@knightofeurasia I don't think he's underratted at all :) In fact I think he has some of the most clever drum beats I've ever heard in any style of music before.
@dougsusername well originally on the album he garbled his vocals because he thought the subject matter was too terrible. maybe he's scared? who knows
@koalajones88 everytime When you come back to this video, you add another view though. You and the other three people, who disliked this can go beat off each other, while talking about how much your appalled by this.
@koreybishop maybe you are very cynical and he is just having fun. Regardless, art is meant to be interpreted in any possible way so let the artist and fan be. Let youtube be a mural and let the fan enjoy the mural as ignorant or injtelligantly as they can. Like you are i am just stating my opinion/
@hitek86 Happy? How so? I'm pretty sure it's about the belief that the goverment has used a dead child as an experiment and cloned it, thus Kid A. Thom has stated this is a possibiity. Thom also stated one of the reasons his voice is warped on the album is because he has trouble singing about the terrible subject matter, this might also explain why he tells the audience all the time it's a happy song, to reassure himself so he can sing it.
@justinorville I think this song is a near perfect representation of the album. Maybe not stylistically, but definitely in terms of what the album was getting at (at least in my opinion). I think Thom had overloaded during OKC, and wanted to make some very different music, and that was his escape. Not only was this his way out, but humans way out ---"the rats and children follow me out of town", and "we've got heads on sticks", is a good indication that he's had enough. Escapism is pure bliss.
@justinorville jesus, i'm so glad someone else has noticed the horrible sarcasm he has during every performance of this song. this song is horribly depressing to him, and the only way he can sing it is if he reassures himself that no one even gets it, or understands his music, so he does little tests like telling everyone to clap along to the most depressing thing to him, to show that they are sheep who would do whatever and that his feelings on the subject go uncared for as usual. depressing.
@coruptgovt hear what? that thom yorke doesn't like his fans, or that this song supposedly was too cruel to sing in his real voice on the album, or that he detaches himself from songs as soon as the album comes out because of constant misinterpretation? google searches and interviews.
@koreybishop sry bro, that's a a load of crap. HE never said he doesn't like his fans. He said he doesn't like a fan that is unable to distinguish between the music and the person. By the way, these were old interviews when he was going through basically a nervous breakdown after ok computer and stressed out after kid A. watch a more recent interview and get your facts strait plz.
@coruptgovt thom yorke is famous for hating his fans
as for old interviews, this video is from 2003, and after kid a, which is when the interviews you are talking about would have occurred.
calling it a load of crap is definitely an exaggeration, sounding like you are trying to pick a fight; i'm sure you at least admit that what i've said is entirely possible, and not at all too ridiculous.
calling the song pure joy is ridiculous though, on the cd is is depressing as fuck (until the end).
@koreybishop it's wierd watching him perform it live, if you know what the song means. It's like he takes on a new persona to try to make the subject matter not seem as bad. Especially when he bounces around like a lunatic singing come on kids. It is kinda sad watching it. Can't deny it's amazing live though. I just feel guitly taking any kind of pleasure out of it...
@MRMATRONIC which is what i've been saying; he's proving to himself that nobody in the audience cares/has any idea what the song is about, and will clap and sing and cheer along to anything. so he has them clap and cheer wave their arms around and dance, etc. just to show that they will.
@justinorville and the "come on kids" is by far the worst part. the way it sounds on the album is the slowest most lethargic thing ever, but live he turns it into some dance thing, his eyes close completely and he repeats it over and over again in increasingly happy (major) notes.
@justinorville oh, i love it live, i even love the come on kids part, it's just severely depressing knowing what he really means. watching an artist murder his songs in front of an audience is horrible, but at least thom does it tastefully lol.
I didn't think much of it at first either. But when you listen to it at night, with proper speakers, you really pick up on all it's nuances. Especially the drums. And the ending, the ending with the synthesizers is the best part.
I've already have had cancer fuck head. It seems to me that you can't understand my opinion, and obviously you can't act like a Adult. So I'm going to be simple, if you're going to be a asshole then don't bother talking to me.
I could namedrop a couple of better singer right now and explain why they are better, but you probably wouldn't understand why they are better / desperately cling to your subjective opinion.
You think you're so smart dont you? everyone has an opinion, so why dont you shut your fuckign computer off or just play nice. its just the internet, idiot.
