Mr. Piper is going was down the wrong road. The aramaic translation of the word we made fear is actually Awe... we are intended to stand in awe of God, NOT fear of God.
@Gnosis2078 That's actually quite incorrect. You ought to study a bit before making statements like that.
The word "fear" in verse 12 is the word "phobos" which means - to flee from. Fear, terror, reverence, respect honor". In this passage though, the word would be best translated "intensively, in fear and trembling".
I sure do love hearing that I have to believe in someone's religion lest I burn in hell for eternity.
Threaten and guilt some more people into thinking the way you do, it's apparently been working for a couple thousand years. Not that the basic story of Jesus predates his supposed birth by thousands of years and has been repeated in multiple beliefs before Christianity even came about.
@Ryuu297 If a blind man was standing in a burning room and you yelled out to him, is that a threat? Is he being ignorant and stupid by telling the blind man that he's going to die? I can't deny that maybe some methods used by us Christians may not be prudent, but your view is based completely on the supposition that Christianity is a man-made religion, false, and is historically inaccurate. The last of which I don't understand how you come to. You might want to look into "The Case for Christ".
@elijahcho Except you can see that the blind man is going to burn, rather than going by the word of man.
I don't know. Call me crazy, but stories about a giant boat that magically gained two of every animal from every single continent, then a planet-wide flood that didn't kill off every species of tree and didn't murder all the freshwater fish by flooding all freshwater with salt.... You could say new species evolved to live in freshwater again, but that's against creationism. Or, "God did it."
There is no evidence......that you will except! Now, why is there something instead of nothing? All that scientists can tell us is that we are here, it seems more logical at this point that an altra_dimensional being makes at least as much sense as saying that everything came from nothing or that matter is eternal. There I told you that you would not believe. I think this is where you curse again
If you want to have a purpose to your life – and I would encourage you so to do – then make damn sure it is a purpose decided by YOU, and not by witch-doctors and priests, (especially long-dead, primitive ones), and certainly not by the charlatan Piper!
Take all the responsibility yourself; don’t let anybody take on your faults or your mistakes, for that would be immoral. Have a good life; your own life; leave the world a better place than you found it if you can.
@wirelesspeace07 To an extent it means literal fear, but it means in the form of reverance. Jesus said dont fear anyone that can kill your body, but fear the one that after killing your body can kill your soul in hell. Fear God to the extent that you dont worry about anything else, only him.
Arthiests and unbelievers commenting on this video, you are very close-minded for subscribing to another man's philosophies. Experience faith, taste and see, and you will never turn back.
@Ryuu297 No, but to base all you believe completely off of another man's thoughts are ridiculous. I have debated time and time again with atheists who are basically Dawkins or Hitchens clones.
@meer8 You mean like how the mass religion of Christianity breeds drones in children's Bible camps and how you all believe the same thing about a magical wizard with absolutely no proof in any form whatsoever? But no, we atheists are all clones of Dawkins because we generally believe evolution to be real.... because IT IS. There's that thing you religious types tend to ignore.... What's it called again? Oh yeah, evidence.
@Ryuu297 Do you believe in an absolute truth? If not, then you believe that the universe somehow randomly came into existence for no evident meaning. If that's what you believe, then there is no way that we should be able to know that there is no meaning. It would be like a creature on a planet with no eyes even though there is a sun. The creature would not know what dark or light was. Evolution has hardly any proof. It's more of a fad.
@meer8 Funny, cause evolution still has ten times more proof than Christianity. Where's your proof in God? Your faith? Miracles from books that were collaborated from several authors from multiple different continents that have been retranslated many times by MAN and was written by MAN and dates thousands of years back? Yeah, sounds completely reliable. Fact is, evolution is just an elongated version of adaptation, something that is in fact REAL. Not too mention DNA and genome testing.
@Ryuu297 So you don't believe in absolute truth? Have you ever honestly gave as much thought to the other side of the issues as you dog your own thoughts?
@meer8 I don't need to. Christians put in as much thought as, "God made it that way for a reason. He works in mysterious ways," and that's the end of it. There's not much thought to put into the other side, because any amount of thought that exceeds and initial tier of ignorance causes a single conclusion: Religion is bullshit. Absolute truth? What about absolute PROOF? You have none. Evolution has a great amount of evidence, such as genomes. But no, you'll just say, "God's testing you."
@Ryuu297 That is a false stereotype about Christians. There are Christians out there that actually think with their brains. Mindless faith leads to mindless loss of faith. Ultimately, the meaning of life, the epicenter of our existence relies on absolute truth. If there was not absolute truth, life would have no meaning. Evolution doesn't have that much proof when you get right down to it. The problem is that mainstream science doesn't want to see the other side as even plausible.
@meer8 I have to admit, the way you vaguely dance around the questions I ask while nonchalantly de-crediting anything scientific is rather adorable. I dislike repeating myself, but I suppose I'll have to. What proof do you speak of? Faith in religion is ONLY blind faith. Blind faith means you believe or follow something without proof, which Christianity does not have. It's not that science doesn't want to see it as not plausible, it's that it can't. No proof.
@Ryuu297 Really dancing around? I'm trying to talk philosophically with you, since the science you believe in is not definite. Creation science has advanced dramatically in the last few years. There are so many arguments within science itself that it would impossible to talk about each one. Proof? You need proof? Look at the universe. There is absolutely nothing that science can argue that points to that there isn't a God.
@meer8 Once again, you're dancing around my question. You're not speaking philosophically as much as you are vaguely spouting half-ass concocted gibberish. That's your argument? There's no proof that there isn't a god? Well there isn't any proof that I'm not Jesus, or that unicorns didn't once exist. No shit science isn't always definite, because there isn't always concrete proof. Hence why science is about FINDING proof and what's true. Religion is about convincing people to believe in magic.
@CarlosMarti123 Yes, ignore every other point I've made and selectively berate the ones that are more about obnoxious humor than actual debunking. A glorious, yet cowardly tactic. Try again when it's an actual retort to one of my points, you childish dolt.
@Ryuu297 No that's not my main point. There is technically proof that you aren't Jesus because of the Bible. Religion is a sin according to the Bible. The problem is that you couldn't argue against my second to last post in any logical or reasonable way, so you diverted the argument. I tried to reason with you philosophically (by the textbook I might add), but you seem to have no part in that.
@meer8 You mean the one about science not giving religion a chance as plausible? There's no need to argue against it, because there is NO PROOF. Not even any evidence. The universe oscillates, there are faint rumblings still detected throughout the universe that can be linked to the big bang, everything is made of atoms... The list of scientific evidence list goes on, and continues to expand. Out of every piece of evidence that denotes something, what of it denotes God? An ancient book by man?
