  • @LANO500 or just pull your own knife -_-

  • I am thinking of learning martial arts. The real thing, not this Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, or Dead or Alive thing. THE REAL THING!

  • Pull a Gun instead

  • Simpler then this dodge the knife jump backward works great and punch to the face right after the knife clears you body

  • This is likely to get you killed. Many martial artist have not trained with aliveness to see how fancy martial arts moves fail in reality much of the time. Trying to block and counter strike a knife....good luck...try it with a shock knife and see...u will only try once! Sure maybe your 9th Dan grand master practicing this for 40 yrears might have the timing and accuracy under stress, but doubtful. Even so the weapon must be controlled before striking if you can not escape.

  • sorry to tell u that,i can tell u all your defenses are wrong.what u doing is playing with people's life in the real fights. cos you re giving them non sense confidence to defend themselves against of their enemies while the techniques are wrong.

if they do nt know anything is better, at least they will surrender without getting hurts.

    the best wishes for you

    Shihan Poya

  • @isdsamurai i think that is a little harsh. It has some validity however the truth is you are not really going be able to defend your self with out extensive hands on personal training not just videos. These videos could be good advertising or motivating tools but you aren't going to be a commando from just watching these videos.

  • Man this is really good, is this krav maga like_?

  • In a recent scientific bullcrap study, 35 people who saw this video and disliked it were, one way or another, stabbed to death and laughed at. Meanwhile, 69 (such a naughty number!) other people were indeed attacked with a knife, and because they liked the video, used these techniques to pwn their attackers.

    IT'S SCIENCE, PEOPLE!!

  • I think ill get too scared to remember all of this!

  • i think ill too scared to remember all of this!!

  • there is no way your going to be able to catch the arm right away if it was a real situation. sorry, another fake martial arts slow motion bad guy doesn't do shit and freezes senerio.

  • @tredub91 lol, u gonna get shanked someday. It takes time to learn these things, anyway. I bet you're too impatient to know this, and when you are confronted with an attacker, you're going to either run (smart choice) or die (hopefully not).

  • problem is there all usually in groups with or without a knife so defend yourself from one

but then the others.. i have no idea about what to do then

if you know any moves to handle these situations, id be grateful if you uploaed a video to do so

  • I would like to see someone defend against my ballistic knife

  • That is a great move!!! What is the origin of this form of martial arts? Absolutely incredible!!!!

  • and the guy just stands there with his arm out and let you do that to him?

  • I'm in the Marine! I killed an Al'Quaida with your technique. I locked his elbow when he came forward to me with a slash, and i disarm.him. Then i did a neckbreaker, took that knife, and finish it with a stab in the heart.

  • this is shit. :D

  • judo is a sport. but you get used to fight in away. self defence? i was threatened by knife two years ago. i was unable to move. end of the story. anyway you won't strangle someone for 20 dollars with your judo or your karate. i mean i am unable to break the neck of a man .

  • This is a typically awful bunch of stuff you'll do when someone attacks u then just stands there. Haven't we pretty much moved past junk like this?

  • feel bad for this dude

  • Knife fighting is dangerous. Use your belt, coat, change in your pocket. If some jumps you with a knife then grab the stabbing arm and fight for your life

  • good stuff you have videos ,dvd, vhs.I like hoe you emphasys on HIGH THREAT....I'm looking to be A correctional offier and would like to know what styles are there to practice

  • Where do you go to take classes? and typically what is the fee?

  • I like the stuff Charles Nelson does

  • this is crap it wouldn't work for really....

  • you'll get cut that way. want to know why? find Paul Vunak's clips on knife fighting and defense.

  • i am thinking of starting judo but would it help if i get in trouble on the streets

  • Judo has a lot to offer but does take a significant amount of time to becoe proficient at. It's good to know how to handle yourself on the ground as well, but you never want to put yourself there intentially in a real altercation. Put your assailant on the ground and use your feet to get you away from danger. RUN!

