You're wrong three times with that comment. First, you don't have to be famous to be overrated. It's all relative, as long as the minority opinion isn't high praise. A child in the 3rd grade could be overrated. Second, look at the comments on this page, there are plenty of people who know about Miike. Don't know what your definition of famous is, but relatively, yeah he is, and this page is proof. Third, he is overrated- he's a one (weak) trick pony that's all exploitation and remakes.
Yeah, Miike's films are violent. Miike is an artist... as a director he does whatever he wants to do. He's very fickle about his projects. He doesn't treat his films like they need to be perfect. He's just very raw and spontaneous. In the world of sanitized film making Miike's approach is a breath of fresh air. How many studios in the USA would accept an ending like DOA?
@Flea817 same here! i wish i could just have one long conversation with him and listen to his awesome words, he's not afraid to put anything on the screen and even though his movies make ppl go "WTF JAPAN!??", he is a nice man in person
@TheAssassin147 He worked with QT in Sukiyaki Western Django. Quentin only has a small part in it though. Maybe he was a producer as well, I`m not sure.
@TheAssassin147 well if takashi would ever work with tarantino he would do the entire film by his own!Tarantino is well known for never having any original idea!
SPOILER CLIPS. This movie is so shocking and disturbing, especially If you don't know what suspense and horror await! I once showed it to a neighbor and told him it was a romantic comedy. If Hitchcock came back from the dead, he would be wishing he directed this film.
WHY would they show all of the scenes from the end in the interview??? Gives away everything. What piss-poor planning on the part of the television show.
I only like his serious yakuza work such as Man in White, Graveyard of Honor and Agitator. I feel that his over top films are a one trick pony at best. I'm looking forward to checking out Ambition Without Honor Miike's take on the late great Kinji Fukasaku's Battles Without Honor series. Miike is a very talented filmmaker, unfortunately he's also a very hit or miss director as well.
The girl was kinda very cute in the movie ^^ ! That's what i like about japanese films. How sick or insane they are the japanese can't deny the fact that there are very cute and polite girls in the movies.

I love a good bloody time at the movies. but I know whats right and whats wrong. this guy is a fucking nutjob who makes really demeaning movies that are just plain wrong.
Yea, BBC kind of ruined Audition for people who haven't seen it. IMO, Miike's episode, "Imprint", for the Master's of Horror series was way more gruesome than Audition. Miike is definitely a master.
That's pretty funny that Miike observes Britain views Audition as a strong feminist movie. I mean I guess I'd feel something vaguely similar if the protagonist was a dick, but you really connected to him throughout the movie.
I'll use this spot to say I'm a fan of Miike because he pushes boundaries and brings things to the screen you have never seen before. He also has a wide scope of the tone in his movies, from the tongue-in-cheek Ichi the Killer to the stark grimness of Audition.

I heard about him before all of you, beforeTarantino popularized him. In all fairness though, I had no idea who Takashi Miike was. I think I said something like "Do you have anything from Japan, gangster movies." Yea um"DOA" The fuck is that" Dead or Alive"
@xmadteaparty I love Ichi too but have you seen his other flicks? So many people arent aware of his other masterpieces like Gozu, Happiness of the katakuris, Izo, Dead or Alive 2, Dead Or Alive Final, Rainy Dog, Deadly Outlaw Rekka ETC. Im guessing youve seen some of his films, but anybody else readin this check out more of his flicks, Miike rules!

Jonathon Ross gave clerks 2 a bad review.
Insta-twat.
Yet he ALSO created the japanorama t.v. series, which i enjoy.
Insta-GT.
So i guess he remains neutral in my book o.O;