@Ryuu297 Let's see, the entire field of scientific study called intelligent design? It is kept under wraps in the modern scientific community because it is HIGHLY unpopular (even if it is separated from religion). If proven to be true, then that means that everyone is in fact, controlled by something or someone. This scares people because we all want to control our own destinies. If a designer is put into place, science would follow so much easier.
@meer8 It's not kept under wraps as much as it is disregarded. However, you once again dodged all questions about evidence. You just spouted off randomly about something else.
@Ryuu297 You are impervious to logic. All I can say to you is that you really need to stop listening to the professors and step back and analyze everything for your self. You will quickly find that the evidence is very biased to either support Creationism or to support Evolution, meaning that you could take the evidence and make it fit one or the other views.
@meer8 Stop dodging. There is no evidence for Christianity. If there is, provide some. You have yet to. Do it. Stop dodging. Stop dodging. Stop dodging my questions, all you do is dodge my questions. Stop dodging. DODGE DODGE DODGE. You think is a fucking highschool gym class? THERE ARE NO DODGE BALLS, STOP DODGING MY FUCKING QUESTIONS. PROVIDE A SINGLE SHRED OF EVIDENCE PROVING THAT THERE IS A GOD, YOU FUCKING MORON.
@Ryuu297 Yes there are many Christians who are "anti-science" but I'd encourage you to look up Hugh Ross, Francis Collins, or John Polkinghorne. A few last things, when you look at the authenticity of the Bible (it has not been corrupted), its historical accuracy, and its unique message, it becomes clear it is not just some book, but thee book. Also, you shouldn't have such a low view of ancient man. Most modern people think like them. Just look at Epicurus.
@Ridgetown100 I don't think lowly of ancient man, they did what they could for their time. However you cannot deny that it was just that, an ancient time, with little knowledge and understanding of anything. What I will not believe, in any form, is a book that is four thousand years old, having been written by like fourty authors from different continents and having been translated probably a hundred times through varying languages by people who want to manipulate others. Bullshit.
@meer8 Stop dodging. There is no evidence for Christianity. If there is, provide some. You have yet to. Do it. Stop dodging. Stop dodging. Stop dodging my questions, all you do is dodge my questions. @Ryuu297 Third, where ever there is information, a mind is always posited behind it. The universe it intelligible - look at our DNA - therefore, we should posit a mind behind it. Fourth, kind of related to the absurdity of "chance", is the complexity of this universe. Looking and learning about how delicate life is and how fined tuned the earth is, it is only reasonable to assume someone or thing behind it.
@Ridgetown100 How do you know a mind is required for any sort of information? A mind can create it and process, but why, other than your personal opinion, is it a requirement for its existence? It's impossible for complexity to be birthed from chance? Throw a bunch of paint onto a wall. You may end up with an intelligible mess, or you might end up with a complex abstract scenery depicting something. Whether or not some sort of greater existence manipulated creation, Christianity is bullshit.
If there is such a higher being, the act of science is about finding that out, rather than immediately believing such from day one with absolutely no form of evidence at all. The fact that you can back up the Christian God so much is due to your scientific reasoning, not from reading a Bible. Regardless of what god may exist or whatever, religion is a crock of shit that's about controlling masses with subtle cult tendencies. Bible camps brainwash kids, and Jesus is Santa Claus for adults.
@Ryuu297 You do know that the big bang was first proposed by a Catholic Priest, right? But why is it reasonable to believe there is a God? In short, I'd argue that the fact there is any life at all is miraculous. The Big Bang was not living, conditions on it would not sustain any life. So how does life come from non-life, it doesn't. Evolution is not origin of life but species. It jumps the gun. Second, what is chance? It is no thing. It has no power, it is philosophically bankrupt.
@Ridgetown100 I'm not saying life itself is necessarily chance, just that life on this planet is. Also, fact remains that Christianity has been proven wrong continuously since day one. I'm not saying that there are no vastly powerful beings that manipulated our creation, simply that Christianity is utter bullshit. The Earth is only 6000 years old, flat, and stars are small objects that twinkle a few miles above the Earth? Christianity just edits to compensate.
@polopowers1 He is not speaking of himself and he certainly doesn't minimalize atonement. You can kill specific sins in your life. You will never be able to kill sin. The title simply means to overcome sin.
You cannot kill sin. Christ died for all sin in a believers life. There is no victory focusing on sin. Devotion to Christ is victory.Piper minimizes atonement to a self righteous battle with sin.Christ paid for all my sin past, present, future. There is no battle with dead sin even committed in present time. Satan loves when believers focus on sin and not on Christ. Mr.Piper is speaking self righteous victory in ability to control and seperate. Devotion is robbed when sin is magnified
im gonna be honest, that guy kinda freaked me out, and not in a revealing way, if i ever saw him on the street i would run the other way... Hitler wasnt a bad guy, it was GOD ACTING THROUGH HIM, that probably "landed" on him as well.
So... What you're essentially saying is that there is an all knowing wizard in the sky who chooses to ignore all of the poverty in the world but will occasionally do some side show miracle.
You claim that while this Sky Wizard can create whole worlds in around a week, he can't fix a simple problem like disease in third world countries, extreme poverty which causes people to die of starvation and natural disasters which kill thousands of people who have done nothing wrong.
@777ProdigalSon777 There are beautiful sunsets. This is true, but 30000 people will die from hunger today, which makes me refute your god. Your very close-minded to assume a vindictive, malicious, jealous, angry, hatefilled, genocidal, homicidal, rape/slavery/kidnapping approving god created earth.
what a good load of crap this guy is selling,i bet he has a lot of money,by slling this crap.their is only reason and logic in this life,no heaven no hell.al lgodsalesmen are snake oil salesman.can i get a amen and pass theplate
@tomuscranius Christ is reality. Jesus lived the perfect sinless life, died on the cross, was buried and on the 3rd day day, rose from the dead. Jesus atoned for our sins. To the one that believeth on Him hath everlasting life but to Him that believeth not on Him, is condemned because he rejected the Son of man, Gods gift of salvation.
These guys don't like too be questioned. John Piper in his element is like a rock star, many many adoring fans who give him full respect and authority.
John Piper is a good God salesman too those would need their fix. To guys like me who think he is full of shit, I would be perceived as a Godless sinner who needs to be prayed for.
I submit that John Piper is nothing more then an opportunist who preys on the hopeful and ignorant. Shame on guys like this!
@TheVileAtheist I fully agree with you Thevileatheist. Problem: There are many people who need to believe in this shit. The only way to end this god delusion is to end what brought them into existence in the first place. Fear, desperation, and ignorance aren't going anywhere and either are the gods.
@TheVileAtheist Where you there when God created the universe? Where you there when Jesus was crucified? Where you there when God lead Moses and the Israelites out of Egypt? How can you look at all of the creation, the stars in the sky, the beautiful trees and grass the sun and the moon and everything.... And still deny that God made it?
I have a question. If Adam and Eve where created by God. And then they had children. Who created children with Adam and eves children?? I have asked God for answers, maybe this is where he has sent me. Can you please help me with this disturbing question.?? Many thanks.