  • @simpson4563 Find another style that incorporates streetfighting: JKD or Krav maga. Most of dojo styles are complete rubbish when situated in a streetfight. Muay Thai, boxing or mma mix makes a better package.

  • @etphonehome2915 I agree 100% with you. These other styles are based on myth not fact. I studied traditional arts and they left me feeling unsafe. I joined a kick boxing club and used my judo for the grappling. Now I feel safer.

  • @clearcombat Yes. I trained muay thai for three weeks and their tech's are hard hitting methods. Kickboxing is also very useful.. A kick can end the fight, pronto. Judo has a lot of great moves including leg sweeps throws and some basic grapling on the mat. Also the different locks, armbars are useful. Although my top 5 for street combat is: (1 Jeet Kune Do) (2 MMA) (3 Krav Maga) (4 Hwarangdo) (5 a mix of bjj and muay thai/kickboxing/karate)

  • @simpson4563 cross-train in martial arts, it is the only answer. Over the course of five years or more study a mixture of judo, muay thai and escrima / arnis then test what you know in MMA.

  • No it will not help you, but JKD, Krav Maga and other street styles will. Judo is for competition the other styles are not. I would also recommend wing tsun for close hand to hand combat. Escrima is also useful. Watch out for bullshidos

  • @simpson4563

i would not say judo is the best choice for selfdenfence.

i Would say Karate is better coz of the more aggresive defense it has, attack is the best defence (;. where judo aint that aggresiv.

    - But Karate is boring though coz it really the same u do most of the time :P

  • @simpson4563 yes it would, after 25 years of martial arts training and fighting as a pro, let my say, that it does not depend on what you are doing, it is only depending in the way you are doing it, judo provides the benefit that you may not be very strong or very athletic to be successful. If you are smart enough and you are brave hearded enough you can get quite near to your opponent and thats breaking most advantage martial arts like karate and kung fu might have. I do not offend anyone ;)

  • @simpson4563

Good fun! A great foundation for fighting but not a whole building. You need more for effective selfdefence.

Better get some type of boxing skills in too or judo will get you knocked out, missing teeth.

Rolling around on the floor is the last place you want to be in a street or bar fight.

  • @simpson4563 Yes, judo would be an excellent asset. In fact, I'm combining Muay Thai, Karate(Goju Ryu), and Judo for a knife defense for my belt test. Hopefully they allow me to combine them, as I have no experience in Muay Thai or Judo.

  • @HiddenAbilities I totally agree and suggest people study the Judo nage-no-katas, this video is good: watch?v=HGsFfVtos_c

eoi-nage (starting at 1 minute in) and uki-goshi (at 1.50) are effective knife defence throws (gives you an opportunity to escape or incapacitate). Aikido and Jiu-jitsu also have nice knife defenses, often involving turning blocks into armlock takedowns.

  • @kensei85 Thank you for the link! And yeah, I'm going to study that video you sent and utilize it for my Next Belt Test.

  • its true though what you said lot of times you dont know the guy has a knife and it comes in during mid scuffle but i gues i was reffering to the situation from your vid......hey anybody got some insight on being attacked from the side or back with a push over an/into an obstacle like a bikerack ,car, fire hydrant etc...usually tha gets the best of someone befor they can even comprhend what happened their already being rained on with either strikes or more objects.....

  • if you ask me legal goes out the window when someone is trying to knife me and moral well pfft like i said someone is trying to knife me .........id rather live behind bars than die at the hands of a psychopath who would would be more prone to kill or maim again........until cuaght or killed....yeah its not the knife you need to control it the person who controls the knife...thats my philosophy anyways....

  • vitals as you close the gap and make the move fuck him hes trying to kill you hes a worthless vicious scum snap the neck!!!!!

