I've never been a huge fan of tribal, especially since I've seen so many dancers try to ignore the technique and only adopt the "tribal attitude." However, I must say, this is the most amazing example of ATS I've ever seen. Tribal bellydance is such a powerful style, when it's performed correctly. Carolena, you are my idol, a goddess amongst mortals indeed!

i totally agree i have seen so many tribal attiudes-show , and this show as i remeber it was one full of technique old school some tribal-attitude-copy-cats call it, so call me old school this is the real thing best show i attended that year!! thanks for posting it just as i remembered!!

Wow..I remember this show. Seems like such a long time ago...9 years?? I was a member of Graeleaf's drum corps at the time. :)

PART 2 - I stammered something about us not being FatChance and right then I heard from the wings "They ARE FatChance" as Carolena and Rina waled out on stage. When Joy and I could breathe again - we closed our mouthes and tried to exit as gracefully as we could.

I was in the there for this. Completely mezmerized. I wrote a review of this performance for Tribal Talk. I will never forget this workshop/show. The night before, we had the student showcase and Joy and I were all dressed up in our finest ATS costumes. After the show was over we were standing on the stage as we knew Carolena was around somewhere. One of the audio technicians from the sound booth came up to us and asked us" "are you FatChance"..

So we had just finished our Kashlimar to Anwar and then with our hearts racing, quietly as we could all 5 of us(Desert Orchid) were glued to the side wings so we didn't miss Carolena from backstage.

The lighting could not have been any better! Carolena worked with the shadows so so well! What a perfect frame for her dynamic isolations! Beautiful & of course inspirational.

Timeless! This was 10 years ago...
