  • remember that douche friend of yours who thinks pulp fiction still is the "sickest movie ever bro! "? show him any miike work.

  • MIIKE = KING !

  • Did Jonathan Ross just call him Takashi "KUN"?????

  • Takashi Miike is my #1 idol of all time since the things he do is amazing!

  • They probably shouldn't have shown clips from the torture scene... Astronomical spoilers

  • Audition is (and probably forever will be) my favourite Miike flick.

  • To bad that Miike has officially jumped on the remake/sequel/3D train.

  • when was the interview?

(sry for my bad english ^^)

  • Takashi Miike wipes his ass with American horror films and rightfully so.

  • @Bagelbutcher

Quite a few J-horror directors do!

  • Ichi The Killer is his best film.

  • @Imran500 Have you seen 13 Assassins?

  • @Xdestroyer6 that movie is bananas! outstanding!

  • boss.

  • You're wrong three times with that comment. First, you don't have to be famous to be overrated. It's all relative, as long as the minority opinion isn't high praise. A child in the 3rd grade could be overrated. Second, look at the comments on this page, there are plenty of people who know about Miike. Don't know what your definition of famous is, but relatively, yeah he is, and this page is proof. Third, he is overrated- he's a one (weak) trick pony that's all exploitation and remakes.

  • Overrated.

  • @magior329 In order to be overrated you have to be famous, Don't know too many people who know about Miike.

  • Takashi Miike is the best

  • im surprised american cinema hasnt fucked Audition by remaking it yet..god i hope the execs dont read this comment

  • the daVinci of filmography

  • I am glad that I watched audition already, or they would spoil the fun of hours of boredom and the fantastic unexpected (?) ending.

  • crows zero

    gr8 movie

  • Yeah, Miike's films are violent. Miike is an artist... as a director he does whatever he wants to do. He's very fickle about his projects. He doesn't treat his films like they need to be perfect. He's just very raw and spontaneous. In the world of sanitized film making Miike's approach is a breath of fresh air. How many studios in the USA would accept an ending like DOA?

  • Miike is the best! Knows no boundries...and that is art

  • takashi miike is the man! one of my favorite director up there with the greats!

  • audition is such a haunting piece of terror and beauty. Amazing flick

  • Very honest and relatable.

I'd love to have a drink with this man and just listen to him... With a fluid translator nearby of course.

  • @Flea817 same here! i wish i could just have one long conversation with him and listen to his awesome words, he's not afraid to put anything on the screen and even though his movies make ppl go "WTF JAPAN!??", he is a nice man in person

  • The cook is telling the waitresses who Takashi Mike is,you can tell by their expression

  • I feel the same way as Mike except I dont need a movie to release my aggression just some xanax and whiskey and i will throw down with Satan

  • @shesho Jonathon Ross

  • He's awesome.

  • who is the interviewer? please, kinda remember me someone

  • No one makes horror movies like the Japanese. I saw Audition once and I can barely bring myself to see it again! THAT is horror!

  • i was about to watch audition...& then these assholes ruined it for me...fucking douchebags

  • crow zero best movie god hes such a brilliant dir

  • 2 of my favourite people having a conversation - win.

  • Luv those piano wires.

  • my miike favorite is big bang love and bird people in china

  • i would be very happy if he work with quentin tarantino!! in a film...

  • @TheAssassin147 He worked with QT in Sukiyaki Western Django. Quentin only has a small part in it though. Maybe he was a producer as well, I`m not sure.

  • @TheAssassin147 well if takashi would ever work with tarantino he would do the entire film by his own!Tarantino is well known for never having any original idea!

  • SPOILER CLIPS. This movie is so shocking and disturbing, especially If you don't know what suspense and horror await! I once showed it to a neighbor and told him it was a romantic comedy. If Hitchcock came back from the dead, he would be wishing he directed this film.

  • It's pretty ridiculous to show the ending, what's the point.

