  • I remember then saying back around '71 that when Donny finally gets around 13 or 14 that his voice will change and the music will never sound the same. They weren't kidding. You can tell it just listening to this video.

  • Mmmm hot asses.

  • funny thing is a rotting apple will release ethylene, which as a gas is able to diffuse into nearby apples causing them to rot as well.

  • where's the ;little guy with the high-pitched voice?

  • love them

    x

  • This was obviously filmed after Donny's voice changed, I was expecting his little high voice when I first started watching. LOL!

  • Back in the day, I liked both groups. In fact, I don't even remember the public comparing the two groups, racially. I remember people admiring both because they were kids with talent. That's why I have this song on my 70's playlist. I even had this record when it was out. I couldn't imagine a 70's playlist being complete without "One Bad Apple."

  • @CheckMate657879 When the song "One Bad Apple" first came out, I remember that (well, at least I couldn't) tell who was singing the song--Donny of Michael.

  • Back in the 1970's I loved the osmonds especially Donny, The Jacksons and The Osmonds were both talented in their own right. Being black and born in 1967 the Jacksons was the main group for me but any i remember being a big fan of the Donny and Marie Show back in the 1970's and I even had the Donny and Marie Dolls and brush and comb sets. Thanks for the Memories of my childhood

  • @alijn7 Ha ha. I was only around 7 years old so I liked the Partridge Family. :D

  • ;smile; this brings back memories of Donny posters, bubble gum, laughter, dancing, and innocence.

  • i love the osmonds and iam black, them and the j5 were staples in my bubblegum days,it is a part of the youth back then, and he still rocks, love you donny, everyone is critic nowadays, just enjoy the music

  • and donny osmond was auhh-mazzingggly cute and a really talented singer. :]

  • if you dont like this you must be crazy because this is amazing...

And im only 15 and i love this stuff and my parents didnt even entroduce them to me so..yeahh

  • Then why go to the site? that's pathetic you have nothing better to do.

  • Then don't watch it. How hard is that to figure out?

  • lololololololololololololololololol

  • I like the Osmonds, but they sure sound different live than on their studio album. Marie is still hot

  • EVeryone sounds better in the studio-- they can control the way the sound works. Back in the 70's it was very difficult to get the sound system right, depending on where you performed. just didn't have the technology back then.

  • Comment removed

  • the osmonds were wigger pioneers....i luv the fake guitar jam intro.

  • The backing band is SMOKING, especially the bass.

  • naughty isnt he? He wouldnt be able to smoke now on stage he probably be banned.

  • it wasn't the osmonds choice, more like their dad's. the rest of the osmonds wanted to rock, but donny got the attention. it is a fact they did do a motown medley on the LP 'phase 3'.

  • sound like j5

  • I loved the Osmonds and now that I watch the videos again, it really awakens happiness in my soul for real! I was a young girl and I miss those times. I didn't get to see them in person but I really wanted to. I think the best thing to say about the Osmonds is that they stayed true to their family and parents and always stayed wonderful. I love you all of you Osmonds and Marie too

  • Even according to an early biography about the Jacksons "American Dream " they were, according to Michael ,"obsessed" with the Osmonds and cited their turning down "One Bad Apple" as something that haunted them forever. I think I see why.

  • The Jackson's had 5 songs to peak at #1 on the charts in this same period. The Osmonds only had 1 song to EVER peak at #1 EVER and that was "One Bad Apple". If the Jackson's had recorded that song too, it would given them 6 #1 hit singles instead of 5.

According to Donny Osmond, Michael Jackson told him that the Jackson 5 almost recorded this song first, but chose to record ABC instead. Another #1 hit.

    So, what haunted who?

Come on man, put the lid on that bullshit.

    The truth is known.

  • I was soo in love with this song..

  • Osmonds are good and fun to watch. the J5 performed in the early 60s Chicago area puppylover. Read their history. It took lots of grooming and shows b4 they hit it big with Motown. Michael started at 5. 1963. I am glad we have both of them

  • Love the Osmonds...always have!

  • i am enjoying this song and osmonds but there is no comparison with j5 . J5 took it to another level .

  • the truth is, is that the Jackson 5 were originally supposed to sing this song, and honestly, they would have done it better. their voices are stronger; especially Michael.

