Maybe I got a bad taste of sonic since one of the only games of his I've played is shadow the hedgehog, which was utter phail for me, I didn't understrand it, couldn't get past some levels, and it was just meh -_-, but then my boyfriend had a go at it, and would have probably beat the game had I not hidden it O.O

Maybe I'm just not a Sonic kind of person ^^;

I must admit, I was skeptical when I first heard about this, but this trailer put my worries to rest. Besides the base mechanic (planets, platforming, etc.), I can't see ANY recycled mechanics. In fact, my only worry is that Yoshi will only be available for a couple of levels, like in Sunshine, but I doubt that'll happen, considering all the new powers and abilities he seems to be getting. :D

There are stars in the video. Doesn't really matter, though. Stars are just an end of level marker. It's basically non-linear, you just choose which "levels" you want to beat and in what order.

The Platform example is Super Mario Bros., the RPG example is Super Mario RPG, and the sports example is Mario Tennis.

I believe your ass didn't get the REAL picture. I've seen this trailer many times and I noticed there's no sign of recycled materials in this trailer; it's almost 100% new and Miyamoto stated the game will have 90% of new materials and the rest will be reused or if remodeled. It's like Brawl; the gameplay and some modes remains unchanged and contains few new features. There's like more than 20% of the game being reused and I see no one complaining. BTW, this is an early reveal so relax yourself.
