Ya I also hate it when people say bless you. Them blessing me without my consent seems like a violation of my person.... Some people might see it as like a gift. It's not a very good one though if it's forced upon someone who doesn't want it. If I feel the need to say anything I'd say gezundheit. Which just means "good health". It's like saying "I hope you don't get sick" and doesn't involve imposing any superstitious voodoo magic or whatever on somebody.

I am very uncomfortable sneezing around a people and I sneeze a lot when I'm alone. There are those who've known me for years and never heard me sneeze. The reason for that is that no one says "bless you" on the rare times I sneeze in public. That's bad luck for me. Yeah, I know it sounds weird, but it's true.

@aaannarose I used to think the way you do, until I went to college. Then I made up my mind to say "bless you," if only to be polite. I made it a habit -- and, you know what? Now I love to do it! I now think of it as a kind and gracious, caring thing to say. For me it's right up there with holding a door or taking a cell phone conversation outside -- a "mindful" habit. And it gets even worse when you have allergy and you sneeze like 20 times in a row. Is the other person supposed to say 20 time "bless you"? Can they wait after you finished sneezing and say it 20 times or must they say "bless you" after every consecutive sneeze ?

Here we say "for the luck" after someone sneezes. Sometimes I like to take a piss out of my mates and say something like "You're lucky it didn't rip your ugly mug apart :P"