  • hit after hit, that was the Osmonds. that was pure entertainment years ago..still love watching this stuff.

  • I love watching Jay's exuberance and facial expressions when he dances, makes me smile every time cuz he really gets into it! I can see why he choreographed alot of their dance moves...

  • I love this song!

  • why did all white artists copy black singers and ther songs?? they did it like elvis presley

  • They were only doing what they were told to do. Later on after they started to do their own songs, they had their own style.

  • They werent big till J5 took off. J5 is alot better but the osmonds are good and i like them.

  • You might be right-- for the USA, but in England I think "Love Me for a Reason" also was #1, and they were in the top 10 a ton.

  • Oh, gosh, where have you been? YOu think the only #1 song was Yoyo? I was there and it was not. Good grief, they had a slew of them, as did Donny and later Donny and Marie. Anyhow, you are right though that Yo Yo mirrored the early J5 hit by the sound.

  • one bad apple was the osmonds only song to go number 1. look it up before you reply. donny may have had a couple of number 1 solo`s.

  • you betcha.

  • And thats how pop boy bands were borned!!

  • Osmonds were doing early pop music on the Andy Williams show, inlcuding the dancing well before the Jackson 5 came along. YOu can't say the Osmonds copied the J5 when the JAcksons admit they studied the Osmonds on TV. Even in the made for tv movie about the Jacksons, Mr. J tells his sons to keep practicing by saying that "the Osmonds always practice, tired or not."

  • but the osmonds were not a commercial success until they coped the J5 sound and that got them worldwide recognition.BTW, this was their only song to go number 1 on the charts.

  • Stop it. Cherry The Jacksons did not copy the Osmonds. The Osmonds were on tv but the J5 did not have a tv. Joe wanted his boys to be the best so he verbally used the Osmonds comment to motvate the brothers. That comment in no way suggests them copying the osmonds. Typically black artists are copied by white artists. Elvis, Justin Timberlake & Beatles though talented are all admittedly influenced by the black artist.

The Os simply got a tv gig b4 the J5.

    They copied the J5

  • cherry32959 the Osmonds were doing a tin pan alley song and vaudevillian soft shoe act on the Andy Williams show. They changed their entire act after the success of the J5 and "borrowed" heavily from their routine. Joe Jackson wanted his sons to emulate the poise, composure and professionalism of Osmonds, but it is clear there is far more of a James Brown, Temptations, Jackie Wilson, etc., influence on J5 singing and dancing than an Osmond one. There is a heavy J5 influence on Osmonds.

  • that's true, but I should have added in Utah, in Ogden, they were doing more of the popular songs at the time-- sort of trying it out. it is true they were influenced by the J5 as well as Elvis and even Led Zepplen

  • Im sure Donny and co are sad about Michael Jackson dont you think so??

  • yeah, I saw the interview he did with INSIDER. when MIchael was secretely in Arizona, donny wanted him to come and hang out at his house and he never did. maybe if he would have, things might have turned out differently. you never know. maybe donny could have helped if he had a drug addiction. but, maybe that's why he wouldn't come too. its very sad. such a talent. . .

  • thanks for your reply. It was sad wasnt it?

  • yeah. I feel bad that his career went so downhill. I honestly thought at 1st he did the molesting, but that 1st kid came out and said he lied and there just was too much nonsense with the trial one for it to be true. donny didn't think he did either. now he didn't get a chance to redeem himself, at least through the music. I wonder how surprised he was to die, now in the next life. at least he has peace.

  • yeah, the powers that be saw how successful the J5 were, and wanted the osmonds to emulate them more than they wanted to. but if you would have seen them in Utah before they got that first hit, they were doing more rock and roll with the choreography.

  • so lonely tonight on cam have msn!!! msg me jane23belle e

  • Donny looks like a goof with that phony smile.. wow

    good song though

  • Does it really matter who did what when and how? It was like 20million years ago!!! Donny and his brothers were damn sexy then (even to a 14yr old who didn't know what sexy was) and Donny is STILL flamin sexy to a 49yr old who now does KNOW ......SHUT UP... The Osmonds / The Jackson 5 both damn fine bands who both did well out of the 70s and both enjoyed girls screaming at them....what diff does it make now.....