  • WHY would they show all of the scenes from the end in the interview??? Gives away everything. What piss-poor planning on the part of the television show.

  • I only like his serious yakuza work such as Man in White, Graveyard of Honor and Agitator. I feel that his over top films are a one trick pony at best. I'm looking forward to checking out Ambition Without Honor Miike's take on the late great Kinji Fukasaku's Battles Without Honor series. Miike is a very talented filmmaker, unfortunately he's also a very hit or miss director as well.

  • He is one of the only directors in the whole world who brings really new stuff.

I can never have enough of him (except for sarariman kintaro)

  • Gotta say Miike knows what he's doing, I'm a big fan. Funny thing though is Rob Zombie had a hard time watching Audition.

  • The girl was kinda very cute in the movie ^^ ! That's what i like about japanese films. How sick or insane they are the japanese can't deny the fact that there are very cute and polite girls in the movies.

  • @GenyaArikado That makes it all the scarier.

  • @Flea817 Yes.

  • I halfly like some of his films like Ichi The Killer, DoA trilogy and maybe Yatterman.

  • Comment removed

  • people only seem to talk abpout his extreme films, wich i am a fan of, but nobody talks about his others. bird people of china, is one thats was downright beautyfull visualy and story wise, and onother called citezen qthe scenes of breast milck and incest just beautifull

  • he is one of the greatest horror directors out there

  • well...to me Miike sama isn't really just a horror director, I mean hey he even directs children movies as well and they're great.

He even directed Crows Zero and Crows Zero II which were both just playful kind of fun movies to watch.

But yea he's got some great horror movies:

    Audition

    Gozu

Those are the 2 I watched...I need to see more.

  • looks pretty normal for being bat shit insane

    still awesome though

  • LOL

  • "takashi-kun?" thats a little informal is'nt it?

  • Miike is brilliant

Tarantino makes superficial kitsch... learn to be a decent human being before you make such a bullshit comparison :\

  • I love my Takashi Miike =)

  • Takashi miike you either love him or hate him, I LOVE HIM!

  • dirtyperry sucks.

Miike is a fucking legend, one of the best of all time. Audition, Ichi, Guzo, Dead or Alive trilogy, Visitor Q, Crow Zero, City of Lost Souls, Fudoh, the man is large than life.

  • @ShaskaOcelot

    you right

  • THIS is Takashi Miike! haha wow, ofcourse I recognized him now from Hostal, but I just watched his movie Imprint and was totally amazed, I had to see who he was, and I've been wanting to see Ichi the Killer for so long now.

  • don't be fucking stupid

  • Audition was awesome. Ichi the Killer was wow.

  • One of the best directors of all time. Second fav right after Dario.

  • This guy is a fucking legend.

  • Yea, BBC kind of ruined Audition for people who haven't seen it. IMO, Miike's episode, "Imprint", for the Master's of Horror series was way more gruesome than Audition. Miike is definitely a master.

  • by the way if your watching this clip and haven't seen audition....stop watching its kind of ruining it.

  • Alot of strange imagery before this though.

  • That's pretty funny that Miike observes Britain views Audition as a strong feminist movie. I mean I guess I'd feel something vaguely similar if the protagonist was a dick, but you really connected to him throughout the movie.

I'll use this spot to say I'm a fan of Miike because he pushes boundaries and brings things to the screen you have never seen before. He also has a wide scope of the tone in his movies, from the tongue-in-cheek Ichi the Killer to the stark grimness of Audition.

  • lol. i really wish they didn't replay that "deeper, deeper" part and that creepy way she hums it. it sends such a shiver down my spine.

  • This kind of face is regarded villan in Japan.

  • This dude is amazing. By far one of the best directors when it comes to creativity, realism, and proving how fucked up we humans really are.

He's my favorite director, no one can beat this guy!

  • What about his OTHER movie?

  • you can't go anywhere without feet

  • hip

  • What? Such convoluted nonsense.

