  • It was the simple things back then that still make me laugh today.

  • I always loved when he popped out from no where to go do his dance..

EVEN BETTER the fact that buckets and buckets of props get thrown at him, and he just dances he way through it all.

  • To tapasbaramsterdam

Easy to understand your comment since you likely never saw the show, if some one didn't, they just couldn't get it. This was a very funny segment, wasn't on in each show, was random, to a very funny and very popular show.

  • @aquiariots72 ....i like to disagree,, i never saw the show....but im loving every minute of GENE GENE THE DANCING MACHINEEEEE Jajajajajajajaja.....i'm planning of putting on randomly during my wedding jajajajajaja ... if you dont like this you didnt enjoy the simplicity of life...grettings, to all...

  • Everyone got laid whenever Gene Gene The Dancing Machine came by.

  • This makes me so happy. Can't stop watching it!

  • If you enjoy this- IT WILL KEEP YOU YOUNG FOREVER!

  • watched this as a kid,great memories!!!

  • Arte was ready for gene, I liked the way he was dancing back there and waving his arms and hands, that was SO FUNNY!!!!!! :)

  • best show ever!!!!

  • I can't believe this show was on the air. It was completely insane, and made no sense (now that we're 30+ years later). Ah the 70s and drugs...

  • can never have to much gene gene the dancing machine, i even danced with him when he came on the show each time

  • You would dance around and not have a care in the world if you snorted a line of coke a yard long. They are having a ball

  • I loved this when I was a kid. So awesome.

  • One to fhe greatest shows ever on tv

  • That trumpet player is really good! Ah, the seventies. Three's company is on next, no?

  • I would sit the whole show just to see gene . I have been searching for another good bit that they did ..he was a reocurring contestant called the sockless x-rated Dancer ..he would get introduced and then they would just close the curtain on him lol..great stuff

  • the great EUGENE PATTON ! the man sure could dance !! i love it !!!!!

  • arte johnson seems happy it's time for gene gene the dancing machine ahhhhh

  • Poor Gene got the diabetes and had to have his legs amputated. True story!

  • This takes me wayyy back. I was ten years old dancing with my family in the living room. Great times!!!

  • I wonder, during the 2nd segment if Chuckie Baby already had some rails cut for him when he slumped over that bandstand wall?

  • when i was a kid whenever gene came out we'd go crazy dancing around the house, great times its all about the memories man!

  • I love the fact that these comedians and entertainers were so laid back in those days with a phenomenal sense of humor. Today's shows such as "America's Got Talent" and "American Idol", those celebrities take themselves way to seriously (Simon "The Scowl" Cowell is a perfect example).

  • Better times!!!

  • ITS SO FUNNY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • People having fun. S'whats it's all about

  • One person can't dance...

  • ......it's almost like you can't have this kind of fun on TV anymore. :-/

  • I'm 35. Thank you for putting this up. Man, I'm a grown ass man over here dropping tears. I was a kid watching this dancing right in front of the tv. We would love when he'd come out and dance. Man times do change...wow. I miss the past. Thank you so much, It's crazy how I'm over here laughing and crying at the same time

  • My sister and I loved to watch this show. We were 11 & 12. Didn't understand all the goings on (then), But we would dance & hoop it up with Gene Gene.... Thanks to him, and Chuck B. The Band with a Thug ROCKED!!!! as well

  • When I die and go to heaven, I want it to be like one long episode of the Gong Show

  • This is what people entertained themselves with Before Fire was invented......

  • They had so much fun with this show. Classic. I wish some channel would show reruns.

  • What a CLASSIC!!!!

  • I will never get tired of watching this

  • Pure classic genius. Chuck Barris even added to the hilarity of the proceedings with his dance moves. Never could understand why many were and still are very critical of The Gong Show. By far one of the best "reality" shows past and present.

Thank you Chuck, Gene, Jaye P., arte, Jamie, et al for some of the best of CLASSIC TELEVISION.

  • I can watch this all day! I remember always being a little disappointed if Gene wasn't on the show. But when that music started, I got up & danced with the man!

  • Put this show on DVD, Dammit!!!

  • @WH32290 YES YES 1000 TIMES YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • heh.....i can't stop watching!!! i forgot how great this show was =)

  • Love how a bunch of random shit immediately starts flying at him!

  • David Letterman as a gong show panelist? Priceless!!

  • cocaine is a hell of a drug.

  • My favorite part of the show, "GENE GENE THE DANCING MA-CHINE!!!!

  • OH MY. I'm in tears!!! This is hilarious! Further proving I was definitely born in the wrong era. If this stuff came on TV today I'd never leave the house.

  • This is pure joy!

  • Wow...70's cocaine is a hell of a drug! Lol! AWESOME!

  • Did anyone know that Chuck Barris was a C.I.A agent. The Gong Show was a good front. Who would ever think that Chuck could be a C.I.A agent.

  • When is the last time you saw a television audience have this much fun? The actors/acts are having the time of their life. As performers they have got to be feeding off of the pure exuberance from the audience.

Seriously good times. Wacky, imaginative, FUN.

  • @ 4:00 Could they throw some more shit on stage? lol

  • Funny that back then, people considered The Gong Show the end of Western civilization-until Springer came along...