    Gailxx

  • i love the outfits. love em! i'd wear them. lol

  • I LOVE THEM

  • i love them mostly donny,jay,and merill

  • Osmonds Started in show business before the J5's. Donny was 3 the first time he was on Andy Williams, but the brothers has already started and were semi regulars on Andy's show. They were discovered I think at Disney Land by Andy and his Brothers who also sang

  • jackson 5 is way better

  • These guys are so Fucking sexy. xD

  • i'm sorry but who ever says they copied the jackson 5 doesnt no anything. they actually didnt copy them, they were just a boy band who seemed to sound like them... read donny's autobiography and then your'll understand. love all these guys xxxxxxxxx

  • you are the one who doesn`t know anything. in the word of the osmond management,"if we can make them sound like the jackson five, they will be bigger than the jackson five because they are white".

  • huh?

  • I saw this tour in Rochester, N.Y. with my sister at The War Memorial. When they did Go Away Little Girl and Puppy Love the crowd went absolutely BALLISTIC !!!!

  • ό, τι ένα μεγάλο κομμάτι, είναι αυτό το τραγούδι από ένα κάλυμμα;

  • omw! they all look the same! its awsome! i love their songs!

  • Nick Jonas of the Jonas brothers said they want to make a cover of that song.

  • This song I mean.

  • Yeah, i read that in popstar magazine...

i really cant imagine this song with the Jonas Brothers haha

well ofcourse with their style, it would be nice to see what they can do...

I love the Jonas Brothers! xD

  • I kno it is weird I cant imagine it but i bet it well be good

  • yea, they are really good covering songs (:

they should do a maroon 5 cover, i read its like one of their fave bands

    (:

  • that would be awesome. one of my favorite bands covering another one of my favorite bands. i already like to compare the jobros to the osmonds rather than, like, hanson.

  • Oh my stars the guys were hotter than hot. They played, wrote and produce most of their own songs. They have treated every fan as if we were and are part of their family. WE LOVE THE OSMONDS because they LOVE US through their music and warm souls. Thank you to whoever found this..I have the double LP...but was never able to see them in their hey day.

  • The Osmonds were Superstars when is was still cool to be wholesome. Every early 70's teen was either owned their vinyl records, was a fan club member, or prayed to meet them. We didn't just worship Donny, we loved all of them! They need not be compared to the Jackson 5. The Osmonds were big talent since 1958 on the Andy Williams show.

  • WOW Merrill is just go beautiful in this clip he is just gorgeous.

    cheers of sharing.

  • I love this song! One of my favorites!

  • LO UNICO BUENO QUE HA DADO LOS MORMONES

  • thanks for this kim999 nice one

  • Nice cover but I prefer the original

  • Actually, this is the original. George Jackson wrote the song for the Jackson 5, but the record label, I believe it was Motown, rejected it and the label the Osmonds were with, MGM?, jumped at the chance to have the Osmonds do it and a rivalry with the Jackson 5 was started.

  • ggh - Are you a member of The Osmands?

  • No, I am not. But the family and I have mutual friends and I have had the opportunity to meet and talk with the entire family several times in my life. They are good people.

  • ggh - What is Donald Osmond like in person?

  • Mmm good thing that you said that....post it on wikipedia because one bad apple is the first Osmands song ive heard and i thought: "Wow cheap versions of the Jacksons"

i read on wikipedia that they turned back to rock songs after this....any that you can recommend?

  • ? why do ya'll talk about the jackson 5 when these are osmond songs not jackson's they had their style of music and the osmond had their style Let's get with the show it's osmond music here not jackson 5. sheeeeeeesh well i differ that VanCephus Jay did all the choreographics moves for the brothers... and himself.. so bite me!

  • Very bubble gum BUT I LOVE IT LOL

  • MERRILL YOUR A BABE

  • My all-time fave, dug this live version very much with emphasis on the horn arrangements. Go Donny Go!!

  • afrofúconexion!!!!

  • I just love this video they're young, beautiful and talented - Merrill is especially gorgeous in this clip - yummmmmmmmmmm

  • OK...OK...it's time to stop all this bickering about J5 vs Osmonds. Maybe you guys can learn something from them. They are all friends, especially Donny and Michael Jackson. Go to my profile and look for my video entitled, "Donny Osmond compares Osmonds to Jackson 5" BOTH groups were very good in their own way.

