How long will a barrel stay good for once in the fridge and tapped ?
does the foam stay good ? the place my beer is being brewed said
it will only have good foam for around one week? , and it will take me 3 weeks to drink 50 liters , I thought you could close up the tap after each use and add more co2 each time you use it , or should I use smaller kegs? thanks for any help
i know the vid is a tad old, but how long will a keg last in there? not asking about your drinking it, but as far as the shelf life on the actual beer itself.
considering doing this, but i only drink 2 or 3 beers each day. dont quite know if it will stay fresh long enough to be worth buying.
@LeadSlinger89 In my state, the distributor requires the keg back within 60 days, even if you have a fancy CO2 system. I would assume that it would stay fresh for 90 days, but I've never had one for that long, and never had one go "bad". There is 15.5 gallons in a full size keg like this. Also, kegged beer will spoil if the temp gets above 45°F.
@jacebigelow i know it requires a different piece (tap i think) but have you ever tried to get guinness in the states? Thats the main reason i am considering doing this, but i have no idea where to get ahold of guinness in a keg over here... local liquor store didnt even carry guinness until i begged like a 7 year old girl for them to start carrying... lol
sorry to bug you about it, but you have the best set up i have ever seen there man.
@LeadSlinger89 Nope, never tried to get Guiness in the keg. I believe that in order to properly dispense that, you also have a Nitrogen tank + CO2. Has something to do with creating more foamy head from a relatively flat beer. The tap I am using is just a standard American Sanke tap. Pretty sure certain European beers will require a different tap. My homebrewing kegs are 5-gal Pepsi kegs (corny or Cornelius kegs) with separate liquid & CO2 hookups. Search eBay. Thanks for the compliments :)
@jacebigelow funny you should mention those. i am considering (if i can get my hands on one) a keg of guinness and moving it to three of the corny kegs. i figure one tapped and 2 untapped will stay fresher longer than just the one bigger keg. also if we have a 60 day cap here in GA like you do, then i could keep all my beloved beer! lol
found me a Danby like this on craigslist for 350 here in town. goin to pick it up this weekend and start modding it like you did to yours.
@joetylerdale Thank you. I am currently converting that american sanke tap to Cornelius keg taps (pepsi keg fittings) so that i can keg my homebrew and have it in there. Less bottling ;) Draft beer was the way it was meant to be enjoyed.
Hey man I saw your vid and your mods are awesome. I recently bought the same Danby kegerator and would like to make the same mods you have made. Step by step would be f'n amazing. And where you could or did buy the parts. I would be greatly appreciated if you could help a fellow beer lover out. Thanks
@7ducenova Thank you ! I bought different parts from Radio Shack and different hardware stores. Read thru the comments on this video, and the other video (Part #1) and it should explain the parts.
@harleyspringer1 The DC power supply is an AC Adapter from Radio Shack. It's the $20 one that allows you to select different voltages from 3 volts to 12 volts. I am running my cold air pumping fan at 9 volts because 12 volts was very noisy and did not really give any more air flow for the extra 3 volts. I think this will help my fan to last longer.
It would do about 38 degrees when i bought it, but after the mods i did, i can get it down to about 30. It will fit a 1/2 barrel or a 1/4 barrel keg. The keg shown in this video is a 1/2 barrel.
at what p.s.i. Do you set co2?

@jagenberg42 I was gonna say 10-12 but up in the top comments, looks like I must have answered 8-12 PSI about 8 months ago, so let's go with that :P

Great video.
A few might say, not worth the effort...
Cold Home Draft Beer outshines any canned or bottled beer.
Most will never experience this small joy of life.
