my friend has these videos and he has learned a lot!! hahaha. It would be great if you could add subtitles to the videos, it is a bit difficult for people who doesn't knows much english to follow the explanation. Good luck!!
@gabrielmoko You could actually do it legal and purchase the lesson at metalmethod com. There's a side benefit of being honest. We'll be able to stay in business and continue to create incredible guitar lessons. Thanks for your support.
@renji6977 You actually have to purchase our DVDs to learn anything. Alert: we make a living teaching people to play guitar with our DVDs. You want free? You get what you pay for dude.
hi doug, i have a question, i found out that there are more than 5 positions in the minor scale through the neck, is it really necesary too learn all the rest of the positions besides the 5 positions you covered?
@FabianRL87 - I used to teach seven positions but that's too much like work. Two of the positions just have a couple of additional notes so they're redundant. The five patterns cover the entire fretboard. That's all you need. It's all I use.
the peavy vypyr modeling amp the 15w one is plenty loud Ive never had it above 0.5 lol and it has 12 clean models along with the same models clean its well worth the 100$
This is a way to learn guitar. I have been playing for almost a year now and i just finished lesson one. I HAVE WAY TOO MANY BAD HABITS. Thank you for teaching me the proper way to play guitar
does this video come with tabs for all the stuff you teach when you play it with a dvd player... or is it only displayed on a computer...i just ordered this metal method dvd collection yesterday and im real excited for it to come in so i can start
Sorry it's taken me so long to answer this. Hopefully you've received the lessons now and see that there is on-screen tab and printable tab on the DVD.
i've been playing guitar for about a year now and from what seen in your videos i think you can really help me breck for the blockade tht's infront of me soon as i'm paid i'm going order
so, Doug, i play a little bit of guitar today, but i left the classes because of time problems, so i was wondering, if i buy the complete course, you show there the basics? like the name of the strings and all that? because i think im forgeting a lot of theory :S
Yes, I teach all of the basics starting with how to tune your guitar. It doesn't get much more basic than that. Sign up for my newsletter at RockGuitar com. Next week I'm sending out detailed description of everything that is taught in all of the lessons. You should find it helpful. You can also join our forum and ask other students these questions.
Dude i bought his lessons back in 83 when it was on casstes and hand written booklets , i learned alot ,coz i was just starting out ,his lessons have come a long way ...
@Nesken69 Yeah, me too...maybe even '82 in my case...prob the first few hundred he sold i would imagine...remember the 'Levels" ? I think Level 6 was tops (Randy Rhoads style, etc)....ha...good times
i,ve just finished watching the 6dvd,s and picked out first the easy parts haha now i will try to translate the dvd,s for my son (10years)to our language (dutch)so for me it,s a double lesson. he doug keep on rocking,we will do the same haha greetings anno en roan (netherlands)
are you planning on signing any other players than MAB to your metal methods team? i really appreciate how systematic and really thought-trough your dvd concepts are, so id be really fond to see dvds with other guitarists (eklundh, howe, macalpine, god knows there are enough out there!) explaining their individual technical and musical styles.
Thanks. I have considered working with other guitarists and plan to in the future. There always seems to be something else that I'm working on that keeps me from moving in that direction.
If you have been working hard at guitar for 7 months you could be ready for Stage 4 but it would still be best to start at the beginning, Stage 1. Stage 1 is easy enough for someone that has never even touched a guitar before. It's best to start at the beginning and work your way through the course so you don't miss anything.
P.S. I took your old VHS tapes for these lessons all 6 levels now all the pausing on the tapes I did messed them up and they're all scrambled and dont work anymore hehe. I am definitely going to buy a whole new DVD set and pass it down/recommend it to anyone and everyone. Thanks alot man, really... You Rock!
Wow thanks Doug! The only thing I never really caught on too well was learning the sharps, flats, and just music notes on the guitar. I just played everything that was in tab. Do I really need to learn the music notes on the fretboard? I know how to read notes cause I played trumpet for 7 years but I just dont know how to convert notes to guitar. Also one more thing, I always had alot of difficult with my bending up/vibrato upwards with the strings. Any ideas or tips?