  • Man, was THAT fun to watch...and listen to, of course! The 70's were a total blast. How I'd love to go back for just one day...Anyway, thank you Osmond family. I'm sure that your parents are looking down with much pride and love. They "done good"...and so have you.

Mucho gusto!

Bueno pues patoja....mucho gusto a ti tambien. Escribeme....LarryYouTube aroba gmail punto com. Ciao por "now!"

  • Im black and seriously I just saw and heard this song and the yo yo song. Very nice performance. Comparing them to the Jackson five, to be honest if I were to hear this song and thier yo yo song with my eyes closed I would think it was Micheal Jackson singing. Young male singers at that age have a similar high pitched voice, they did well. One black group one white who cares. Its just sad that the Jackson family ended up so damn wacky, thats one point they would of lost to the Osmonds.

  • cher, i'm black too and i feel the same way. stop comparing. when you compare there's always one person, group or thing that might get hurt. so why do some go around hurting unnecessarily. let's give both groups their props. i love them both, but there's always been something about the osmonds that will forever touch my heart.

  • cheranalaniyan you could not possibly think this was Michael Jackson singing? someone doing a poor imitation of Michael Jackson.

  • True, true, they totally copied the Jackson 5

  • They were in the business before the Jackson 5, so couldn't it be argued that the Jacksons copied the Osmonds?

  • love the outfits

  • Like 5 skinny Elvis'...or would that be 5 Elvi?

  • If the other Jacksons were so much more talented than the Osmonds except for Donny, where are they now? The Osmonds are still performing.

Can't believe the Osmonds vs. Jackson 5 debate is still going on thirty years later. lol.

  • That was all just record company hype. The older Osmond bros. are doing barber shop again...Both families tried second generation groups, with their kids, they ALL sucked! Can't reproduce the past!

  • a bunch of Elvis impersonators without even seeming to know it...or did they?????

  • cool video. Hey K3304, stop whining. What are you jeolous of black people cause they're "cool". The Osmonds were cool but you cant compare them to the Jackson five. Nor can you compare Donny to Michael.

  • Compare Donny to Michael- Look they both were great in 70's- Michael has done some really stupid stuff since than.

  • Michael Jackson was promoted as "cool" while Donny was square. Donny wasnt the right color

  • So now they both aren't?

  • The Osmonds Rule

    Merrill ROCKS

Is there anything he can't sing.

    CRAZY AWESOME

  • even tito had more talent than the other bros except donny. but jermaine, jackie, marlon, and tito and even lttle bro randy has more talent than the other bros... donny was the only one that was real talented

  • i agree the jackson 5 were better entertainers when it came to singing and dancing.

  • Not anymore- Not too many people will buy a Michael Jackson record now. Look at him- Is it really Michael- Hello

  • i agree the jackson 5 were better entertainers when it came to singing and dancing.

  • They were pretty good the only problem is they were compared to the jackson5. The jackson 5 took over the game and Michael took it to a whole new level. The osmonds were good and we shouldnt try and compare to them to the jackson 5(because in the end.....the jackson 5 were better)

  • Michael, yes, is way better than any other singer ever. He's just phenomenal and no one comes close. However the Osmonds as a group are far, far, better singers than are the Jacksons. The Osmonds feature lots of ethereal tight technology that creates a silky sound that the Jacksons can't touch. Listen to "Ben," and when the Jacksons come in with the choir part, they are embarrassing, and that's on the record mind you.

  • The dance routines by the Osmonds are excellent. The Yo-Yo video shows that. I'm not familiar with the Jacksons' vintage routines but the Osmonds are so much fun. I'll give you that the Jacksons music is more ambitious. E.g. "I want you back" is just *so* good. That, I'll admit, makes "One Bad Apple" seem like a poor knock-off.

  • great!!!...

  • The Osmonds rock this world and always will!

  • they look like 5 Elvis look-a-likes

  • Much better looking

  • how old was donny in this one he sounds horrible

  • I think like 14 or 15. His voice was maturing

  • Osmonds Rule!!

