I have PCOS and I just found out a few days ago. Im only 18 and its nerve wracking. Ive always been 100% sure of wanting my own family one day and it might not happen now. That worries me more then to be at risk for heart desiease or cervical cancer. I know that sounds stupid, but thats just how important having a family is to me.
I thought that I might have PCOS but my doctor tested my hormones and they were normal. I also have two children and didn't have trouble conceiving. But I have many of the symptons: acne, hair lost, hair on weird parts of body; face, stomach, nipples. I also have painful periods, ovarian cyst, mood swings and weight loss.
I was just diagnosed yesterday... i have: Bipolar like symptoms dandruff long heavy periods extra weight/ weight changes (high, low) hair loss excess hair sleepign problems stomach pain oily skin skin tags skin discoloration Deep voice Depression ovarian cysts I'm only 13 and i actually used to think it was just puberty, now i have to talk to a doctor and try to regulate things out, but my glucose and colesteral and blood pressure are A+! Im worried about stomach pain though...T_T
inquire about PCOS when you go see your Dr.... and GO SEE YOUR DR! My current dr that is going to do my hysterectomy told me that because I went about 13 years misdiagnosed alot of the problems I have now are because of lazy drs that didn't look further into my symptoms when I was younger. I wish I couldve found the Dr that would've diagnosed me sooner. Good luck!
i am working on treatment. but i think just that fact that it feels like your life is spinning out of control untill you set yourself straight it is hard. i take an anti depressant and yaz and it helps but i still have my down days but it is amazing to know that there is a whole community of women with this disease, and it is great to be able to find hope in them! thanks for this video
I've been diagnosed with PCOS, a bicornuate uterus, severe endometrial hyperplasia and am currently in the middle of a HUGE decision-making process of having a total hysterectomy done at age 24, no children and single. It's something that I want done and everyone is screaming NO at me.... thank you for this video!
I am 44, no kids, and I have spent the last 30 years hearing about how I would someday wish I had kids. Never happened. Never. Do what you need to do.
I was diagnosed with PCOS last july, and i was wondering if there are any women here who have conceived babies naturally (without the aid of medication)...and what symptoms do you have of pcos, cause it varies from woman to woman
hii,, that video was nice of u! im 19 and my doctor told me i got pcos, but the 1 thing i am worried about is can i get pregnant? even though my periods are irregular (1-2months) am i infertile?
I'm still wondering how the doctors could misdiagnose your PCOS for being bipolar! Bipolar disorder has many symptoms that need to be present that are not found (at least normally found) in woman with PCOS.
When you mentioned that a low carbohydrate diet worked for you, do you know how many grams of carbohydrate you were having daily? I know with atkins induction it is 20g, what works for you?
I'm so thankful i've found this video. I'm in the same situation as you. I'm actually in the process of the diagnosis. I've already been diagnosed with bicornuate uterus and endometriosis and now they are thinking I have PCOS. I'm very scared.. because they all lead up to infertility. With my uterus shape I have only a 55% fetal survival rate. I have no idea what it is with these other 2 conditions. My chances of miscarrying are... outragous. Thank you so much for this video!
I am in the middle of trying to figure out what is wrong with me with my doctors. I have been irregular along with other symptoms since I was 16 and I am now almost 22. Doctors had always told me at first its normal to be irregular, until last year a doctor told me I could have PCOS. I am having trouble with my doctors, one doctor who I went to for a pelvic exam, didn't do one, and argued with me and just told me I was fat. I know I have it, I have the symptoms. This is such a stuggle for me.
at your age I did not have facial hair issues either. I was about 27 when I started to have issues with that. So just a warning. You can develop that symptom later on
carrying on from the last post as i exceeded the 500 word limit. i'm not overweight and am a normal weight for my age do you think i should take exercise would i benefit? i just want to thank you for posting this, it inspires me to try and think positive even though i find having this upsetting and distressing.
i'm a teenager and diagnosed with PCOS. is metforin safe to take? what are the side effects? i am recently diagnosed in may 2008 and currently do not take any medication or seeked treatment as i have the condition mildly. would you recommend i take something?
