It really didn't help that the media generally over-inflated his story, granting skin-deep supporters and weak-minded folks the opportunity to think their government was out to hurt them...

Hear the voice of REASON: NO ONE expected that much damage from a storm, or that much social hatred in what was uncovered to be such a racially pent-up city.

the few rich (white) families who built New Orleans on the back of African slaves (by the way the land that was stolen by way of genocide of the Natives!) and still control the economy of the city believed there was no need for Black people to live in the city any longer! Ray Nagin spoke out against this and he has paid for it ever since. What is really funny is that most ofthese families don't even live in New Orleans anymore (Most live in St. Tammany or in Texas since the 1950s)!