  • I agree that you should never go into a confrontation expecting to get cut. That would be like crossing the street expecting to get hit by a truck. Immediately terminating the assailant is great for military purposed but can pose problems for civilians and law enforcement both legally and morally. It's not easy living with the fact that you've taken a life. In addition, in low light conditions or a sudden suprise assault you may not know that he has an edged weapon...

  • ... for this reason, your reflexive (muscle memory based) technique needs to closely resemble your technique against and unarmed assualt and target non-lethal areas of the anatomy. "I thought he had a knife" may not cut it in court if you snap someone's neck for swinging his fist at you.

  • @realselfdefense You are kidding right? Going into a confrontation with a knife wielding opponent is the absolute LAST thing you should do! Especially if you are unarmmed! Im sorry to inject a little realism in here, and I mean no disrespect, but You WILL get cut! Not if...YOU WILL! "in a knife fight the loser dies on the street, and the winner dies in the hospital."

  • In my opinon i have never seen a tactic that will work against a knife i have over 10 years reality training and real world confrontation experience. there is all this emphasis on controling the weapon than the attacker with the explanation hey you should expect to take a couple cuts along the way......but the way i see it if you are gonna take a cut might as well forget about controling the weapon and just rush him and snap their neck.....his knife is useless if hes dead just cover your

  • Is there some secret Ki technique behind this? Or why the f**k does the attacker insta-freeze as soon as he is touched? Maybe you guys should fid out how real knife attacks look... I mean, a 5 year old armed with a Q-tip could defeat THIS knife attacker...lol.

  • no KI or CHI required. This video only shows the technique at about 40% of real speed. The eye strike will be only hundredths of a second behind the block stopping the assault completely. Don't kid yourself, just do some training.

  • The reason i´m asking is because i´ve been training in KMS Krav Maga for about 5 years and i would very much like to see this so called "technique" work at full force and full speed. And I´m not kidding myself, i am not the one trying to make money by teaching people stuff that will get them killed...

  • Krav Maga does have a lot to offer so good for you for choosing that system. It's not all about money, it's about empowering people with the skills and confidence to save their lives. And, Bojuka has saved lives. Train hard and stay safe.

  • better than most at least he controls the knife arm by directly grabbing in stead of block then grab which rarely works against a knife

  • I remember when I was still doing wing chun our sifu told us never to go into close quarters with someone swinging a knife unless it's absolutely inevitable. And I have to say that I totally agree. Whenever you can grab your feet and run. Engaging an armed person is suicide if you are not exactly a master of martial arts. And even in this case there is still the possibility that your opponent knows how to use a blade.

  • Your Sifu was absolutely right... if you can avoid any confrontation (armed or not) you should. Any anyone who's seen what a blade can do knows it's better to avoid the situation altogether than take the risk. This and any other knife defense is for when avoidance or escape is not an option.

  • Comment removed

  • from whitewolf-if one use continuous motion countering with one hand while other strikes throat/face and driving through or sweep you shuld be ahead of opponent-so i agree with the vidio-altough i rather go straight to throat than hiting arm-stay safe

  • any attacker that knows anything about knives, knows to attack holding it in a stabbing position, pointing down. if this is the case, get away from him he knows what he's doing. right ?

  • This is a common myth. Grip position, either saber/forward or reverse grip isn't an indicator of the skill level of the assailant. In Bojuka, and most system that teach knife tactics, we use both grips, selecting the one most appropriate to the situation. Each has isn't advantages... saber grip provides greater reach and lends itself to a wide range of slashing and thrusting angles. Reverse grip is excellent for closer quarters situations and provides enormous stabbing power.

  • does it work the same if the attacker is holding the knife with the blade pointing down in a stabbing grip

  • The technique is essentially the same. If the attacker is using reverse grip and coming straight down you will need to advance rather than retreat (at the beginning of his movement). The counter strike to the eyes or throat should be simultaneous. If he is in full swing you will need to retreat and then enter.

