Me and the Mrs. are here, in the capital city of Canada, and we just wanted to say that we both rather enjoyed your taking the time to put the history of flatpicking out there. I also play some - a wee bit. I now have 3 guitars and like to try different things on them all for they all sound just a bit different from the others. How the guitar business going? And thanks again !.
Actually, Geo Shuffler's signature style was cross-picking, whcih is somewhat different from Doc Watson/Tony Rice etc style flat picking. Cross-picking is kind of the guitar version of Scruggs banjo rolls.
There are several Geo Shuffler videos on youtube that discuss and demonstrate cross-picking.
Honestly, I'm not sure how this guy ended up as an "expert" but his information isn't really accurate. Sure, Doc Watson is a well-known flat-picker but George Shuffler and Don Reno were flat-picking long before anyone knew who Doc Watson was. What about Django Reinhardt and Jimmie Rogers in jazz and country? This is like saying Earl Scruggs invented 3-finger banjo playing when he learned it from Snuffy Jenkins who learned it from Smith Hammett who probably learned it from someone else. My $.02.
That's an unfair attack on this post. Everyone acknowledges Lester Flatt's rhythm, vocals, and simple leads as excellent, but Doc did move all of those fiddle tunes (with linear runs, crosspickin, and fills) on over to the lead guitar. Look it up, and cut down on the rudeness.

Your so full of it your eyes are brown. Was there a guy named Bill Monroe? Did he have a flatpicking guitarist. Look it up.