  • I loved when GSN used to show these, I would tivo these religiously. I may make an animated gif of ole Gene for our St Louis Blues Game Day Chats. This is mega awesome.

  • I just got an A in math and had an uncontrollable urge to do this dance!!!!!

  • Gene Gene has dancing in his genes...

  • Yes, I remember when TV did not have to be ugly, vulgar, or sexual to be entertaining like The Gong Show back in '77. I miss those days.

  • Been a long time since I saw Gene, Gene the dancing machine. Love it!

  • ...This is soooo damn trippy and insane!!....I can't stop watching...lol

  • This was American Idol back in the day.

  • @atworkstation I don't know about American Idol, America's Got Talent maybe.

  • After all these years I still dance to this tune and throw my arms out wildly like they did....God bless Gene and God bless Chuck Barris for putting this show on.

  • BUMBUMBUMBUMBUMBUMBUMBUMBUMBUMBUMBUMBUMBUMBUMBUMBUMBUMBUMBUMBUMBUMBUMBUMBUMBUMBUMBUMBUMBUMBUMBUMBUMBUMBUMBUMBUMBUMBUM!!!1

  • MACHINE!!!!!!

  • DANCING

  • THE

  • GENE

  • GENE...

  • OH NO!

  • Oh no! That can only mean...

  • Wow, Chuck really knows how to hog a spotlight, doesn't he? And evidently the cameraman was told, "Gene's segment should primarily feature Chuck." At some point Gene should have said, "You have the whole show, and I got two minutes. Sit your punk ass down, honky."

  • this is what made the show great.

"THAT'S GENE GENE THE DANCING MACHINE!"

  • i'll take this over the american idol crap anyday!!! No age restrictions were on this show!

  • i think that there should be a nation wide search for a suitable replacement to Gene Gene the Dancing Machine. And the person who judges should be chuck barris and Gene Gene himself

  • @advillan Gene passed away some time ago.He had diabetes and lost both of his legs.

  • @tapemaster

While it's true that he did lose both legs to diabetes, Eugene Patton, aka Gene Gene The Dancing Machine, has not yet left this earth.

  • @generalbullmoose I stand corrected.I coulda swore I read he passed somewhere.

  • It's funny how it was Genes time but it seems to be more on chuck while they dance to the music

  • BACK IN THE DAY, THEY WOULD RUN THE GONG SHOW AT NOON, I TELL YOU, YOU WOULD HAVE TO KILL ME FROM MISSING IT. EVERY JOB I WAS ON AT THE TIME GAVE ME ACCESS TO A T.V AND IT WAS ALL IN HOPES OF CATCHING GENE.............BOY I MISS THOSE DAYS

  • Gene lost both of his legs due to complications from Diabetes. He now wears prosthetic legs and walks with a cane. He will always be "the man" in my book!

  • The song Gene dances to is "Jumpin' at the Woodside" by Count Basie.

  • The band are absolutely cooking - always were. What a show. You see, kids, when they tell you drugs are bad, that's true now but it wasn't in the 70's ;-)

  • I love it when Chuck Barris loses it when Gene's music starts.

  • chuck is obviously high

  • great music!

Guess the dancing is a bonus, kinda.. ;)

  • Oh for the days of coked-out TV game show hosts! Just think of how much better other areas of TV would be if some high-grade cocaine were slipped into some writers' food.

I can think of no better place to start than the awful writers group at PBS Kids! No wonder kids are brain-dead zombies! A little coke into those self-righteous pillow-biters at PBS Kids and they'll be cranking out hard-core slapstick and homo-erotic humor in no time! Barney doing Jackass stunts would rawk!

  • @InfiniteMushroom - you scare me - and you are awesome

  • I love how the music strikes up and everyone just gets into the spirit and goes mad. Even the production crew throwing anything and everything on stage to accompany (or hinder) Gene Gene the Dancing Machine. True television anarchy at its absolute best! :oD

  • Where's the one where Jaye P. Morgan unbuttoned her shirt and showed her tits that got The Gong Show kicked off of NBC?

  • If it wasn't for this show right here none of these shows today wouldn't have existed. So thank you Gong Show for putting these shows today on the air.

  • @Crzyprsn7 And none of these shows today can touch this. It is actually sad to see how far American humo/ur../TV has fallen.

  • This was real reality TV, not the scripted junk that they pass off today. I really miss this show.

  • Oh, those were the days. A plastered "game" show host, a cult figure, a live band, dancing in the aisles, lots of pre-PC fun, kiddies.

  • @drobin3149 Oh, those were the days, and as a teenager you thought things would only get better? Watching this makes me actually miss Jimmy Carter.

  • @drobin3149 Maybe society has just forgotten how to have fun.

  • I completely agree. I loved this show! Everything became a running bit - Gene, the Unknown Comic, the judges - it was all like a fun inside joke. You had to watch every episode.

  • I miss this show. I loved it when I was a kid. I wish it would come out on DVD.

    Dawn

  • Gong Show rules

    American Idol sucks

  • You know what that means? Ladies and gentlemen, ladies and gentlemen, its Gene, Gene the dancing machine!