  • With all sincere and due respect, grabbing the weapon limb to control the blade is no theory. If I grab with both hands, I won't be cut, and I can/will take the knife going to the ground or not. Of course one can use words to argue and go round and round all day..the proof is in training with resisting oponents that transfers to street effective defense. I train in Kapap

  • Kapap has a lot to offer. Consider this though... what is your assailant doing with the offer hand when you double-grab the weapon hand. There is a pretty good chance he'll be striking you in the head or grabbing your and pulling you in. Just something to consider.

  • In class this may work, but against a resisting opponent your grabbing his arm with one hand WILL NOT secure him from removing his arm and cutting you while doing so...also he can easily deliver a cross to your face and/or deflect your palm strike. You need 2 hands on the weapon arm.

  • While using 2 hands to control the weapon sounds great in theory, it leaves far fewer options for ending the altercation through strikes and will almost certainly end in a grappling match in which you will still be cut. Deflect the blade and immediately (almost simultaneously) counter with a strike to the eyes or throat. Don't focus on the weapon, focus on the person wielding it.

  • I will take on this guy anytime with or without weapons.

  • Perhaps you should try a few classes before rendering such broad opinions.

  • Right, because people actually attack that way with a knife.

    No.

Just like all other knife defense techniques, this makes assumptions about how knives are actually used in an attack and assumes your attacker is going to stand there and dance with you.

Perform this at your own risk.

  • honestly huh

    what dumbasses

  • You are right, no assailant is going to dance with you. However, drill this technique and execute at full speed once in a while and you'll see just how easy and effective this technique is.

  • i think this looks useful because it looks easy and effective.

but why dont finish with a throw or something instead of just pushing you opponent away? wouldnt that be safer?

  • A throw would be a good finish off option.

  • The only time that the knife popped out was when it bounced off the defenders chest.

  • That is the difficulty with doing things slowly for demonstrations and for partner safety. At faster speeds the hand does spring open but the weapon tends to move move laterally (to the side away from the body).

  • This is well done. lol your friend must hate his job.

  • LOL a smack in the face

  • Very good!!!

  • Um this looks like a good technique if u didnt know any better. If you want to see proper technique of how to disarm knives and guns then check out tony southard on here. Hes trained in many forms of the arts and has trained military personnel a good amount of which are special forces.

  • Well... this technique is simple.. and has saved a few lives. Training in "special forces" knife fighting sounds like a great idea, but what is acceptable on the battlefield of a war and what is acceptable in the streets of our cities are not the same. Most SF style knife fighting focusses on termination of the attacker. You may or may not be protected by the law if you kill a knife attacker in the streets. It sounds like you should be good to go, but when you are in front of a jury of....

  • ... your peers, they may or may not be convinced that your were in the right while listening to stories from the attacker's friends and family about how wonderful of a person he was. And when they play a video clip from a CCTV or cell phone that shows you disarming the attacker and then slashing his throat. Once the threat is eliminated (disarmed and no longer able to cause you harm) you are required to disengage. Besides all that legal side, you'll have to live with killing someone. Good luck!

  • ahahahaha that's a funny response

  • I have a better Idea.....once he strikes...Draw back, then as the momentum carries him , it gives u a short one second to punch him hard in the nose with ur left hand. He is then stunned and u can do any other things u like to him. If he tries to block that blow with his free hand he will most likely cut himself :)

  • Well the thing with that is I dont have a doubt that won't work but missing a mark could kill you with his style you have the dodge plus a block for insurance.

  • there are infinite variables when considering you could be in any environment, at any time... thats why i like the idea of keeping it basic, but its always good to know more than one technique.. i know next to nothing about self defense but its common sense to stop the threat, be it a knife or fist.. and then assault the sensitive face which steers the aggressor

  • nice!!

  • I am sorry man, but this looks exactly like one of the techniques which get you killed. Where do your techniques come from? You really do not understand the angles of attack, the knife fighting principles, dynamics etc.