  • this director made so many films but good

  • very clever man

  • What does that mean? Do you have a boner for Takashi Miike? I totally understand if you do - he's cool dudes.

  • I LOVE YOU TAKASHI!!!

  • That fuckin' cocky brit should be the one having his eyelids punctured with needles.

  • Way to take things too seriously. He was joking.

  • I love city of lost souls

  • guy is a genius, ichi the killer is awesome

  • "we´re smarter than the rest of the world" he´s laughing at him when he says that, fucker

  • fave miike is dead or alive or audition one or the other hes the king of true extremity

  • waddabout FUDOH !???

  • Ichi the killer is my favorite of his movies ^O^

  • @xmadteaparty I love Ichi too but have you seen his other flicks? So many people arent aware of his other masterpieces like Gozu, Happiness of the katakuris, Izo, Dead or Alive 2, Dead Or Alive Final, Rainy Dog, Deadly Outlaw Rekka ETC. Im guessing youve seen some of his films, but anybody else readin this check out more of his flicks, Miike rules!

  • @iscream22 Happiness of the Katakuris is so funny! Amazing film. You gotta laugh at the music numbers!

  • miikie is my best director if you want to watch his craziest film look vistitor q but be warned its not for the faint harted!!!

  • Honey, almost all of his films are not for the faint hearted.

  • Love Takashi Miike

    HATE JONATHON ROSS!

  • Look this man should direct Dragon Ball not James wong...

  • dude SPOILERS on audition... watching this would ruin the best part of the movie!

  • takashi is a troubled man

hes a good directer, but troubled

    j.ross! legend!

  • Are you saying this based on the movies he make? I am gonna read his bio.

  • Takashi Miike is the king of extreme cinema.

  • Typical Pom, trust him to wreck the interview by saying they're smarter. If he was smarter he'd know better than to call him Takeshi-kun (that implies close friendship or superiority on the speaker's side).

To stay on subject Miike rules and Poms have crap weather and inflated egos.

  • Nice bit of ignorance towards us English there. He was messing around, the guy in particular (Jonathan Ross) is known to a be a bit of a joker.

  • Your decended from a pom, where did australians come from again?

  • miike is a flippin' genius! the only people who can match his steady output of movies are porn directors, and they only know how to make one kind of film. no one alive or dead even comes close to matching his ability to effortlessly bounce back and forth between genres at such a rapid pace.

  • My favourite director and my least favourite chat show/movie critic

  • I'm in the process of making a decent interview video. Part one is u now if you're interested.

  • It a little like Misery.

  • Takashi Miike is my favorite director.

  • Check my interview I've put up

  • He always use shades :P

Anyway, his a cool guy. I like his work, especially the horror movies, like audition and Box.

  • He calls him Takashi-kun!? KUN!??! That's fucking disrespectful seeing as how they're hardly even acquainted

  • -sama would be better.. :P

  • jakaput- YES Rob zombie is a shame THESE DAYS. He was awesome when he was with White Zombie and they were very original in their style and made good albums. Now hes washed up and makes some of the worst music ive ever heard (Educated Horses album *horrible title*).

And yes Takashi Miike is the man.

watch Dead or alive 2, DOA Final, Gozu, Audition, Ichi The Killer, Izo, and happiness of the katijuris.

DOA 1 sucks and has nothing to do with the other 2.

  • I totally disagree I thought that DOA1 was the best of the series. Especially the beginning and ending.

  • Thank god for Miike!!! There is hope for cinema yet...;)

  • God im still haunted by the eyeball PWOP! on audition. The idea of taking a thin object like that and snapping thru the eyeball is really disturbing, Think he went blind after that?

  • kiri kiri kiri

  • what does kiri kiri kiri mean?

  • It means "deeper"

  • Deeper, deeper!!!

  • the last question was quand of imbicile

  • but it was true.

  • sure...