If you can make it through those five DVDs in four years you'll be lucky. They're difficult but extremely worth the effort. Good luck and keep me posted. If you're not a member of our forum please sign up. bb-metalmethod com
Hey Doug, I just wanna say thank you so much for all of your videos. It has taken me 4 years to get through them all (took a while but I did my best to make the time for it) But I did it, I've always wanted to just say thank you so much. Everyone always asks how I learned and I always tell them about your lessons and how great they are. Thank You so much, you have no idea...Thank you
I appreciate you sharing that here Dan. I love to hear about my student's progress with the course. I think it's great that you stuck with it for four years. Kinda like college! Everyone wants to learn quickly, but it's best to consistently practice the material over a period of time. Congratulations.
Your method was very helpful to me! maybe you could see my stage 4 lead attemp and tell me what you think about it for someone who has been playing for 7 months
That was really excellent for someone that's only been playing seven months. The one thing that I think you need to pay close attention to is tuning. It sounded like your guitar was a little out of tune before beginning the recording. There were also places where you didn't hit the note perfectly. The string was bent a little when the note was fretted causing it to sound sharp. All in all, excellent job for someone that's only been playing for such a short period of time.
I'm not allowed to post links here so go to our website: metalmethod. Find the products page and look up the description to Stage Six. It's a simple, practical explanation of music theory as it applies to rock guitar.
Hey Doug, Is the Carvin 100 watt stack worth the money. I was thinking of getting one but the price is pretty low for a stack. You know the saying of getting what you pay for. The stack I was looking at was not the Legacy
Carvin makes high quality, reasonably priced gear. Just because something is more expensive doesn't mean that it's more valuable. When you purchase a Carvin you're not paying sales commissions, store markup, etc. Still, you must listen to how the amp sounds. I'm sure Carvin has samples on their site. If you don't like their stuff you can return it for a refund.
i had my guitar in my hands whilst watching this, couldn't resist playing along to the stage three riff. i'd just like to thank you for these lessons, there a fantastic set. now, i know you use the podXT live, but what amplifiers do you use?
practice listening to the tension of the chord to the root of the scale. you will develop an ear for good rhythm to bad rhythm. practice circle of 5ths, 4ths, minor 3rd progressions.
Thanks. The first step to creating "non Hot Cross Buns" songs or solos is to copy music and make a few changes to give it your sound. Eventually you'll be able to create stuff without copying. For example, I didn't model this solo after anything. It sounds a little like Santana but nothing like the way I normally play solos. So, I have no idea exactly where it came from but copying other's music has taught me how to compose my own music.
Sure you could. Writing music is something that you learn how to do. Just begin by copying your favorite stuff then start writing similar music. It's really not difficult.
I'm not a complete beginner, I've been practicing 6 hours a day daily for a whole year on bass, but I'd like to learn guitar quickly, which stage should I start at?
The course is inexpensive, 6 DVDs for only $69.70. Get the full package and start at the beginning. Some of the stuff will be extremely simple but that's okay. If it's too easy.... play it faster. Chances are, by the time you reach Stage Four you'll be quite challenged. If you don't want to order all 6 DVDs start there.
The quality of your practice is more important than the quantity. Some people can practice correctly for a year and sound better than people that have been "messing around" for ten. If you're having problem with speed, work with a metronome and gradually increase the tempo.
i totally agree! im picking up your stage 6 dvd i found some interesting things that i dont have down fully, i think its awesome that these dvds are out they help out tons in all different ways, and you can refer back to the video's. Keep up the awesome work Doug, lookin forward to seeing some new stuff! and Hope All Is Well ! take it easy dude!
Yes, I do know Michael but I didn't know him when he was learning to play. I believe that he started playing when he was about your age, maybe a little younger.
Good luck with the course. Let me know how you do with it.
Thats great, since i orderd the whole package. I didnt think I would get something out of it in terms of composing, too. I', so looking forward to it. The day it arrives will be like christmas for me ;)
If you spend a little time working with the program each day you'll be amazed at the results you'll get in a short period of time. Be sure to record your playing before you start the program and on a regular basis as you progress. Without a record of your progress it's difficult to recognize it.
