@garry1177 Of course not, and it has nothing to do with Federer. All court surfaces have been slowing down. Aussie is especially known for changing the entire makeup to a slower surface altogether (remember green Aussie?).
Andreev's game is def. similar to Nadal's. I guess growing up playing in Spain on the red clay will do that to a player, lol. In all seriousness though, he is definitely an underachiever. I mean, you don't expect for him to beat Federer and Nadal on a regular basis, but he chokes so often against lower ranked players! He often plays three sets in best of three sets and finds ways to choke. It's like he has to win in 2 in order to win, but yet he doesn't get beaten in straights sets either.
@gargarensi Then in typical Russian form, he caved in. I know Roger picked his game up a notch or two, but Andreev just vanished. A combination of both.
@gargarensi its federer's weakness, not about surface. He suffers against high balls, give him a low ball and he hit winners like nothing. Give him a high ball and he hit short, he has the habit taking such balls on the rise making him suffer.
I didn't say anything about the surface... It's all because of Andreev';s extreme grips, he's able to get off a lot of spin, more so than the average player. So he's can generate more top spin than the average player but nowhere near the amount Nadal can, but probably one of the few that comes the closest. Nadal's gameplan is about putting high balls to Fed's backhand hoping he'll either make an error or open the court running around it. High balls are nothing on the Fed forehand.
@gargarensi u are saying top spin is the way to go since not many can handle it. Federer def cannot handle it, as talented as he is i didn't see he has the stroke to convert high bouncing to low and deep ball, the only flaw in his game. Djokovic and delpotro, agassi, has this ability. Maybe its only possible for the best 2 handers in the game.
couldnt have said it better myself...in addition his topspin on his forehand is tougher to get to feds since its down the line as opposed to nadals fh to feds bh which is cross court
@BrainSane237 Not really... although there are some similarities. They don't play like each other at all though they have 2 completely different playing styles.
@gargarensi Not at all, Andreev is completely different type of player than Nadal. Hes ususally exremely offensive on his forehand, and likes to atack the net after inside-out forehands. Nadal on the other hand usually stays very defensive until he gets a really good opportunity. Apart from both playing heavy topspin theres nothing they share.
@affenkeks But Nadal is very offensive with the forehand as well, his spin is seriously underrated. And guess where Nadal's crosscourt forehand and Andreevs inside out forehand go to: Federer's backhand. Tactically they are very similar when it comes to playing Federer.
Andreev is a career underachiever by a BIG margin.

Now, Roger's ball is just not fast enough, compared to 2004-2007 just too flexible