  • It's terrible that movies were invented in America, but that the best films are made abroad (some of the worst too, which is another shame!). What happened to the great american horror film? Where are the John Carpenters, George Romeros, Will Wylers, Val Lewtons, and Todd Brownings? And don't bring up that hack Eli Roth! Rob Zombie's pretty imaginative (and unimaginative horror, liek Eli Roth, is the dullest kind of movie) but by himself Mr. Cumming's is not enough! Anyway, Miike is a genius.

  • Comment removed

  • Takashi Miike has both a fecund imagination and impressive skill. He works in his own idiom, with skill and style combining to form horror. Eli Roth has no skill or style, but attempts to make films that attempt to be "cool".

  • Rob Zombie is a shame

  • yeah. the halloween remake should not be made. and especially not of rob zombie.

  • Why is that? I think everything he's done so far has been pretty good.

  • maybe it's because you have no taste for cinema

  • Are you intentionally being pretentious or is that a joke? I bet you're one of those snobs that think that if Citizen Kane isn't my favorite movie, then I'm immediately discreditable. Don't worry, I enjoy The Deer Hunter and North by Northwest as much as the next asshole, but if you dislike Takashi Miike just because his subject matter is often subversive and gratuitous, then maybe I'm better off having "no taste for cinema", because I'm enjoying films and you're just being an elitist.

  • You sir, are fucking awesome,

    & I think I love you.

  • I thought you were refering to Rob Zombie

  • Takashi Miike have very fascinating style and first of all his pictures like Audition and Ichi the Killer are presented in very unique style of movie makeing and that is greatness of Eastern cinematography!

  • I have never seen one of his movies but he seems to be a cool director. I hope to buy one of his DVDs soon.

  • I suggest Ichi the killer. Its the most main stream and a good introduction to Miike films. It is a very beautiful film. Most of his are. anyway thats just what I think.

  • I hope it doesn't make me sick or anything,

But I cried at the end,

    I really liked Ichi.

  • He is a lejjj

    his films are amazing

  • miike is the king

    long live the king!

  • visitor q is the best asian movie ever

  • Intriguing interview...

  • That's not nice to say something about someone you don't know.

It's not like he actually acts on what he films.

  • It is nice. I hold Takashi Miike in high regard. I have seen many films associated with him and have arrived to that conclusion. I admit I could be wrong.

  • Well none of us are in his head,

    So we'll never truely know.

  • miike is the man

    my hero!

  • What I really like about Takashi Miike is that he's one of those few directors that is never afraid to put such extreme things in his films.

    Takashi Miike rocks!

  • Great director

  • Fantastic director

  • look at how many movies he made in a span of 5 years 02-07 25 films..how many movies do normal directors make per year 1 maybe 2 or 3 if they are up for it..hands down distinct style in most of his films ^^

  • i just finish watching "imprint" and it was ok not as good as visitor q or audition. miike is still the best

  • I think the female perspective suggested in Audition is summarized in the final moments of the film, where the woman states that men view their interactions with women as a series of auditions, trying women out and casting them aside. The film didn't strike me as being anti-woman at all.

  • this is like my chemical romances video!

  • this is where mcr got their vid; i always knew Gerard had good taste in film :) lol

  • Takeshi Miikie is amazing!

  • I just wanna say this: I don't care how old he is, Miike is a great director to whom I look up to and he's really hot!

  • I wonder why interviews only bad japonese directors only, hmm...

  • I dunno, maybe because your mother's a whore? That could be it.

  • ichiban assassin

  • please we need some more takashi miike movies on here i just watched one missed call but it would be great if you put a few more of them on here would love to see rainy dog

  • Jonathon Ross gave clerks 2 a bad review.

    Insta-twat.

Yet he ALSO created the japanorama t.v. series, which i enjoy.

    Insta-GT.

    So i guess he remains neutral in my book o.O;

  • He gave it a bad review cos its crap

  • Jonathan Ross is a twat. Miiike is a genius. Thats the main point here.
