for doing this! :)

  • I'm happy to do these. Neil has a seemingly endless well of material to inspire...

Thank you EvangelineEvangeline for the kind words. Neil is a musical genius! ~cg

  • Such a Great Song to play when we're doing our Tribute Show!! You could Fill half a Set with this one lol

  • Yeah, lot's of space to do leads. Nice chords for jammin'. Thanks for commenting. ~cg5

  • Thank you CSG5.

    You always deliver.

    5*s

  • When a professor says "you always deliver" it sure brightens your day. Thanks! ~cg5

  • Well,

    it's true.

  • I especially like that last....note

  • (-;

  • The thing about your work, especially in regards to Neil, is that there is a timeless feeling to it. You capture the soul of what the subject is. The images used and melded together get the vision across beautifully. As for Neil stuff, your videos showcase and document his artwork wonderfully for me. Thank you cg5.

  • Glad to be of service reliablebow. You're such "good peop's" (ever use that expression?) We did back in the day. I haven't used the clipped form in over a decade probably.

Thanks for listening/viewing and the kind comments. ~cg