    1. The guy could simply continue and stub you to the ribs - the whole side of the body is open 2. He could continue and cut your hand 3. The second arm is unocupied. I do not tak the argument, that you pull his one hand and the second moves backwards. Didn't want to offence

  • I'm actually very familiar with "the angles of attack" and "knife fighting principles" etc... Have you ever been struck directly in the eye. I can tell you that even a light strike will put a person down instantly. The eye strike happens almostly simultaneous to the slash. All fighting (knife fighting included) must be kept simple and the blocking in this technique harnesses the body's natural flinch response. Anything more complicated greatly increases your risks. Try it out. :)

  • I do agree with you that strike in the eye greatly increases your chances. The problem is strike itself. If you do not have static oponent it is very dificult to hit the eye. Your technique should be aplicable even if you do not hit the eye. You rely to much on the hit. The block itself could work against empty hand but DOES NOT WORK AGAINST KNIFE ATTACK. POINT. There is no way you can STOP an knife attack, you can just redirect it... Wish you good luck anyway!

  • Redirection is just one way of dealing with a knife and is more complex, relying on tactile sensitivity. This is very difficult to do under duress. Stopping the limb is the same armed or unarmed. The knife is an extension of the arm. An eye strike is actually very easy to hit, and any strike to the gerenal area of the eyes and face will cause a similar reaction. It will certainly change the focus of the attacker long enough for you to maintain a solid trap on the attacking limb and finish.

  • Another consideration is the utility of a technique based on your environment. This technique for example works equally well in an open room as it does between to vehicles or with your back to a wall. Redirection requires changing the space between you and the assailant to all the blade to pass. That would be very difficult with your back to a wall and no room to move. I do use some redirction techniques but they require greater skill and finite variables. Techniques need to be versatile.

  • I disagree with almost everything what you just wrote. I am not going to argue with you anymore. I will just add this: Hope that you never ever have to use this technique against somebody who knows how to fight with a knife.

  • I like the nice counter argument you had to his well thought out explanations. "I disagree with almost everything what you just wrote." ahahahaha, you sound like George Bush. Anyways clearly this maneuver is applicable to a variety of situations, so don't bag on it unless you got anything else.

  • Ok, wish you all the best.

  • Ummmm nice but what about the other arm....

  • Two things stop the second arm from attacking in this situation. 1) The eye strike. 2) IWatch the faster demo carefully and you will see there is a slight pull of the weapon hand as the eye strike occurs. Pulling one arm foreward will cause the other to pull backwards. Give it a try. :)

  • All I'm saying is there are several tactics you could use before resorting to trying to block. You shouldn't question people's knowledge who you know nothing about. If you had to block one thing I can suggest is to keep your arms faced in as to protect your vital arteries and veins...I still would rely on kicks to keep distance if possible. And a large cut on your arm can kill you just as dead as to the throat. Though looking back I did sound like an a-hole so I apologize.

  • Sorry to break it to you-but if your opponent knows anything about knife fighting he can simply pull back after every strike and !oops! you get cut. --Like Paul Vunak said-Give a little kid a marker and try to have him attack you with it-you can bet your behind there will be marks all over despite your attempts to block...If you can't run or find your own weapon I suggest keep your distance and just go for the most magical marital arts move there is: a kick to the groin.

  • If you had any real knowledge on this matter you would know that these techniques are a last resort and an assault against you is eminent. You would be trying to protect the vital areas on your body. Would you rather have a large cut on your arm "even though that is serious," or on your neck" potentially lethal?" Any good teacher in these self defense techniques will tell you you only use these techniques as a last resort.

  • A freind of mine was actually mugged by a woman and she kicked the woman in the groin in self defense. The woman dropped the knife and was instantly sick. Don't fool yourselves ladies, getting hit down there will bring you down too.

  • You are absolutely right! A strike to the groin will effect a woman just as much as it will a man. The area is filled with nerves. The only difference is that there may be a greater risk of permanent damage to a man's genitals.

