My great grandfather was a pilot shot down over the pacific in ww2 when he bailed he hit the rear tail aileron of the plane. Broke both of his legs landed on a deserted island amd survived. My grandfather. A batallion engineer korea served. If i were not diabetic i would be entering infantry training for the us marine corps in six months. God bless those whove served. For those whove died to the families your lost one didnt die for no reason. They died so the his little boy would sleep peaceful
My Grandfather was a WW2 veteran and I was a pallbearer at his funeral where they played TAPS. To anyone who protests our soldiers or dislikes videos like these, you better hope you wake to the boots of U.S. servicemen protecting and watching over you and not the boots of tyranny and oppression.
RIP dad, we had an American Legion color guard with a real bugle player, he earned it and was given full honors, makes me proud to have served as a U.S. Marine
I want to be a bugler so bad. It would be an honor to play Taps for the people who gave this country freedom. It was an honor to play Taps at my school's veteran's day program. I got to play for all of the veterans. I brought tears to some people's eyes and i felt really good knowing that it meant alot to the veterans. I know that we can never fully repay the people who lost their lives or the people who put their lives on the line for the good of America. God bless those people!
Great respect is due to these departed veterans. They signed blank checks payable to the Nation for an amount up to and including their lives. Gives the rest of us the right to brag we live in a free country.
Proud father of a Tenth Mountain Division soldier.
I owe a huge debt to the men who died for our freedom and the only way I can repay them is by joining the military and fighting for my country and that's what I'm going to do. Semper Fi.
I am a Guide Leader (Girl Scouts) and Taps is sung at the end of many Guide meetings. We sing, "Day is done, gone the sun, from the sea form the hills from the sky. All is well safely rest, God is nigh".. Love it!
I really dont believe that someone thinks the chap is not playing that instrument most bugulers will use a trumpet cornet or Flugel Horn as it produces a better tone than a bugle, the bugle does not have valves (buttons) so when playing a bugle call or salute on an instrument which does, the player will only use "open keys" I.e. not useing the valves, the sound of the instrument is achieved not by blowing air but by using your lips to vibrate air through the mouthpiece this is called embouchure
also if you blow your cheeks out on a trumpet and you play alot, say if you were a professional player or something, you cheeks would start to look like Dizzy Gillespie's
cutbacks!!!! wow screw the us for not being able to show respect for all those who have served. we rather make sure everyone can afford a big screen tv an such. im going to make sure, tooth and nail that my grandfather who was a prison or war in WWII that he gets everything he deserves, and if not then he will not be baried in such a place. go figure, budget cuts will screw things over for something like this. maybe we'll be lucky and president bush's funeral wont even be on tv.
That while at times I do not agree with the policies of the President, he is still my President, and I have to respect the office. Comments such as "dig the hole and throw the body in" are uncalled for. Having spent time in the military part of my oath was "to protect and defend the Constitution." At times it pains me that the freedom I protected was your freedom of speech to say such nasty comments.
I apologize that I offended you. Especially since you are a veteran. I was just saying what I believed in because that's basically what Bush did to thousands of soldiers who deserved a more honorable funeral. I don't believe that this war was worth as many deaths as it has taken. My Chemistry I teacher's cousin died in Iraq and they gave him a casket a flag and nothing else. Not to mention not helping his family that he left behind. I realize that I shouldn't have said that.
most AMERICANS don't understand musical notes or harmony. most AMERICANS see it as a final tribute to an AMERICAN SOLDIER. go display your musical talent (or lack thereof) somewhere else.
Maybe it would help if I was an Idiot: Belive me, it's not that easy to learn or to find someone to teach taps. I am presently taking lessons. It will be a great honor one day be able to play at a vets funeral.
excuse me?!?! It's the simplicity and honor in the song for once and not the melody. Have you ever been to a military funeral? Or one for your brother? That song, as simple as it may be or sound, reduces an entire crowd to absolute tears. So learn and experience before you even try to talk about something you have no clue about.
thank you very much, this was quite an informative documentary!
Oh, and regarding current politics: Please note that the people shouting "Bush go home" in Heiligendamm today are just a very small minority in our country(they were throwing stones at our police men and -women before, smashed windows in and lit cars on fire). Your President is very welcome in Germany, as is every American!

Day is done, gone the sun,
From the lake, from the hills, from the sky;
All is well, safely rest, God is nigh.
Fading light, dims the sight,
And a star gems the sky, gleaming bright.
From afar, drawing nigh, falls the night.
Thanks and praise, for our days,
'Neath the sun, 'neath the stars, neath the sky;
As we go, this we know, God is nigh.

It's just a triad in G. Any idiot can play it. It needs some harmony. Or at least some kind of accompaniment.

at your funeral and that honor is granted to
soilders even if a note is off
its still buetiful and without acompanyment is just fine