Yes i would suggest if a doctor said it that you should take it. I have been on metformin and it helps with the insulin levels that causes alot of the sideffects in PCOS. At first you can feel sick in the tummy as metformin tries to rectify your insulin levels. But it passes as you continue on.
I'm 14 and I was diagnosed with PCOS on Aug.14th 2008 and i take metphormin.and i wad also diagnosed with endometriousis. and it's been really hard because im over weight and it's not my fault but i still get picked at about it..
i also have pcos and i am rly worried that i wont be able 2 get pregnant i wud like 2 be in a support group but i dont no of any so if any1 can help id be more than happy .
I am also diagnosed with PCOS. Have any of you problem with hair lost. I lost a lot of hair and it really depressing. I am tired of going to the doctors who really don't care about you and have no idea about this case. Could anyone give me infos about their experiences, I really appreciate it.
I have PCOS too and lost about 50% of my hair or more. It sucks. Thanks god my hair was too thick to begin with. Are you using any treatments for your hair?
I have Pcos and I give you credit for sharing with others. I also belong to the same soulcysters web site. I have m/c and found after many dr's appointments I am a heavier pcos's and I am also on metformin of 2000 mg. Since loosing weight of a little over 50 lbs I have return to ovulating and hopefully when my dh comes home from afgahanistan we can sucessfully try.
i had my hormones checked and they came back fine, so the doctor left it at that...however i am still having weight gain, hair under my chin, lack of period and bloated tummy....i cant stand it i am so scared that i will not be able to concieve and i am so scared that i have this alongside suffering with psoriasis...it is really tearing me apart.
I too have PCOS, and I am scared that I will develop Type 2 Diabetes because my blood sugar levels were slightly higher than normal. I had a problem with Metformin because of the nausea, it was so bad I couldn't move, but I'm on Glumetza now and it's better. I'm on Provera and Glumetza, but I HATE this condition because it's with me for life, but it I will have mastery over it one fine day...
I have PCOS as well.. thanks for providing this video for those who don't know about it :) I've been on three medications: Metformin, Spironolactone, and Actos. Just recently, I started reading "PCOS Diet Book" by Colette Harris and have started making big changes to my diet. Also, I've added Flaxseed Oil, Milk Thistle, and B-Complex supplements. So far, my acne has started clearing, I'm dropping pounds, and I am honestly feeling great. This is a good book to read.
I also have PCOS. I managed to get very fit over last two years, then gained loads of weight when I met my partner. I haven't had a period for 3 months, even though I've increased my Metformin dose. I'm having terrible mood swings and have quite a hairy chin, which I'm having to wax, every fortnight. Luckily, I don't suffer from acne, but sometimes have ocassional flare ups.
It is diagnosed by blood tests. They test the level of lh and fsh hormones in your pituitary gland. They also take into effect all of the symtomps. The symptoms are very, very obvious, especially if you are have irregular or no menstration
Vitex Agnus castus, The chaste berry. Has been used for 2500 years.
You have to be careful with the herbal stuff because the female market is a big target and they will have you buying all sorts of stuff that you dont need.
Yes I totally agree. Demand treatment. demand to have homones checked . I spent 4 year to get dignossed. I am taking up 13 pills a day from side effects of PCOS. I am now looking into gastric bypass. I know know it will not take away my PCOS, but I do hope it will take away some of my weight issue problems.I would like to talk to you one on one if possible ninlinn7
Great video, thanks! I've had some PCOS symptoms and have been wanting to get checked out for a while. When I went to a doctor about it though.... she didn't bother testing me AT ALL because I had fairly regular periods .. ugh. I think i'll go to a different doctor this time and demand some tests be done.

The gyn I went to didn't want to give me meds to re-start my period which I haven't had since Nov. 2008. She jus told me I have PCOS and that was it.
I suffer from depression, obesity, and other typical PCOS symptoms.

PCOS is a syndrome, or a "pain in the ass" as I call it.
I have sought treatment, and turned to herbal things, and so far, its helping more so then anything ever has.