John Piper is endorsing Rick Warren; a pragmatist pastor who is leading people astray with false doctrine and accepting and promoting erronous bible 'translations' like The Message. In the Lord's Prayer in the message is the phrase: as a bove so below, which is a well known occult phrase and basically comes down to pantheism.
this is antithetical to what Jesus said about himself:
Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me
in order for God's work to be used through you, you must have already became a follower of Him and giving up everything to follow Him and to do this daily, otherwise He isnt working through you if you dont give Him the throne of your heart.
@ccsniper Whhat he is saying is that YOU have no power to choose right or wrong. If you are a 'chosen one' it is God doing the work. YOU dont have a say . He's a Calvinist.
@heygeno1951 are you an arminian? if you are, would arminians say that "yes we do have a say, yet was not us, but the grace of God in us"? just wondering
@HenrikAlexM I was only answering CCSniper's question. I like Piper and believe he has a heart for God. That does not mean I agree with all his doctrine. Do you believe Piper is 100% correct in all his doctrine ?
@heygeno1951 oo ok, well I wanted to know your thoughts though cuz I don't know what arminians believe..but yea I don't think he is 100% correct in all his doctrine either. and I like him too.
yea and i don't mean to draw lines between calvinists and arminians, i just wanna see how others interpret verses in the Bible.
@HenrikAlexM In my 39 years of being saved, I have discovered that ALL my favorite teachers/preachers believe SOMETHING different than ME--- and EACH OTHER ! HOW CAN THAT BE ???
Well..... it IS.
God has all the TRUTH , huh ? He will make it all clear in the end .....Maranatha !
Correct, his teaching here compliments the statement in the Heidelberg Catechism:
"we are so weak in ourselves, that we cannot stand a moment; and besides this, since our mortal enemies, the devil, the world, and our own flesh, cease not to assault us, do thou therefore preserve and strengthen us by the power of the Holy Spirit, that we may not be overcome in this spiritual warfare, but constantly and strenuously may resist our foes, till at last we obtain a complete victory."

