did u know that this show used clips from movies I found that out a long time ago when I was looking some clip from the show and then saw some clips from a movie that are both the same because they use a few clips on there show like the dam brakeing down now if u have seen superman the movie and I mean the part with the dam brakeing down after a earthquake in the movie tell u what u think?
now with myth busters on it that can actually remote control a car so if they remade a half decent knight rider they could do that, and knight rider is up there with star trek because it was way ahead of its time and it was even before KR
thrue i have all of the knight rider seasons an in the forth season when kitt drifts himself i saw somebody s hands comming out of the sit and spinning the wheel
Another funny thing: Michael has a bad habit of leaving the window down, right? Well why is the darn window down when the bad guys are shooting at them? It defeats the point of having a molecular bonded shell, doesn't it? XD
It does defeat the point of having a molecular bondage shell but this is television and the window was down so you could get a clear view of the driver without reflection from the glass.
My eyes are trained to look for those little things and sometimes I wish they weren't. Such as:
In the episode "Circus Knights" I believe, Michael and KITT were making a dramatic entrance in Ski Mode through a gate. But when the car goes up on two tires, it leaves noticable black marks where it's been driven. When Michael and KITT entered, there were already multiple trails of tire marks, indicating they had attempted the stunt already multiple times. Pretty good, huh? =)
There's one particular episode where they filmed a shot from the side, and in the follow-up shot, you can see the camera plainly attached to the side of the car. They didn't remove it from one shot to another. I guess it was a continous shot, and they didn't want to risk stopping it because of all the cars involved.
There's also another shot where when you see him Turbo Boost, in a similiar shot to the above, you can see the car is a stripped-down hollow body meant to be lighter.
...rubber bulls touched on the horn by KITT, gasoline spitting from the fuel tank(1st episode, thieves making 8' s), miniature KITTs(junkyard dog, parachuting in Goliath[...]),
The KR series was+IS my favorite(I was less than 10 yo then) and even they had plot gaps(silicone valley' s references), double - irrelevant roles for their actors(Margo, the woman with the kid on the 1st episode, latino-priest[......]), personnel seen on the cars surface(KARR, Army episode[...]),
when i watched the show i always wondered how they made the car drive itself then i caught the trick myself i was watching the episode called (killer kitt) if you watch this episode where you see it is when kitt got michael on the hood trying to kill him as kitt runs michael into the concession stand when kitt starts to hit the gas and back up look in the passenger side window you can see the drivers hands doing the hand over hand on the wheel i guess the camera had a to good of close up
Hey.. of course we all knew a car couldn't drive by itself.. but regarding we are talking about the 80s they did a great job! : ) Guys, use your imagination! And I personally like the little mistakes they make all the time, it gives more credits to the imagination of the producers. Nowadays, evrything can be done by computers.. back then, they had to be creative. :)
The crew that worked on Knight Rider were just pure GENIUS.
All those stunts done with REAL cars and REAL drivers (eg. jumping over a wide ravine, ski mode, etc.) none of this fake CGI crap that movie makers are addicted to now.
Let's see a movie made today without the aid of computers and see how "good" their special effects are ...
@ausknight2k I don't think you realize how hard it is to create good CGI stuff. It's not "just the computer" which does it, it's always a human artist behind it. I admire the work of good CGI artists.
@Yoctopory it may be hard but not as creative. the computer does most of the work. can you imagine the creativity behind a show like Knight Rider? Do you notice a difference between the original Knight Rider and the The New Knight Rider? Did you notice that the New Knight Rider only went one season? And how many seasons did the original went? My point is im not trying to knock off CGI, but back in the days you had to be high skilled for what they did in the original series.
@2010thekingofkings i know you left this comment long time ago but i got to comment back ..you said the new knight rider only went one season and the original went longer and you think the only reason it went off cause they used CGI ...thats not it ..to many people didn't like the new show cause kitt was a mustang and not a trans am stupid reason to not like the new show but that was it ...to many people tried to compare it to the original thats the reason it didn't last
Not only was the car the wrong car, but the show was stupid. They completely changed the dynamic from the original show. Instead of being one man, and one car, it was now one car, and 10 different people. They also gave the new KITT a terrible, monotone voice. Had no humor from the original, and used sex to get people in. Something the original NEVER did. They also made it one big plug for Ford. The transformations were ridiculous, and all Ford models.
@ausknight2k Its really cool that it was all real back in the day, but I think Knight Rider went through 80 something Trans Ams during its run. Its just far too expensive to do something like that today compared to just using CGI which also puts nobody at risk of injury.
I noticed that years ago. Knight rider is cool in all, but they needed to look over there episodes for improvements. Some episodes were extremely obvious a blind man could notice them. There was one, I can't recall the episode name but, one's floating around on youtube were we see someone hiding in the back seat while the doors open. Come on!!
Obviously the technology to rig a car to appear to maneuver on it's own didn't become available until recently or at least about the time the Mythbusters perfected it.
Yes, that was a trick PMD seat. They modified the seat to accomodate the guy sitting behind it, with his arms going through the front of it. They had a small 5 to 10 inch size steering wheel down below underneath the gull wing, joined to one of the steering linkages to drive it like that in some scenes. The gull wing steering wheel had a chain of some sort attached to the lower wheel on a sprocket, so when the tiny wheel turned below, the gull wing turned, leaving us to think KITT drove himself.
awesome! i always wanted to know how they did it.. i thought it'd be servos n things oh well still awesome how they managed to drive the car like that :) thanks heaps for showing us this fabulous info... NOW TO EAT MY EYEBALLS! lol jokes
Kinda like how they did the Jurassic Park Explorers, except they did those by having guys lay in the cargo area behind the 2nd row seat and use a video monitor.
Hmm. They used similar trickery in the Transformers movie 07.You can see the driver's arm at one point as Bumblebee drives away after Mikaela insults him.
Darkened glass was often used, such as the episode where Michael losses his memory (Knightmares) and KITT drives after him in an alley (before jumping over the road construction) The whole front window is darkened!
You're missing the point. The glass is in the headrest of the front seat. The stunt driver sits behind a fake seat. There was also a car that was right-hand drive so the Hoff could jump out and the car drive away in the same shot.

Well it's better than the new KR where the windows are all tinted and no need for special effects. It's just a bald man driving KI3T.

well they could have used servos and a remote control..
but a side shot looking in would probably reveal the motors that would turn the wheel..
that tinted glass and maybe black colored servo motor control parts may have hidden it though
