this is absolutely awesome!! if everything goes to shit im getting my SHTF pack and hitting the woods going to build me one of these and going start over :) have to be prepared guys for anything..
Geez man,This is one of the coolest things I have ever seen and I have seen alot.I lived in the Rocky Mountains of Canada and lived on a beach in the East Coast of Canada.I have been part of a log house building in the woods but your place is just way too cool. Thanks for all your videos,,,I really enjoy seeing people use what nature has provided,,,well done
To place a tarpaulin on a bender first lay the tarp out flat. Roll it from both sides to the middle. Manoeuvre this double tube over the bender frame. When it's in position roll both sides down. This is easier than dragging the tarp over, there's less chance of snagging. A layer of carpet under the tarp makes good insulation. Small, colourful liner cloths can be worked in behind the poles when the carpet and tarp are in position. See my channel for a safe chimney arrangement.
Just beautiful! We have just purchased 7 acres of very wet and extremely overgrown meadow and are looking to put up a bender or two next spring. I would never have thought of building a raised floor. Brilliant! Thanks so much for posting. x
1 window was a proper wooden framed house window, reclaimed from local rubbish dump. In Wales, recycling centres encourage you to take away the things people have thrown out - in Kent they shout if you even think about it.
other windows were perspex panels, donated by a new friend. They had their own uprights, and were held by splitting thick hazel, and pegging it back together, with the window between. This was pegged to the uprights, and all joins were bound too. Cob helped hold them too...
I bloody love this. We've just started building a bender out the back for a place to chill out in the summer. Thinking about wattle-n-daubing the lower walls and we'll see about the roof. Really like your bottle-n-daub walls. How did you keep the windows from falling out? Were they made from glass or from plastic sheets?
@GatorGarbage - some day, definitely hoping to build something more enduring. We'd like to do without the canvas, and thatch the next thing. And the walls, ideally, would be wattles, but daubed with cob/mud.
This place we promised to leave by the Spring, so we cleared everything except the house, and left it be for the owners, who run a forest school. Maybe this winter we'll find another coppice woodland to work in, for another temporary dwelling. It is a good feeling, upping a home...

Love it, had one similar untill recently and some kids had set fire to it. It had been my home for years. Waiting for the Spring to redo.

Awesome. That's pretty cosy for a months work. Are you planning on building a permanant low income house?