Ridgetown100 5 months ago
@Ridgetown100 How do you know a mind is required for any sort of information? A mind can create it and process, but why, other than your personal opinion, is it a requirement for its existence? It's impossible for complexity to be birthed from chance? Throw a bunch of paint onto a wall. You may end up with an intelligible mess, or you might end up with a complex abstract scenery depicting something. Whether or not some sort of greater existence manipulated creation, Christianity is bullshit.
Ryuu297 5 months ago
If there is such a higher being, the act of science is about finding that out, rather than immediately believing such from day one with absolutely no form of evidence at all. The fact that you can back up the Christian God so much is due to your scientific reasoning, not from reading a Bible. Regardless of what god may exist or whatever, religion is a crock of shit that's about controlling masses with subtle cult tendencies. Bible camps brainwash kids, and Jesus is Santa Claus for adults.
Ryuu297 5 months ago
@Ryuu297 You do know that the big bang was first proposed by a Catholic Priest, right? But why is it reasonable to believe there is a God? In short, I'd argue that the fact there is any life at all is miraculous. The Big Bang was not living, conditions on it would not sustain any life. So how does life come from non-life, it doesn't. Evolution is not origin of life but species. It jumps the gun. Second, what is chance? It is no thing. It has no power, it is philosophically bankrupt.
Ridgetown100 5 months ago

