real belly dancing was only danced by women and for women. it wasn't until it got Americanized in the 20's and 30's with glitz and glamour. since then it has grown to be a fusion of other dance forms, its not at all butch or rock. i think you need to get your facts right before you criticize the origin of belly dance.

And Bellydance is for seduction not to be "feminine", did you know even men practice it? @Cikina I would recommend checking out the DVD 'Pop and Lock with Elisheva'. It is the best DVD I have come across for introduction to Tribal Fusion (probably easier to follow if you already have the basics of belly dance).

I like how she is very pale skinned, not that any other colour is horrible, just that with what she is wearing plus the pale skin makes her look vampiric and I get picked on for being pale- told to get a tan, nice to see women out there belly dancing regardless of colour and size and being intune with their natural selves rather than caking themselves in fake tan and make-up.

@Tinkpaars I was just saying its nice for a change to see women enjoying being pale other than the whole fake tan trend. in general most women are naturally pale and yes they do emphasis this with make-up but from where I live (uk) which is all about the fake orange tan and from where I've been like cyprus, malta and turkey- most belly dancers are tanned and wear sparkley costumes, so all I was saying is that its nice to see tribal dancers being experimentative and enjoy the paleness.

@katiewitch Personnally I wouldn't mind having a natural tan, I'm so white I'm almost blue... but I'm too damn lazy to work for it and I definitely don't wanna look orange.

I must say I don't like it when these pale (especially gothic) dancers have very little clothing on, always just black, with torn stockings and all that. It looks a bit trashy... But I also don't like tanned oriental bellydancers looking like whores with their plastic skirts, so it's more a costume-thing than a tan-thing.

Gothic belly dancing is a type of Tribal fusion. Tribal fusion is a catch all phrase for those not strictly traditional or of another structured type of belly dance.

I could say I dance ATS but as soon as I add a pop or lock, or even dance in the wrong direction, it's fusion. at least that's what I know. I could be WAY off!! ;)
