One thing people have to take in consideration, is that Joseph Stalin was Georgian. In fact, he was originally studying to be a Georgian Orthodox priest. He had Leon Trotsky, who was Jewish, exiled and later killed in Mexico City. So saying that the Great Purges of 1936 to 1939 was the act of Jews, is just like saying it was the act of Georgians. What Stalin wanted was monolithic unity in case there was war with Germany. The Great Purges weakened the Soviet Union, that it had no strength.

Actually, Majority of Jews hated communism so they wanted Israel. Of course they took important role in Bolshevik revolution also, but it isn't special case because large number of people were for the revolution at that time. They didn't know what to come next. I myself am Slav, (Serb). We and Russians are like brothers. I know Russians better than you, and for no reason I would be thinking USA is paradise. But if USA is my enemy that doesn't mean I have to accept mindset of Communism (which claims to be enemy of USA). One thing people have to take in consideration, is that Joseph Stalin was Georgian. In fact, he was originally studying to be a Georgian Orthodox priest. He had Leon Trotsky, who was Jewish, exiled and later killed in Mexico City. So saying that the Great Purges of 1936 to 1939 was the act of Jews, is just like saying it was the act of Georgians. What Stalin wanted was monolithic unity in case there was war with Germany. The Great Purges weakened the Soviet Union, that it had no strength.

Well, I do not know much about the north american and western european educational system but I can assure you that in the former eastern block the soviet crimes are part of the history curriculum. I may agree that one can hear more about the nazi death camps than the soviet gulags, but I suppose that it will change. I guess the reason of the so called "bias" in the literature is that kommunism lasted longer so it was hard to get reliable infos about the crimes before the collapse of the USSR.

Many of those people were Cossack from Siberia, Orthodox monks and priests. They fought bravely, not for red Jugashvili but for Russia. Many of them received medals of honour. And when Nazis were defeated those brave men were returned to Gulags. That is how your comrade Stalin treats heroes who saved Russia.

That being said, Stalin was ruthless, murderous, and reactionary in his own right. I don't support what he did, but the actions of the Cheka/NKVD, especially during the Russian Civil War, were mostly necessary resolutions to class conflict

The NKVD murdered millions of Ukrainians in an artificial famine. Farmers couldn't eat from their own fields. Men, women, children, entire families wiped from existence. A part of my wife's family were sent to the gulags of Khazakstan. Only the mother returned many years later. Her health and sanity were gone and her family was dead. Stalin made Hitler look like an amatuer. The power of the State needs to be kept in check and held accountable to the people.
