If you're having troubles with the vanishing point concept, try starting out using a ruler or straight edge to bring your lines all the way to the point, and then to make it look more realistically 3D, make sure when you make your cut off of the lines form your corner to the vanishing point, your lines are the same length, or as close as you can get them to being so.

the reason that A doesnt work is beause the bottoms of the letters are in different directions, and the thicknesses are different for each bar. sure, it might work sometimes, but you're doing a simple straight letter, so it kinda looks goofy. and adding those extra things is kinda goofy too.