  • I get so mad at these "experts" and "masters" whom all claim to teach you "reality based knife self defense techniques".

IT'S COMPLETELY IRRESPONSIBLE TO MAKE PEOPLE THINK THEY CAN COUNTER ATTACKS LIKE THESE and able to walk away.

Practice these balony moves and you WILL get killed on the streets.

If you see a guy with a knife then Run your ass off!

  • What if you have no time to escape, or you're trapped... I would think having some basic self defense skills might be advantageous. RBSD instructors always teach you to seek an escape if possible.

  • i understand the need to have some knowledge of self defense. But this is not realistic. At least they could have told you not to grab the knife hand, just kick the bastard in the ball.

If they claim to have the knowledge of self defense against knives then they must also know the reality of a knife attack. Most attackers will do a "prison rush" which mean that he will come at you full force and do quick stabs. There's no way in hell that you can defend yourself with this kind of technique

  • We also teach techniques for the "prison rush" type of assault. Keep in mind it's not the only way people attack with knives.

A groin strike can take 5-8 seconds to fully debilitate an individual (longer if the person is drunk or on certain narcotics). If you don't control the blade he's going to continue trying to cut you.

  • you mention that a prison rush is not the only way that people attack with knives.

Only an amateur would attack from such a great distance, over reach his attack, and pause long enough for you to do all those fancy moves on him.

Even amateurs attack in random ways. there's no defense for that except RUN like there's no tomorrow.

Lastly, even if the assailant is on narcotic, a kick to his balls would buy people enough time to run. don't just stand there and him go down. Run!

  • They are giving people unrealistic techniques. That can get people killed.

Most knife wielding bad guys only want your money. They don't want your life. So give them what they want and live.

If they want to kill you then you have done something wrong. i.e.: pissed of a mafioso, owe loan sharks money, or mess with another man's wife.

Bottom line is if you learn these stuff on the streets then you will get killed.

  • You are right, MOST criminals only want your money or valuables and will leave. However, many will stab you and don't need much of a reason. Here's some useful information for you:

    2007 Stats (United States)

Robbbery with Knife or Cutting Instrument: 30,287

Aggervated Assualt with Knife or Cutting Instrument: 135, 389

  • counter grab his arm? he's trying to kill you. so what? he's just going to try to slash you once? leave his arm there for you to grab? and what, in the heat of the moment, with the adrenalin racing through your veins your going to remember to do that oh and not fuck it up? and then after he's left his arm for you to grab he's going to just let go of the knife if you manage to weave your arms around his without him kneeing, headbutting or punching you with his free hand? oh & what about his mate?

  • Scenarios are very dynamic. Do some research on adrenaline stress conditioning and neuromuscular fascilitation. Then, do some serious training. Stay safe!

  • No! You just got cut! You block like that, he's just gonna slash the outside of your arm. Look at Earle Montaigu.

  • yea accpet pple carry fold knives.......gona be harder

  • The assailant is using a folding knife. If your tactics have to change depending on the type of knife being used for the assault, then your tactics need to be reconsidered. You will not have time to determine what kind of knife he has in a real altercation.

  • Lol, I think my self-defense technique rocks anything else out there. I call it the "Glock .40" technique. It's actually pretty simple...

Hehe seriously though good video for when you're travelling to states that don't honor your state's concealed weapon permit.

  • the technique is bullshit!!!

  • how? i learned something like this but not the same and it saved my through in a knife fight i had a few months ago

  • uh... wow... uhm... just uh... yeah...

  • how come u didnt disarm him second time in realistic speed?

  • The knife didn't drop because I didn't put pressure against the back of the elbow at full speed for safety. In reality, the hands would be loose after you strike the eye, and the knife would be gone after hyper-extending or breaking the elbow. Good observation though...

