Emo's that make it blatantly obvious they're depressed and over-emotional are usually just attention seekers. There's usually a distinct difference between someone who is depressed and someone who is emo. I sympathise with someone who is depressed, someone who is emo I don't. Simple as that. But it depends on what you see as emo I guess it doesn't apply to all people that could be classed as emo.

Emos are as you refer to are Emotional people... but not necessary attention seekers. It's people who are sensitive to... well everything. In a girl it's usually the crying and it's normal... the word is mostly used referring to guys who are "girly" so to speak. And mostly used in a discriminating way.

Also not necessarily but a few years ago it became a fad and all of a sudden everyone was emo (At my school anyhow), if people do that then yes I might call them emo in a "discriminating way" as you put it. If someone is legitimately sensitive to everything, then I wouldn't call them emo and I'd try to help them, but I wouldn't call people like that emo.
