Love this tune, and DB does a decent cover here (not perfect, of course). My main gripe is there's waaaaayyy too much compression on the guitar, and the tone's pretty harsh for a tune like this. Part of what makes Rik Emmett's version such a fantastic classic is his control of the dynamics, which unfortunately is not captured at all here. Every note is the same volume and tone as the one before and after it. I do disagree with another comment that her age keeps her from being able to play blues.

Won't disagree with the obvious talent BUT... The blues can't be learned/copied. The blues came from true hardship and pain. When you get a bit older and life has broken your heart in a million pieces and tears have long dried up. Play that guitar girl. Let every note be a tear that your soul can't cry.... THAT, my dear, is the blues. Look back at this video and you'll see what I mean here.....

I concur 100% with poster Ifeelsorry. This is an amazing performance. Listening to this never fails to bring a tear to my eye. It was one of those magical moments where everything fell into place.

It was like this song was made for her. It leaves Emmett's interpretation in the dust, quite frankly.

I understand her Dad's excitement, but his yelling in the background detracted from the magic a bit.

Hope her Berklee interview was successful.

I'm not a musician but I listen and analyse music since over 20 years, together with friends, and we do have to come to the conclusion that this performance together with her Cool New Way interpretation belongs to the very best of music history. Of course the quality is not obvious here, you need good knowledge of subtle nuances to see what this is. The most of the other songs Desiree played, to be honest, do not reach this quality.

What impresses me time and again is how you let the guitar play you...and yet you never get so lost in the moment that you go over the edge and start playing pointless, self-impressive stuff. What you do makes sense and your vibrato's great, don't change a thing. Gah, I'd love to be able to stay in tune like you! That's something else I notice-no matter how intense you get, you're always in tune! Not only that, but your notes are clear and distinct...

work on your vibrato tone and technique. it all seems to be hiding behind distortion. It could be good to learn your pentatonic boxed too, instead of just one so that you dont have to move down an octave for a different sound. less stock licks too.

I would only suggest playing other stlyes of music as well as classic rock and blues. I love those genres myself as well as funk and jazz and others.