  • they suck suck suck suckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

  • I was at this concert. Donny threw down his mic, grabbed his crotch and said, "I'll come out there and teabag your ass if you keep throwin' pennies at me!!!"

  • SUPER LOL!!!!

  • Doesn't the beginning sound like they were at a James Brown Live Concert.

  • No...it sounds like a Las Vegas Revue. They shouldn't have put down their instruments. Their terrible dancers and look like clowns, jumping around on stage.

  • The Osmond brother's were a lot better than people want to give them credit for. Good song.

  • This song really did put them on the charts. The jumpsuits were cute. I liked them.

  • Yo man, I remember this one. It was a cold day(around Valentine's Day'71..on my 1st date, said the same shit to her"1 bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch girlll! Now the live version sounds dam good with a different harmonic style and yo,them chops!!

  • this song was orginally for the jackson 5 but berry gordy turned it downed because he only used motown writers

  • More like Gordy turned it down because it's a lousy song.

    -jcr

  • the song was number one on the pop charts for 5 weeks and reached number 7 on the r&b charts if it was lousy it was gordy's loss

  • watch "el rap de waly"

  • OMG I was 8, tooooo funny lol

  • Elvis started wearing his high collar suits in 1969, the osomonds didnt arrive on the seen until 1971. Elvis has the suit first.

  • mg didn't the osmonds look so much better in them! Love Elvis too though but never liked this kinda suit on him.

  • the beg. instrumentals sound a lil like the jacksons shake yout body for a lil bit

  • Actually the Osmonds had the white jumpsuits first. Elvis was a huge fan of the Osmonds and liked the outfits so much he had some created for himself. Of course, now he's more famous for those outfits than the Osmonds.

  • What are they supposed to be dressed like Elvis

  • Man, I'd forgotten just how insipid the low point of pop culture in the 1970's had gotten.

    -jcr

  • Spoken like a true kill-joy from another generation. If you don't like it, keep it to yourself. Music could only ASPIRE to be this fun, happy and upbeat again.

  • Another generation? No, I grew up in the 70's. There was far better music being made then, and that's why the Osmonds have been mostly forgotten.

    -jcr

  • Ah, but they are far from forgotten. Especially not in Great Britain. And....who are you again?

  • I agree w/ ookaminotamashii - those were the days of fun upbeat songs sung by cute, talented men that didn't have to have explicit lyrics/messages. I hope my 6 yr. old daughter has some 'osmonds' in her early music life, like I did.

  • nice outfits but wish they would hav had their own styles everytime i see them they're usually wearin the same type of outfit maybe jus diff colors.

  • This song spent 5 weeks at #1 on the charts in 1971

  • i just closed my eyes and i was 15 again oh to be in love

  • Boy, does this bring back memories. My best friend was a Donny Osmond fan and played this constantly! Good stuff!!

  • would have loved to be at this show, or at this taping on a sound stage, whatever it is....

  • OSMONDS RULE

  • lol....no gay Osmonds...all married....to women

  • Oh yeah, just like Tom Cruise and John Travolta, right?

    -jcr

  • Which was the gay Osmond?

  • C'mon, the Osmonds can dance, can't you see??? And as far as N'sync and NKOTB, Back Street Friends, 98degrees side burn, and so on. Those names should not ever be mentioned. One they weren't a band, so the comparison is a mistake and secondly, they're manufactured. Those names are lucky to be even mentioned in this commentary.

  • yeah the J5, particulary Michael have dance move in their skin!!! Unlike the osmonds (what a horrible name!)

  • Not one bad apple in that whole bunch

  • There wasn't, was there. Good men all of them. Alan especially brave. Life is what you make of it! You can't live a dream, and they have had their all too real problems and emerged as exemplary citizens in show business. That's rare.

  • these guys were mormons? fucking hell!!

  • i know....such a waste of good hormones, LOL

  • this song was originally for jackson 5 but berry gordy rejected it

  • fantastic pop classic osmonds rule grant

  • It's cute but The Jackson 5 are better !!! NO WAY

  • I agree... even tho Osmonds were talented, they were a carbon copy of the Jacksons (just like Foster Sylvers were among many others). Anyone w/ a sense of musical history (or was 'there' during that era) knows that.

still.. i like "one bad apple" reguardless.