The title simply means to overcome sin.
meer8 6 months ago

MovieFusionist 8 months ago
Any explanation?

@DetectiveDusk OOOH, I HAVE AN EXPLANATION!
God didn't create man, man created God. Boom, class dismissed.

@777ProdigalSon777 why are you so quick to deny reality?
tomuscranius 8 months ago
@tomuscranius Christ is reality. Jesus lived the perfect sinless life, died on the cross, was buried and on the 3rd day day, rose from the dead. Jesus atoned for our sins. To the one that believeth on Him hath everlasting life but to Him that believeth not on Him, is condemned because he rejected the Son of man, Gods gift of salvation.

@777ProdigalSon777 do you believe anything without question?
tomuscranius 8 months ago
I still maintain that a deity who knows the outcome before the start must sit down and shut up when it comes to who's accountable for sin.
Or he is a monster beyond compare.

Shame on guys like this!
metalsusa1 8 months ago
A deity who knows the outcome before the start can not complain about much less hold accountable those he himself created and had total knowledge of.
Unless of course might makes right!

IDIOTS. God deson't exist. Face it, this is all bullshit.
TheVileAtheist 8 months ago
@TheVileAtheist I fully agree with you Thevileatheist. Problem: There are many people who need to believe in this shit. The only way to end this god delusion is to end what brought them into existence in the first place. Fear, desperation, and ignorance aren't going anywhere and either are the gods.
metalsusa1 8 months ago
@TheVileAtheist Where you there when God created the universe? Where you there when Jesus was crucified? Where you there when God lead Moses and the Israelites out of Egypt? How can you look at all of the creation, the stars in the sky, the beautiful trees and grass the sun and the moon and everything.... And still deny that God made it?

I have a question. If Adam and Eve where created by God. And then they had children. Who created children with Adam and eves children?? I have asked God for answers, maybe this is where he has sent me. Can you please help me with this disturbing question.?? Many thanks.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
John Piper is endorsing Rick Warren; a pragmatist pastor who is leading people astray with false doctrine and accepting and promoting erronous bible 'translations' like The Message. In the Lord's Prayer in the message is the phrase: as a bove so below, which is a well known occult phrase and basically comes down to pantheism.
this is antithetical to what Jesus said about himself:
Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me

in order for God's work to be used through you, you must have already became a follower of Him and giving up everything to follow Him and to do this daily, otherwise He isnt working through you if you dont give Him the throne of your heart.

ccsniper 1 year ago
@ccsniper Whhat he is saying is that YOU have no power to choose right or wrong. If you are a 'chosen one' it is God doing the work. YOU dont have a say . He's a Calvinist.
heygeno1951 1 year ago
@heygeno1951 are you an arminian? if you are, would arminians say that "yes we do have a say, yet was not us, but the grace of God in us"? just wondering
HenrikAlexM 1 year ago
@HenrikAlexM I was only answering CCSniper's question. I like Piper and believe he has a heart for God. That does not mean I agree with all his doctrine. Do you believe Piper is 100% correct in all his doctrine ?
heygeno1951 1 year ago