  • Not a fan of defending, striking, and then allowing the opponent to back off. Once you have control over the opponent you should maintain it until the confrontation is over, not push him back giving him another chance to attack. Also, striking the eyes is good in theory, but hard in actuality. I prefer a slightly larger target and one that is harder for the opponent to defend...like the throat. I wouldn't do this in a fist fight, but I have no problem striking the throat when dealing w/ a weapon

  • I am also an advocate of striking to the throat. This depends of course on its accessibility. If the attacker leads with his chin down (quite common) it may be difficult to access the throat. Targets must be accessible, create a predictable response and be appropriate to the trheat at hand.

Eye strikes take very little skill to develop accuracy. Any strike to or around the eyes will create a predictable response.

  • I agree, you should not release an assailant and allow them to continue his assault. In this video, I have struck the aggressor's eyes (or throat) and caused trauma to the attacking limb causing his to drop the weapon. The push could be into a wall, over a table, through a window or into any other obstacles.

The assailant's level of consiousness has been greatly deminished at this point and I have the opporunity to finish him off, RUN, or deal with other assailants.

  • I'm pretty sure someone who has trained the most elite and renounded soldiers in the world knows a little bit about self defense. Though there are many ways and what may work best for you may not for every one.

  • I'm five foot two and not really heavy. So I have a disadvantage in heigt and weight. what can a small woman do in such a situation. The same? I know that adrenaline can make you do things what you would not be able to in normal circumstances.

  • Size and strength can help but are not as important as your technique itself. This one would still work for you if done properly. Consider adrenaline an enemy in a confrontation. It may give you more strength but it will hinder fine motor movement, reasoning and creates tunnel vision. Keep calm and respond to the situation not what you imagine it could be. Breathe and control your fear.

  • I've study Aikido a japenese martial art with roots from samurai. I toake it for practical self defense more than anything else. One of the greatest Aikido master was only 4' 11'' and my teacher is only maybe 5' 4'' technique and leverage are more effective then size in many situations

  • nice =]

  • Any1 who knows anything about knives knows you never 'stop'the knife hand.... you keep it moving to unbalance the attacker so he never regains control of his arm........ where do you guys get these techniques from???....have a look at any Paul Vunak or Frans Stoven vids......might learn a thing or two

  • There are various theories on how to defend against a bladed assault. I have also trained in styles that keep the blade moving and this usually requires a greater level of finer motor control and sensitivity that degrade under stress. Simply put, the faster you can strike your assailant the sooner you can shut down the assault.

  • It also depends on who you are dealing with. For example Vunak says that only a total amateur would just thrust the knife and stab. But you must remember that 9 out of 10 attackers are NO 'martial artists'.However, if you are attacked by one and you can't run, you're dead.

  • If you look at modern martials art likes krav maga and MCMAP and actually participate and not only watch videos you'll understand why to stop the attack.

  • hey dipshit.. before you suggest to people tp 'participate' u might want to find out a little bit urself.... have been trainig and teaching martial arts (sticks and knives)for over 25 yrs.... probably longer than u are alive....

  • You've trained and taught for 25 years in martial arts and this is how you respond? "Any one who knows anything" that sounds like a 12 year old tryin to prove his point because he just thinks his way it right. a true martial artist respects anothers form and takes the good and the bad from, it not critizing saying its wrong. I've been taught by a marine combat instructor who specializes in knife defenses previously for the FBI and does training seminars for police agencies accross the country.

  • yes I have..its actually what i do for a living....you were the one who suggested i 'participate and not just watch videos'....you are right about taking the best from various styles.. never disputed that..and never said what i do is the 'only way'.... just saying if your going to teach something then teah something that will work.... and yep... work with marines in the Middle East.... enuf said there.....

  • "Any1 who knows anything about knives knows you never 'stop'the knife hand" Now this may not be the best knife defense but saying that you never stop the knife is just rediculous krav maga and just about all the effective knife defenses involving stopping the knife and disarming it from the attacker eventually if not defeats the whole purpose really. What if your against the wall in this case you have to stop it. your comment was just disrespectful and ignorant of other styles.

