Depends. Absinthe originates from Switzerland originally. My understanding is that the best stuff comes from there and France. Most of the stuff I drink is from one of these two places. I guess it comes down to preference.

It tastes like liquorice because you prolly mixed it with pernod or snapps, anything pungent to cover up its pungent flavor. I was kinda dissapointed with the effects, I thought it was gonna get me high or something. anything you have to douse with sugar and water is prolly not worth buying

The licorice flavor comes from the anise that it is made with. The problem with absinthe is there are a lot of knock-offs out there that are worthless. Try some by the company "Jade" before totally writing it off... FANTASTIC! Thank you for checking us out and commenting.

They supposedly made it legal again in the states...but have probably laid a number of strictures on its manufacture. Have you found a way of standardizing the thujone content? This stuff really puts the liver through the wringer but my, oh my is it wonderful! I like the opalescence in the prepared drink. I've used Pernod to flavor the brew...liquorice taste and everything. Be well!

I do enjoy licorice...I actually have a list of liquors to try...Whiskey and beer and vodka all proved quite repulsive. Whiskey is just barely tolerable with coke (cola), while beer tastes of lighter fluid and urine (never mind how I can make that comparison)

I've found wine to be pleasant though...Not sure of rum yet, but it's next on the list if I can ever get the opportunity.

No, we don't actually make our own. But, I do know my stuff when it comes to absinthe. We have connections in Geneva and ship it in.  We are currently sitting on approx 7-8 different types. My favorites are Jade's 1901 and Verte Suisse. You?

I definitly like all Jades, Nouvelle-Orléans has a place in my heart though, I don't know what it is, it's just great. Absinthe is hard to come by in Canada though. On my list to try next is the Opaline and Angélique from the Claude-Alain Bugnon distillery.

I have not tried the Nouvelle-Orléans yet... next order. We are starting to see bottles at the local spirits stores here in the States. They are the cheap versions, but supposedly we are not far out from getting some better types. I am putting together a website for Absinthe also... to help get the word out. Are you ordering yours online now?

You can actually get good absinthe from local US websites like DrinkupNY, I know that they have Nouvelle-Orléans, here in Canada we have to order through our provincial liquor boards.

I tried this stuff, I was curious. And I have to be you, I thought it was awful. But far be it me to deny anyone else...I thought it was so bad we ended just throwing the sugar cubes directly into it after a while. And I saw no fairies either. But it makes for good conversation.

Try it again when you get a chance... some brands are very strong and straight up nasty... but, then there are others that... WOW!

If you get the good stuff you will defintely notice the difference.

It's called the "Green Fairy" b/c of the green hue it takes on once mixed. That and from time to time you might see a "Green Fairy" after drinking too much... but, I don't know this from experience... :-)