  • Mate your coments show your lack of experience. Im talking about the initial attack. its actually easier to to defend against an attaker if you are against a wall, if you cant go backwards then you have to 'enter' and 'redirect'.again the level of training... make them come to you....you may grab the knife hand initially but you 'redirect' before they regain the control of the knife hand.....go and buy a 'shock knife' and see if your techniques work....this is a very good way to train.........

  • are u actually saying that being against a wall in a knife fight is a gudd thing?

  • No im not.... Im saying if you train this way it teaches you distance and movement, if you remain static against a wall then you will be in trouble....its all about redirecting the attack, not 'stopping' the knife hand,,, ideally you get away and fight another day but if you cant escape what u gonna do? you have to learn to 'enter' and against a wall is the best way to learn....

  • what if that happened and he didnt drop the knife? because when you tried to disarm him the fast one, he didnt drop it untl you threw him back which he still could have held on.

  • More than likely the knife WILL drop when you strike to the eyes. The hyperextension of the elbow will ensure that he is unable to hold the knife or effectively stab or slash with it.

  • One thing is that this video seems to assume that the guy with the knife isn't going to lunge at you. If the other guy really wants to kill you he's gonna be running towards you and slashing violently and etc.

Still a very useful video, though. Great technique.

  • That dude with the knife got owned at 01:23 ROFLMAO!

  • Sounds like the sennse is from Canada;

  • no way would i try to block a knife like that!

unless you got it 'perfect' you'd loose some fingers or get badly slashed. it would be easer and safer to step back with R leg and utilise head movement and get the hell away!

  • Its never going to happen like that.

  • yeay defence agenst 2 combat knifes?

  • yeay man what about if i have 2 knifes?

i will stub with the second knife

  • I see the principle. But your stepping away from the guy with the blade at the moment of the block. There is then a pause as you move in the for the eye gouge. Notice this when he says "im blocking..{pause).. stricking". At this point he will probably hit you with the other hand. Also if the knife arm bends, at any point, your never going to get that elbow break in. And a circular slash to the throat is really done with a straight arm.

  • Pulling slighting with your trapping hand while striking the assailant in the face/eyes will pull him off balance and allow you to easily pull the arm straight for the elbow break. The are also some easy options to control or break the elbow from above the arm if the angle of attack warrants it. As for the pause... this is a demonstration video only and not performed at the same speed as a real threat would be. There would be no time for him to react at all.

  • only an idot would use a knife that way...

  • This is actually one of the three most common assaults with a knife. The angle and velocity of the assault will obviously vary but the tactics remain the same.

  • i see.. like in counter strike? :) well i was an idot on that one. my apologies.

  • what i meant by counter strike was the game they actually have that kind of assault in the game.

  • I really needed this. Because someone is going to be getting me at school and I know he has a knife. Thanks a lot!

  • Im training this Move everday now!

  • that was BS it belongs in Hollywood,

  • lol, i tried this on my friend just now and dislocated his arm

  • you play waaaaay tomuch games xD

  • the more dangerous knife atks are stabs especially when in close quarters.

  • Great videon.

  • The best technique to do is to get the fuck out of there if someone is coming at you with a knife. This is why you have to train that cardio of yours if you can. it will help you run.

  • You are right about that! The best defense is always to be somewhere else. But... in the event that you are suddenly attacked or cornered and cannot escape, you want to be able to stop the assault and create an opportunity to run.

  • lol funny

  • Good to see you move out of way. May I make suggestion that you already have throw or projection in first motion.

After counter and control, be aware of slash to arm when blocked. I find keeping the edge in motion brings more control, and end the motion with a disarm rather than striking so the attacker can not pull his second blade or strike on you blindspot.

  • what if the guy with the knife stabs instead of slash
